Equipment drops are arguably one of the most fun aspects of a game.

Problem with this game is that it is far too limited in terms of the quality of each type of equipment in a single grade (x4 types for each piece; common up to very rare and they are all identical with minor variations) and on top of that it is way to easy to get it except for the very rare obviously. Getting all rare equipment is a very easy thing to do for everyone. Even worse is that once you have it it is nearly time to dump it for the next grade up. There is simply no incentive to get the best equipment for any grade until you get to Admiral. Getting a very rare drop in a grade that is less than Captain, or maybe Commander is a waste of luck. It makes playing from Ensign on up to Captain pretty much a silly grind that has very little challenge and worse even less a feeling of accomplishment.

The reason being is that it is way too easy to move up in rank.

I will admit that most people will likely not realise that if they don't play very often and certainly not till they make it to Commander level, but once they do they will realise how very simple it will be to make it to Admiral.

There are an enourmous number of us that started the day of head start that are already Admiral and an increasing number of people that have run out of content.

Cryptic should have massively increased the dffiiculty in obtaining higher ranks. It should have taken all of us at least 3 times the effort it now takes.

Making Admiral in two weeks is simply a recipe for losing a great many subscriptions of players who will likely mothball their accounts and who may, or may not come back if Cryptic delivers.

It's pretty clear that they're gonna have to ramp up the increased content, if they hope to retain customers. I'm gonna give it some time, and see what happens.

I feel they should have never even allowed anyone to achieve the rank of Admiral at all. That particular rank should have been reserved for Fleet Leaders exclusivesly and should have played over into having player versus player team clan type wars.

I have played my share of MMO's to include EVE and frankly I am starting to feel like they have created a baby game.

I will admit that I have enjoyed myself completely and still do have quite a bit more play left in Star Trek Online, but I am increasingly getting the feeling that by the end of the second month (3 at most and that is stretching it) I simply won't have any reason to continue. I will have explored everything. Made the top rank. Likely have aquired most of the top equiment.

Without player versus player factions waring over territorial issues, or serious and elusive toys to hunt for to improve your ships performence I will find myself asking why even bother. Nevermind the fact that most of us will all be Admirals in no time.

Can you imagine a real Star Fleet where most of its personel are all Admirals. Give me a break.

It is ridiculous having everyone be an Admiral.

I also think they went a little overboard designing the in game economy to ward of third party sellers of game currency.

Lets face it i I were a player that felt the need to either have someone power level my Captain, or worse buy in game currency I would really be an idiot because leveling and attaining wealth in game is jokingly easy.

It makes me laugh getting these e-mails from the fools trying to sell power leveling and game currency.

You have outlined one of the major themes of games. Once you have to the gear to make you kick TRIBBLE at the level you are in, you move to the next level and suck again. There have been very few games (and I am no just talking about MMOs) that very from this formula.

To respond to the second par tof your post: Most MMOs or games in general there is no possible way for the developers to produce the amount of content that the most fervent of players demand. WoW (frequently cited as "having their act together) is constantly being berated on their forums for not having enough content either every time a new patch or new content hits the game people have completed it that day and say "that's it?!!!! WTF" Now while I am still a Comander and have yet to see all there is to see in the game I am pretty sure with Cryptic releasing new content a couple days ago that might stem the whole "We need new content" complaints. But of course if you are admiral at this point I am sure that you have completed the new stuff in a day or two and are now unsatisfied by not having more to do.

Hehe. So much i am i reminded of SWG where everyone is a general. But at least that rank unlike STO is gained from pvp(mostly) rather than merely a default name for your level.

Whilst everyone maybe an Admiral it is better to think of everyone as merely Captains or Commanders. As an Admiral wouldn't be able to fly a starship AT ALL as it is a desk job.

I am Captain level 7 right now, but I will make Admiral today.

As I said in my post I have enjoyed my play time thouroughly and expect to continue enjoying things for a total of 2, or 3 months at the very most.

The reason I will probably give it 3 months is because I do intend to fully grow a Kilingon.

I said ONE OF. Not THE best part.

Don't tell me that a great many people don't start salivating and get anxious to run and pick up their yellow floating beacons after killing their aggro's hoping to see Green, Blue, or Purple because the vast majority of us do.

The way the market is fast becoming saturated with just about anything you could want it won't be long before the prices on equpment all drop to less than their face values with the possible exception of rares and very rares.

And thats how it should be; why put whites or greens on the marketplace? Those are available to anyone for free; as long as you turn in your badges of explorations or medals. Blues are usually rewarded from storyline missions; some people have better items from a previous mission or bought it on the exchange; so when they receive it they can actually put it back on the market.

It's for blue drops;and purple drops that the exchange is really interesting. Greens and below are all available on NPC's.

I have never been a fan of mmo's with "uber loot" anyway; I consider that in a mmo; the better items have to be crafted by the best artisan players. With STO's so called "crafting" it's not possible; but you are still able to get nice items as rewards from missions; or from your accumulated medals/badges. Loot should not be a motivation to play; interesting and balanced gameplay should be.

You are exactly right about the gear issue. I know in other MMO's I've played that if I got a rare item it generally helped me a great deal vs. a lower quality item and I was excited that I looted something rare. Levels go by so quickly in this game that I don't even look at rare items. Just give me the common items at highest mk. whatever for that level and it will suit me until I pass that level. The quality of the items means absolutely nothing in regards to being a help to leveling. On a side note, I've made a massive amount of energy credits off those that don't realize this yet by selling that stuff on the exchange. :D

One of the other items that I would like them to change at some point is for rare items to actually provide noticeable and tangible benefits. I hate to use WoW as an example but since the game is very gear driven I will. In WoW, if I loot a blue weapon for example, I generally notice a difference in my dps, and sometimes it is very noticeable. To this point in my leveling I don't notice any difference between a while or a blue item. Giving weapons for example all the same dps regardless of item quality really isn't a good idea imo.

I agree with you about the crafting aspect and wish it were different.

It would have been great for high level Tac, Eng, and Science Oicers to have their own area where they excell in crafting particular types of equipment.

Loot has always been and will always be part of the motivation for a great many people. Myself included.

It is like opening a miniature Christmas present, or doing a Lottery scratch off each and everytime you get a drop.

Many people love that sort of thing.

Another thing they could have done was make it so you have to complete all, or most of the missions at each given level in addition to aquiring skill points in order to get promoted.

Alternatively they could have drastically reduced the amount of skill points you get from doing the repeatable DEFEND SECTOR BLOCK misions making the skill points you get from regular missions far more enticing.

They screwed themselves over not doing it this way because many of us did not realise how easy it was to get to Admiral and how little there was to do afterwards making it very debatable for many people to consider going back and doing all the lower level missions which you get nothing worth doing it for at that point except for killing some time.

I am already a Captain and I am just now doing an EXPLORE Mission for beginners which will give me worthless badges for low grade equpment. The only reason I am doing it is to clear the mission off my Star Fleet missions list.
