You heard me, I honestly predict in a month or maybe less people will start mass quitting because of today's patch. The borg part, yeah! That's great and all, but limiting the deep space missions to once every 30 minutes...do you guys realise how much of a handicap this places on the poor people who are actually trying to level now?
You want to know how much XP I earned during the past 3 hours? Nearly 7 bubbles, not even enough XP to ding from Lieutenant Commander 1 to 2, simply because I can no longer repeat the deep space missions. Couple that now with diminishing returns on completing missions that are lower level than you, even if your just one level above...you're losing out on a lot of XP, even if the mission still takes you a considerable amount of time to complete.
I completed Kasse Sector patrol, the entire thing netted me a massive 31XP for handing in the quest, Completed Kuva'Magh for a 138XP, barely made a dent in the XP bar really. Couple that with +1 xp here and there for kills, essentially all XP as of today has been majorly nerfed. Sure, its kinder understandable that Cryptic doesn't want everyone at Admiral rank 2 weeks after launch, but nerfing XP this way is the wrong way to do it, and there are many, many reasons why.
First off, there simply is not enough missions per level so the player can level up, not without hitting up multiple deep space missions, but oh wait! Now the player can only hit up one per every 30 minutes, so essentially the devs are putting limits on our play time now, there isn't much else you can do. Sure, do an exploration mission for umm? 50 or so XP, maybe a little more if your lucky and that might take you 30 minutes or so. The point is, people will get massively bored and fast by limiting this. One of the reasons why people haven't complained so much so far is the action is fast paced enough during deep space missions.
1) Get 'X' secure sector mission
2) Destroy X wave until restart time appears
3) Change instance to look for something else with shorter time limit or already started
4) Repeat X amount of times until you level
Oh wait, did I mention? You can't do this anymore. So Cryptic, please tell me....what are you supposed to do when you run out of missions and you need to level up to get more missions? Deep Space missions every 30 minutes for an entire day just to gain one level now? Sure the game has launched and its natural you guys want to use the nerf hammer, but you guys have to be careful with it...doing some major nerfs so soon will spell disaster for the future of STo, I've seen it first hand with several other launches and subsequent mass player quits.
In closing, this doesn't really affect all the current RA5 players unless they have made alts. Everybody here should know, this is a disastrous mistake and serious over-sight on behalf of Cryptic, this needs to be fixed immediately. What happened to the 80 or so hours to reach the level cap? I guess that got thrown out of the window real fast today. Its possible this could be a bug and should only limit the Borg Deep Space missions instead of limiting ALL deep space missions, if not a bug...then even Q can't save us from this tragic error in judgement. :This isn't about Cluster missions (Exploration). This issue is about DSE (Deep Space Encounters)
Err, I don't know what you're talking about. I haven't noticed any change doing -1 and -2 missions. Kuva'Magh and Kassae sector patrol are Lt 7 missions, -4 to you if you're at LtCdr 1. Seems like a significant hit in XP is appropriate.
Only done 3 of each sector defence quests per 10 ranks, otherwise been exploring or doing episode quests and i fail to see where's the problem. I even had extra low level episode quests left when gained promotion into Captain. If anything i think leveling is way too fast still considering how new this game is.
Is the problem that other people were able to level faster, or that a currently player can not level fast.
I would guess grinding the area you mention is no different then grinding missions, except that you dont go up in level as fast. Is going up in level the issue, or is it that the area that is limited is the fun place you like playing in. If there was not a time limit but you got no xp would you play that area.
Is it about leveling? Is it about others that have already leveled? or is it just that by coincidence the funnest part of game for you is also the part that gives the quickest xp?
You could make valid points on lots of current high levels not having got there with the same amount of work as it would take a current player, is that the issue?
It may be that leveling is what you like, but that is an artificial reward system based on some scale of some speed you want it to be. If the reward is leveling, it is always better to level faster, but if the game just makes it easy it has no value once you get there.
I have just leveled with missions and first 20 levels have enough missions to always do some around your level.
didn't this latest patch actually shorten the wait time? we've had a waiting time since live, i could happily do one explore zone and complete another explore zone before it restarted. Now they've changed that half hour wait from after you hand in the mission to when you start it. if i get three combat missions in a row the half hour is up by the time i complete it and can restart it immediately.
it's simple as pie to level through exploration, i just hit captain today and i'm ten levels higher than all of my episode content, all through exploration.
that said i've read that there could be bugs with it, some seem to work this way and some may still work the old way.
Wait.. the OP is an Admiral (at least his sig says so) and he's complaining because he's not getting enough XP doing quests that are for Lt's and Lt Cmdr's? Ummmm... well I'll just leave it at that.
I have not played since the patch, but quite frankly this will not affect me.
I re-rolled the other day so I am only a level 8, but I want to enjoy the game, not just power-level to 50.
Assuming that this was done on purpose, I can see a couple of reasons:
First to help slow down the gold farmers after all that is how they get up to high levels quickly. Second, for some reason Cryptic seams to be afraid that even the slightest Death Penalty will ruin the game, so instead of a DP they do this to artificially slow leveling. Logical, but it does not add to the depth of the game like a meaningful DP might.
As for not enough missions, I disagree, especially at lower levels there are plenty of missions, sure they take longer than just repeating deep space over and over but the point of the game is to absorb the story along the way to 50, not to reach 50 in 3 days.
Yet another poster who thinks that he personally represents the entire player base.
I'm sorry pal. You leaving does not constitute a mass exodus, no matter how much you weigh. If you really are that massive - don't let your TRIBBLE hit the door on the way out
You guys are completely missing the point, by a mile.
Previously, You could get said Cluster/Secure mission and repeat it constantly. Now you cannot.
Read my words carefully, and think about it.
If you have completed all your current missions and need to level up. You have to go repeat Cluster/Secure missions like always, but now you can only complete >> 1 << every 30 minutes for a small amount of XP, meaning if you need a considerably amount of XP in order to level, it will take you a significant amount of time to reach the next level, the higher level you are....

