Instead of flaming around like one would do, I wish to learn the reasons behind the cause of certain changes or how things are currently in the game. Since nobody knows what Cryptic's exec group is thinking of, this thread is of course just speculative stuff.
I wish trolling would stay out of it, but there is no cure for such cancer since Chuck Norris doesn't cry.
I'll try to keep it simple.
1) Space - Why are ships' angles capped to some 50 or 60°?
(Translation why the f are we forced to corkscrew up or downwards?!)
Is the game engine and the objects we control, namely the ship, limited? Or is this some stupid [maxangle=50°] variable in the coding that a dev is too lazy to change -- or is this simply too complicated to change °_o?
2) the "Nerf" on Deep Space Encounter repeatable quests
(DSE quests now have a cooldown)
So, was this caused because Cryptic thinks we're progressing too fast through the content (which is actually lacking in several areas)?
Tbfh, I am getting envious at the headstart-admirals, but totally angry at myself for being a headstarter who said to himself "Oh, don't rush - you will be a lamer to the world if you rush".
But that's me.
During the Beta and Headstart, there have been several of such "anti-progressional" nerfs.
Take Ground PvP for instance, it used to be 15kills-win; now its 40kills-to-win. I don't get why they added 25 on top, whereas the 30kills would have been the double.
I am starting to worry if there will be even more of these progression-stoppers.
Even now, I'm confused what to do.
Well, there is ship pvp which can be played indefinitely - that is a fun path - but I have this doomed feeling Cryptic is going to molest that too.
I'd do quests but I've always liked the DSE aspect of group lvling. It reminds me of what the PQs were from Warhammer Online, only that I have people to play with, for a change -- plus there are fun lasershows, spawncamping deathspams and so on. But now there is hardly any sense to do those.
Doubt you can "tank" lvl+10 ships in Cruiser/Science Ship and get fantastic Skill-EXP out of it... or not?
Mmmh, Cryptic... Mythic... sounds sooooo familiar when it comes to ner***e

.
edit: freakin typos.

Now I am level 44 Klingon, and for me even if the change had been in from the start it would not have affected me. I've grinded PvP only, always trying to fight not to suicide like some others did, and the DSE quests only started working for me at Cmdr 10 (the nebula quests) so I did basically no PvE for 25 levels (Klings start at 5).
I'm not afraid of it - in fact I love the pew and dying.
One thing we all need is a break or a way to progress otherwise - in short, pve.
But I'd at least want to progress around the same speed, rather than having to wait or be forced to try and solo some crazy romulan-zerg group just because other players aren't around in the DSE.
Cryptic did spoil the morale of the DSE fans.
(This is entirely my perspective. Do prove me wrong, if I am)
It's just that it is a bad move to take something away and act like the rest of the patch notes are like tossing bones
the change to the number of ground kills was neccesary but 40 is a bit off ... 25 would have been good, 30 allready hurt a little but 40 ... meh
as somebody has arugemented in another post it looks as if cryptic doesnt really have a plan where they want this game to go. it really seems that they were after some fast bucks through the box sales and big IP rather then developing a lasting World that is worthy of a Star Trek MMO.
i mean i never played CoH but in every 2nd thread around here you find somebody pointing out that STO is pretty CoH in Space with the same mechanics and whatnot.
all this is probably the result of a dev cycle that was way too short(2 years at least). its just not finished and the XP nerf and the bone they tossed with the borg missions are just ways of trying to conceal that.
anyway, my guess is that in 1, maybe 2 years time cryptic will sell off the game to maybe SOE or NCSoft and will move on to milk the next cow with NWM and probably the same scheme behind it(fast dev cycle and big ip to lure in a lot of box sales)
