Best MMO on the market at the moment

LOTRO

Hands down this game rocks. Content is rich. Skills and combat are fine tuned. Great instances and skirmishes. I mean really what other game can you while questing just call up an instance and play then go back to questing. And yes the skirmishes can be played solo, small fellowship, large fellowship or raid. Hundreds of deeds and titles. Has the social side to with housing that could be improved but at least they try and hit every avenue. Legendary weapons that you level up and fine tune and customize to your fit. I mean this game has it all. An epic storyline that is above and beyond any other out there right now. When this game first launched it was a fail but now? There is literally 100's of hours playing time and still not finish all the different types of quests.

Point is in a year? LOTRO will be the 2nd best game out there once they fine tune this fine piece of MMO happiness STO. But in all seriousness this game has all the potential that every other game out there has when they launch lets just see how they do in the mean time im gonna go kick hobbits in the shire ;)

I would have loved to have seen what Turbine could have done with the Star Trek IP.

If I wanted to play a Hobbit, I daresay I might agree with you, but I don't, so whether it's any good or not is largely irrelevant to me.

LOTR is static, empty, and very boring.

Played LOTRO from launch through Lothlorien, started out as a great game that quickly devolved into one fo the most repetitive grind fests out there. The reputation system killed that game for me very quickly.

I'm sorry.... but I believe you typed LOTR in place of STO.... it's a common mistake but you should correct it

LotRO is a generally good, solid game.

Best or greatest are such overused and inarticulate descriptions. Forget these orgasmic stylistics.

You really should re-read the Original Post. Judging by your response, I don't think you quite understood that he was saying that STO has the potential to be the best new MMO to come along in quite some time.

    Cheers!

There is no MMO more of a WoW clone than LOTR. LOTR is one of the worst MMOs on the market. It's basically WoW with a LOTR skin which you don't need since Warcraft already steals from LOTR however it's MMO came first so LOTR is the only thief here. :)

LOTRO has devolved from what could have been a great game to nothing but repetive faction grind fests.

Mirkwood is just Lothlorien rehashed with the same faction grind and the same boring rewards.

I'm not say that ST:O is the "the best" because it isn't but then again either in LOTRO.

As such there isn't a MMO now I'd reard as the best. ST:O has potentcial and I'll watch to grow.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm happy STO is not another Tolkien rip-off, which EVERY MMO seems to be.
If you have to have orcs and elves, why not make a Shadowrun MMO and mix it up a bit.

right and think that LOTRO became like that from the crappy game was at the beginning and I'm proud to say that I am one of the founder members, who did pay lifetime subscription at the beginning basically placing a bet on that game, like I did on STO today. let us hope that in the future STO will reveal itself a worthy game like lotro. :)

Blizzard is in the business of stealing others IPs then altering them slightly so I don't want to know how they would butcher Star Trek despite how much polish the game would have.

Warcraft = Warhammer. Starcraft = Warhammer 40k. Diablo = Heroquest.

    SWG pre CU

Hands down! It had community, an economy, Huge worlds to explore. I remember town PvP wars where we literally had 200 or more people fighting each other.
It was short on story driven content thou. It was such a shame they ruined it :(

Best mmo currently? Vanguard SoH. hands down. It's just a pity it had such a terrible press during its initial life, that people refuse to acknowledge it now.

I would agree that LOTRO is the best MMORPG out there. They keep going back and improving old content which is something no other game does to the same extent. For the first month or three, it's thoroughly enjoyable. After that though, for me at least, the lack of any meaningful pvp becomes a problem as the only thing to do at endgame is grind out a few instances.

FFXI was my first and favorite MMORPG, but it's really old now, and I'm also not sure how content I would be waiting around for groups anymore after being spoiled by other MMORPGs if I were to start playing it today.

WoW is up there high on the list for me, despite what the naysayers say. I had a lot of fun playing it for months.

Turbine TRIBBLE the LOTR IP, evil Dwarves? wtf are the Dourhands doing with Goblins? thats only two things out of a list of many things Turbine did wrong, im too lazy to spend my precious time doing it. PJs LOTR is way better. Both Cryptic and Turbine would have twisted the IP in some way.

the only thing different or original i have seen in mmo's is Fallen Earth. i had hoped that i could say it was STO.

but no. in STO we go out and kill mob's. in a ship or in space.

i can do that in every other mmo on the market. so what is to keep me here paying a monthly fee.... and the additional fees for things.

I can't play heroic fantasy games, even the good ones : I'm not interested by the lore. I couldn't even watch the end of the 3rd LOTR movie (great movies !) because I was bored.

Actualy World of Warcraft still blows the doors off of any other MMO on the market. I have yet to play a game that is as engaging. DDO and EQ2 comes close.