No my friend, it is you that miss the point, your argument is self contradictory.
If you complete all missions available to you at your rank, you will have already leveled up.
I played up to RA5. I was RA2 before the content patch.. The patch brought me up to RA4 in the 3/4 EXP, and then I did a patrol and was complete.
For the most case, I hardly had to do any 'defend missions' until high Captain levels. I did have an issue at commander rank 3-5 but that wasn't that BIG of a deal. I only had to do one defend mission on a normal basis to reach the next level at that time. My method was normally:
1. Do main missions
2. Do patrol
3. Explore or Defend once
And normally I was to the next level ready to do missions again. For the most case you have tons of options for you. If you do a main mission, the patrol mission, one explore nebula misson, and one defend mission, you should be well past the required EXP for the next level. Always do the highest defend or explore missions.
I completed RA5 in 3 days 9 hours total. Sure call me a 'powerleveler' or whatever you wish, but I hardly played to grind to RA5, I enjoyed the mission content, thats why I played, and had alot of time on my hands as you can see. I would even still do more missions despite not leveling if they give it out, I just love the storylines!
But I'm honestly not sure what your doing improperly that gives you tons of issuses at the low levels, I had no issues at that time. If a all honestly you need help I can always assist if you feel you need help with a mission or some sort of grinding, not sure how much that would help but I can offer! For the most case I do know there coming out with a big content patch at day 45.
I loved the patch to be honest. It solved alot of bugs and gave a few awesome missions.

No I will not see your point at all. All I see is some QQing over your inability to level as fast as you want.

I've been a RA5 since last weekend, I have done all the missions I've done everything, including all the new content on my main character. Main missions do net you a decent amount of XP, but not enough to flat out level you up, same with patrols. In the early stages of the game, you could level up to a point by doing nothing but main missions and patrols, but without the cluster missions to back up your XP you will quickly run out of method to generate XP, that is where the cluster missions come into play.
If you cannot generate XP as even a steady pace, what are you going to do? I could run down every single mission and patrol XP reward and cross-check with the amount of XP needed per level to prove how many times you need to run these times of missions in order to level. Sure, LT and LTC the amount of XP needed to level, isn't so bad but once you hit higher levels, you'll notice the hurt without being able to run these missions constantly.
For people who play this game at a fast pace, not even just power levels. Its like an emergency brake being placed on them.
The change can either have a big effect, or virtually no affect on your leveling, it just depends on how you go about it.
Instead of doing all your missions in a row, then being left with nothing but DSE's and explorations like you have been doing, mix and match.
Here's the real trick to leveling quickly while not having to sit in DSE's all day;
Alternate
Run a DSE, then run a Cluster Explore, then run a Patrol Sector. You're DSE timer is now up again, plus you've gotten some badges form the Cluster explore that will net you a nice piece of gear to keep you equipment current.
While everyone was screaming exploit over DSE's the first few days of release, as I was trying to explain that no reaching Admiral in 4 or 5 days didn't mean that, I probably never turned in a DSE more often than every 30 minutes past mid Lt. Commander. Commander + it was very rare for me to do more than one an hour. Patrol's and Cluster Explores are just as effective (minus the rare case of literally catching a 6/8 DSE, which is not nearly as common as people on the forums seem to think) and yeild better (and way more predictable gear rewards)
I made Admiral Wednesday the 3rd, after level 20, my ratio of quests was probably 40% Cluster Explores, 30% Patrol sector's, 20% DSE's, 10% Episode quests (Mainly for a reward I wanted). Being able to run current tier matching weapons etc from Cluster Explores will make up for any slight speed loss leveling you run across not doing straight DSE's. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were to see a speed increase from going this way. A lot of the Sector patrols or Cluster Explores are just as fast as a single DSE per zone, and give roughly 1/3 the SP 3 DSE' give.
I'm RA 3 now and had little problems with the level process. Most of the time I had story or patrol missions to solve. But I always looked, that I only did the mission if they fit my level. If the missions where 1 or 2 levels above me, I just made 1 or 2 exploration missions or played a few rounds pvp.
You can combine that very well. That way you'll have pretty good equipment (exploration and pvp badge items as well as mission rewards).
XP is pretty balanced i think. Oh and just as an info. I haven't made a single deep space encounter mission with my character. I avoid them.
Oh there will be a mass exodus - but certainly not because of today's patch. It's just the normal ebb and flow of the MMO genre due to incomplete MMOs being pushed out the factory door when they haven't even learned how to walk.
Once the free month is over and people get over the "oh look I'm Picard lololol" factor, a large portion of the playerbase will go back to their old games with more content and better overall socializing features.
QQ cos im boring and i dont wanna do any other kind of mission and iwas exploiting the facct i could swich instances to find ones that are already under way
Try doing explorations missions the new pvp missions ect ect
or maybe even doing the DSE missions properly for eg in the 6mins between events grind some skill points by killing the spawns inside instead of trying to beat the intended system

