Deepspace Encounters are more annoying then they're worth.

Just make it so they don't pull you in automatically... it's just annoying.

Here's what I tend to do:
I set a course pretty far away, then window out and basically go afk until I reach my destination. Then I'll often window back in and find myself in one of those stupid encounters.
The travel time is too boring to not go afk in. I refuse to watch where I'm going.

Also once, and this one was REALLY annoying, I had gotten a new BO. I stopped my ship. I decided to customize them then and there. There were no encounters near me. Well, apparently the customizing set e to full impulse somehow. So after customizing and almost finishing an amazing customization job (lol) I got sucked in one which closed the customization window!

DARN YOU!

Anyways, it's just not worth the hassle. Stop letting them suck me in. It's dumb.

Yeah it would be nice to have an option to take part in those or not.

I know several times I've been heading to deep space only to find a klingon ship or something chasing me...then presto...combat!

Zone in..wait for the screen to load...depart sector and try to stay away from those damn encounters.

note to self.....do not go afk in a combat zone....lol, I can just see our troops out in the field, hold on Sgt, I gotta sort my back pack........ tell the enemy to wait 5 mins......lol

Simple solutation....don't go afk in a 'COMBAT' zone, there are nice 'explor' zones where nothing will agro you....use them.....

    don't go AFK.

That's the only time it happens to me..... or if I fly RIGHT into one.

I have to agree with this. I know those enemy ships are supposed to "roam around" and look for trouble, but they're really annoying. I lost count on how many times I've been sucked into an encounter. The automatic join really needs to be disable, or at least make some "safe zones" or something of the sort.

They literally go towards ships that are still.

sadly its not the only time....often when a group member and I are discussing what/where/ how next one of us gets sucked into one of those. They are annoying as hell. At the very least, if you haven't accepted the zones mission to do them you should be exempt.

I could swear I answered to a similar thread today.

Anyhow, the advice I can give, if the annoying point is how those encounters can sneak up on you went you are otherwise engaged - aside from the "Sector Space is not safe" mention - is to try and fly very high in Sector Space.

Those critters in Sector Space don't seem to fly high and thier intercept trigger range is 1 light year... so higher will be reasonably more safe if you need to tweak inventory, skills, go for a quick toilet break or alt-tab out to take a peek at the forum.
