Do you remember how horrible Star Trek season one was compared to the later seasons? Do you remember how awesome season seven was? Take a look at DS9. The first season was nearly laughable yet it grew into imo one of the best series.

You have to look at what we got at launch as the "first season" of star trek online. It will only get better from here! We will get better exploration missions. We will possibly get real diplomacy missions. "Crafting" will be expaned upon (right now it's really just a vendor system). Cardassians, Romulans, Klingon PvE. That's all in the future waiting for us.

The future's so bright... I gotta wear shades. :)

    No. I don't.

Seriously though, the game has awesome potential.

But we have to pay 15 a month as opposed to just watching a few commercials. so your post might get trolled a bit for that.

TNG, DS9 and Voyager (in my opinion) suffered the classic "3 season rule" affliction. Basically they got into their strides by S3 and S1&2 were more or less setup and finding their feet. I'm not saying that the first seasons were bad, not at all, just not AS good as a general rule.

And we all know the DS9 "Hair Relocation" rule by now right?

The DS9 "Hair Relocation" Rule: The series really kicks of the second Sisko's hair relocates from his head to his chin.

Heck, this is true of practically any science fiction series. Stargate SG-1, Farscape, Babylon 5, all of their first seasons were fairly weak compared to what came afterwards.

Hehe yeah good point. TNG first year was God-awful. I couldn't believe how wussified the Federation had gotten. The Enterprise had a ship's counselor, and she had a seat on the bridge? The Enterprise had rugrats running around on it? They practically had to have a meeting in the captain's ready room to decide what to put on the galley menu...and enough with the saucer separation already.

DS9 was meh until season three. It was almost "Cheers" in space, minus the comedy. There are only so many interesting plots you can have on a space station (yes I thought B5 was boring until the Shadow War).

Anyway, I hope you're right about the future of STO. Hopefully Atari doesn't pull the plug on it before Cryptic gets a chance to improve it.

Oh yeah! It was just plain awful. It was almost like some kind of bed time story with a morality lesson at the end.

Really? I've just started Season 4 of B5 and I find the Shadow War annoying. B5 was at it;s best during the Narn-Centauri conflict, but I just really enjoyed the politics on the station, especially between Londo and G'Kar. With the shadows there is no politics, just fighting

Season one was a lot of formula stories and a couple 'new takes on classic trek'. Almost every show on television suffers through a weak first season, except the pure genius stuff like arrested development,or the shield.

I agree for the most part. Stargate Atlantis has to be the exception from the rule. Season 4 and 5 were the worst joke ever, compared to the first 3 and compared to any other scifi show I watched.

I'm a big TNG fan. As much as I love the series and the cast I don't think it got really good until Wesley Crusher leaves the ship. The series just go more serious and better post season 3.

    Are you kidding?

TNG Season 1.... DS9 Season 1 .... VOY Season 1, etc. were all incredible. They were all great.

I went through all the seasons... and I can tell you theres not 1 episode where it was awesome.

Sorry dude. But season 1 and 2 of TNG are PAINFUL to watch at times. I'll say that not every one of them was horrid. But I just can't handle the campy Wesley Crusher episodes.

The real moment that TNG took off and really grabbed the audience by the nethers was when Riker uttered three words:

    "Mr Worf...... fire." :D

Yeah, the first seasons of TNG, DS9 an Voyager were a bit painful. Season 1 of DS9 is the whole reason I never watched the show. I believe it was launched right after Picard was assimilated and the whole Wolf-359 thingy. So the first episode of DS9 was pretty cool, since you got to see a different perspective of Wolf-359. Then ... then they landed on station ... and never left. Wormhole would open, something would happen, everyone would have a WTF moment and life would go on. It became the soap opera for Star Trek. i never made it past the halfway mark of Season 1 cause it was so horrible.

I may have to go back and give DS9 a second look if it's that good tho ... I'll just skip season 1 thank you!! :)

What we got was a half finished game. Try your DS9 comparision if they didnt have a make-up crew or half a cast....or the season consisted of 4 shows. Kind of like the leveling in this game. You comparision doesn't work here. Fanboy it up elsewhere.
