Overall Feedback

As a game dev, also trek fan, I doubt I can hold myself back from making comments.
Some company see badly dev taking advice online, but from the little I saw, Cryptic looks quite open.

Like every comment or critic, the following is from my point of view. Other people may have different, or internal decision could explain a choice or another. (Just to say, nothing personnal)

Of course, to be noted, I love that game. Those critic aren't because I don't like it, but because I want MOAR! :D

The light stuff :
1) Why the starfleet logo on the loading screen is reversed? :D (Ok, whatever)

2) Why I have Federation logo on my ship, but no starfleet logo? :p

3) I passed 2 hours building up my character and her uniform. My first kit, and bam... It hides that. Body armor? And it's all gone. So, I decided to not equip any kit or body armor. Fashion, I know. But an option to hide kit and body armor would be most welcome. But so far... I had no problem in ground combat even without those.

4) No ship armor item? Ship got shield, but no armor setting?

5) Why heads are so big? Am I missing something? I'm sure I didn't make my character with such a big head. Hell! Every character looks like they got inflated cranium. Yet, on the character selection screen and edition, it looks ok. Is it for people to view emotion better? Gimme an option to turn that off!

6) Planet size : Most planet got a shrink job? Why are they all so small? Some real size would be nice here. Since you're not really require to loop around them much...

7) Space... Emptyness : I admit, color are nice once in a while. Not every system must look like a Picasso. Space is generally dark. Not every place should look like a dense nebula. It means when you go in a real nebula, you don't notice it at all! I'm yet to find myself at some dark space spot with only a few distant stars. Same with asteroid belt... Damn! Shooo!

8) Space... Inner space : Building, station and ships corridor are so HUGE! What's up with that!? Where's the normal size door?

9) Ramming stuff : Asteroids... All over... Yet, no damage for ramming one like a poor drunk drive. :#

Medium stuff:
1) While I enjoy customization, and for the character, I got served. However, I find the ship customization a bit lacking. Can't shrink or enlarge part. Can't freely paint on it, or set reflection on parts. There's only some preset. Of course, I would have dream of a way to fully customize it. To draw or create the shape of the saucer, etc. While not doing all my dream or ship designer, I would like a bit more option.

2) LoS : While line of sight work fine in space, on ground it doesn't. I often find myself shooting in wall or floor and still hitting the target. Adding a really functionnal LoS system could greatly improve the ground combat, since taking cover would mean something.

3) Pathfinding : I often lose a member of my crew in a curve in the wall. Something's wrong with some of the pathfinding. Was the jumping around borgs in the tutorial wanted or a bug?

4) Useless Items : The ammount of useless item is impressive. I know many are to feel more Trekish... But I can get all the food type right at the start of the game. No progression? As for the ship/combat item, would have been interresting to have more option. The difference between Distruptor and Phaser aren't great. Would have been interresting to have sub-item to tweak and change item behavior. I feel I only get any improvement when I pass from MkX to MkX++.

5) Bag space : I got to cary all the anomalies type I find around. I got to cary ship parts, ground parts and so on. Maybe make a "ship cargo" for ship parts, a backpack for anomalies and food/batteries. When finding weapons, shield, kit, armor and so on, could be beam up to the ship directly. The really small items space is annoying, and not for the good reason. Yes for items management. No for over management.

6) Landmark : When entering a system, it's only 1 planet. No choice on what planet to visit. I think many people wanted to go see Saturn or Mars. Probe Uranus? Every place doesn't require missions... I would love to just visit stuff. Can't even get to the moon. Mission tells you to go to System X planet III, but I never get a choice... :(

7) More Landmark : Can't beam in Starfleet Headquarter? I bet many people would have like that.

8) Uniforms : I can understand why people would like to customize their own. But why every NPC has a different setup?! Is it Starfleet or a group of mercenaries? A little pass of uniformization (lol) of the NPC aspect would be welcome!

Hard stuff:
1) Animation : I have no idea what's going on there. Why everything look so light? When my crew shot at a target, it looks like a huge mess of cut animation overlapping. The jump... Well... nobody jump like that! And most of the emote are maybe functionnal on the fact that you can easily know what it means... Most of the time, but most are laughable. Why that klingon shack his head like that when he speak? Why my charcter looks like a rabbit on crack when sprinting?

2) Balancing : Too many stats, and too little information about what that stat does or not. I'm yet to find what deflector +skill change to anything at all. Changing my Phaser Mk1 for a Mk3 doesn't feel like I change anything at all. (15 dps -> 16 dps?!) Progression on item/skills curve isn't sharp enough. I don't feel I destroy tutorial ship really faster since I got to the third/forth zone. I don't feel I become really stronger... I feel like I could take endgame target with my Mk1... I don't see the need to improve anything if it's to gain 2-3 dps! Same with enemies... Or I can solo it no problem and it's obvious, or I got to have people around to destroy it. But I don't any solo enemy being hard with time. I can't only imagine needing more shield later... But so far, doesn't look like it's the case much.

3) AI : Why most enemies run to me like idiot to stand there doing nothing? Melee should rip my face appart for standing there, and should melee right away and run away! Why the AI run around like that? They don't stay in group, don't try to get cover, don't focus fire. Same apply to my team. Some Mass Effect feature and AI would make this awesome. Hell, I would dream of some targeting involve... But can always dream, no?

4) Penality : Failing must result in penality. Dying like an idiot because I rammed a borg cube alone MUST penalize me. The 20 seconds respawn is a joke. No penality in cash, no penality in skill, not even in time. (20 seconds is nothing). One way to deal with this would be to make the ship respawn at the nearest starbase. Penality in XP? I feel I try to be good only for myself. The game itself doesn't push me to be better. I don't care if my team mate's ship blow up, or even if mine blow up. They will be back in 20 secs. I think this is one of the major point which could ruin this game. At least, the 20 seconds should be massivly buff! 1-2 mins? Spawn without shield?

5) Fight! : Not everything has to resolve to blowing ships up and killing people. The missions that doesn't require any are too few! Yet so great. More thinking, less Pew Pew.

As of most MMO, it's always a work in progress. I can see lot of hope for one hell of an amazing game. So far, even with all the above, I enjoy it. I just hope Cryptic will manage to keep it insteresting in the months/years to come.

I really do enjoy the NPC history and the storyline.

You can hide your kits and body armor. After you equip them, right click on the icon. It will give you the option to hide them. You can also hide the body armor on your Boffs in the same way.

All the protection, none of the eyesore.

Since you seem to know a lot...

Any autorun key? or auto-shot key for ground combat?