Thank you for the once decent reply who has a clue. Like you mentioned, for a lot of players they might not see any change at all, maybe slightly. But for others, this is major change especially for hardcore players, like you said...we are forced to jump through hoops like, like a lamb being led to the proverbial slaughter as you will. What if I don't want to spend half the time, travelling around the galaxy hopping from Cluster to Exploration to Patrol to Mission to Cluster?
I think the problem is that people have wires crossed, some call the cluster missions the DSE's, others call the DSE's 'clusters', the main problem right now is with the DSE's being on timer now just like the exploration (clusters) mission. I guess time to re-iterate.
Cluster Missions = Exploration (Badges of Exploration) 30 minute timer
DSE = New patch added a timer (This is the issue)
Don't know about the others, but to me, it does seem Cryptic is punishing the playerbase.
Doubt there will be a mass exodus runaway train of players.
First off, this is not AoC, or any other "no name" but a truly and widely-popular franchise known as Star Trek :P.
But there WILL be some cancelling if changes like these to DSE or Level Progression hinder players. And each cancel is less money for Cryptic, even if its just a mere fifteen buckeroo$.

Yeah, this is my point exactly. The DSE changes is whats making level progression brutal now, especially if you have completed most of your missions/patrols and your 'cluster' is on a cool down. I hate the fact that now you can only do one 'DSE' every X amount of minutes, it seriously impacts the game.
Wasnt it like this before patch:
get mission, kill wave 1, jump instance, kill wave 2, jump instance, kill wave 3, jump instance, complete mission, get mission, kill wave 1...jump..kill...jump..kill...etc etc
How many DSE's were one level ? 6 ? 7 ? could not count them..got bored after doing this 2 times..then i moved on..
Yes, before the patch. Now its, get mission, kill wave 1, jump instance, kill wave 2, jump instance, kill wave 3, complete mission, wait X amount of time to get mission.
For people who have to complete the DSE encounters in order to level, its a direct impact of level progression.
You guys are completely missing the point, by a mile.
Previously, You could get said Cluster/Secure mission and repeat it constantly. Now you cannot.
You are completely wrong BY A MILE...
They SHORTENED the timer for the missions by making the 30 minute timer begin WHEN YOU PICK THE MISSION UP as opposed to WHEN YOU TURN IT IN.
There was always a timer on those missions. They actually made it so you can pick them up and by the time you are done you most likely can repeat them immediately unless you happen to get 3 very quick ones right in a row,
The fact that it's "Star Trek" has already grabbed the poor Life Timers. Those are the real fans. The rest are gamers looking for a good game. Atm this is not it - it might be at some point - but not now.
There is very little "Star Trek" here other than the setting and the ships. Federation is composed of a murdering band of sociopaths. Klingons look tame compared to the mindless killing feds go through every mission. No diplomacy, no espionage, no subtlety, no moral choices, no true exploration, no Prime Directive - just pew pew collect loot - pew some more. Its WoW in space.

get mission, kill wave 1, jump instance, kill wave 2, jump instance, kill wave 3, jump instance, complete mission, get mission, kill wave 1...jump..kill...jump..kill...etc etc
How many DSE's were one level ? 6 ? 7 ? could not count them..got bored after doing this 2 times..then i moved on..
Yes, before the patch. Now its, get mission, kill wave 1, jump instance, kill wave 2, jump instance, kill wave 3, complete mission, wait X amount of time to get mission.
For people who have to complete the DSE encounters in order to level, its a direct impact of level progression.
You are completely wrong BY A MILE...
They SHORTENED the timer for the missions by making the 30 minute timer begin WHEN YOU PICK THE MISSION UP as opposed to WHEN YOU TURN IT IN.
There was always a timer on those missions. They actually made it so you can pick them up and by the time you are done you most likely can repeat them immediately unless you happen to get 3 very quick ones right in a row,
There is very little "Star Trek" here other than the setting and the ships.
