i was kind of hoping that star trek online was a proper rpg game where you are looking out from the characters face like star trek elite force, you would have to goto a classroom at starfleet academy and learn and work your way up from cadet to captain. llike you do in the real star trek world. also when you are on your ship that you can walk around the ship and bridge etc like you can in elite force expansion pack and also watch the battles etc on the main view screen on the bridge like you can in the episodes.
i was hoping for star trek online to be like this because that is different and better. but no they had to do it just like all the other star trek games. running around is the same as elite force/expansion pack/elite force 2, and the battles are just the same as star trek legacy/dominion wars/tatical assault/encounters.
same old stuff really so i do not see the point and i will continue with elite force's etc and the elite force RPG mod instead. at least i don't have to pay anything too. 6 years to make star trek online just to be presented with the same old stuff just online. i am a extreme trekker so how sad and disappointed i am with sto and wished it was like i said in the first place
You missed the fact that this is an MMOrpg. And cryptic took 2 years, not 6 to develop this game.
Perhaps thats the problem, it certainly looks as tho this was done 'on-the-cheap'. and as for being an mmo, this requires a community of other players and i see no evidence of this, i may as well be playing a single player game for all the interaction ive had with other players.
for days i have asked questions in chat and have never once been answered. by anyone.

its bad enough that i cant get a dev to help me with my issues but when the players are not even willing to help one another this is just eveidence of an immature or casual player base. both of which are bad for an mmo.
but i could have put up with that. the deal breaker for me is the complete lack of a ship interior or crew involvement.
i feel utterly alone everytime i play this game. which wont happen beyond my 30 day period.

I kinda think this game was meant as an experiment. to see if people would pay ($and pay big) for an mmo that was developed "on the cheap" and fast as long as it has a huge IP behind it instead of the way other mmos do it. Id think that if this DOES become a success that the industry standard R&D time will drop and the general quality of mmos at launch (already sad) will drop even further once they realize people will pay for this.
excuse any typos, im typing in gloves - its cold an rainy here lol
The Undine approach to life is this, if you don't like the way something looks, hit it with a stick till it stops moving. When you walk into a room and find a whole bunch of things you don't like, hit one of them with a stick till it stops moving, disguise yourself as that thing, trick all the other things to hit each other with sticks till they stop moving and finally hit the last thing standing with a stick till it stop moving. Incidentally the Undine don't like the way anything else looks.
If the game was as the Op wanted it, i can tell you it would be dead now. It just would not be fun at all, in any way. Simulations need to stay in the realm of single player games such as Fallout did. They just dont work in MMO's.
They seem to have used the standard mmo model. which is very disappointing considering they had such excellent examples of non-traditional mmo's to look at far in advance.
They have used their casual-friendly model that was the basis for their previous games: City of Heroes and Champions Online; and I'm actually incredibly pleased that they did not force me to be yet-another-Ensign, but instead allow me to get to the meat at the Heart of the Star Trek franchise, which is, to be a Captain of my Crew and Ship(s). Had they forced me to be an Ensign for 20 levels, and then get my first Ship (sort of like WoW does it with Mounts), and then spend 20 more levels till a better ship comes along etc, I would've been disappointed with that model before I'd even try the game... OH Yes, did you know that the current game-model was actually pre-viewed in industry magazines way before the game even went into Open Beta? People who wanted to know what the game was going to be like, could've done the research back then.
Yea what the OP posted is a good concept but would be a different direction. They had to make a game with the engine technology they owned. Plain and simple. I have hope this will improve.

They could have done their game according to that concept using their current engines. They just chose to focus on making everyone a Captain and not having everyone be an Ensign that works on a ship for 20 levels before being able to be a Captain.
if im a captain, why do i have to do absolutely everything myself?
Because essentially, this is still an MMO and an MMO where everything is done for the player, by Pet NPC summoned entities is even less challenging than the current combat-model we have now.

What the hell do you need to ask?! Nothing in this game requires asking questions, everything you need to know is handed to you. If you're asking questions, they're probably stupid, and you're just being lazy.
Unless of course you're trying to stimulate theorycrafting style conversation, but alas, you probably just want to know where the CE is.
On the other hand, you are very correct that this game might as well be single player at the moment, because aside from the few fleet action we have, the only thing teams do is give us more stuff to shoot at.
I would imagine things will progress to require more teamwork and community, especially at end game. People level at different speeds, and even though you can team up to level with someone, it's best that this process be easily soloed.
Furthermore, bringing up CE again, I give Cryptic two thumbs up on this. When the masses of idiots who fly around space asking stupid questions and naming their ships some of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen can't just faceroll a raid, YOU'RE DOING IT RIGHT.

More fleet action a'la CE please.
Heh almost. I answer people asking if a certain quest is still broke *cough Salvaged Relations cough*, or where the CE is, since when I did it, quest log said planet TRIBBLE in system yyy or something.
But yeah, there are a bunch of lazy/stupid people that can't bother to read. Starting today, anyone asking "where's Sulu?" goes on /ignore.

lol... I wanna play Undine now
He also missed the fact the 1st person mmo's tend to be somewhat unpopular
Ask this all the other star trek Captins in history as well. These guys never sit still no matter how big their ship is.

Although, admittedly I do turn it on from time to time, just to stay optimistic and hope the universe has evolved. I'm always disappointed.
