How long will you be playing?

How long are you going to play STO?

Now that you guys have gotten a good grasp of the game, and most of you are probably admiral now.

The question is "how long do you plan to keep playing?"

1 month?

2 months?

I'll throw in my bit. At the rate of my leveling. I'd say probably 2 months. less than a month to reach level cap. a month to mess around with whatever end game content. gather equipments and boffs.

So far, leveling up the boffs is not hard at all. I've dropped so many level 9 skills and replaced them already.

This game is cool. But it's just missing a bit more. I love the space combat but I think I'll be bored of it after 2 months.

oh and Starcraft Beta is around the corner. LOL.

I am hoping for many years to come, am enjoying it a great deal and only other game im looking out for is Diablo 3, other then that i have enough in STO and COH to keep me happy :)

And finding time to play also means takes me longer to get to the levels and the like as of rl and things.

    :)

Well my goal is NOT to reach max level, I bought the game to PLAY it and have FUN. So I expect to be around for a long time, at least 6-12 months, see how the game evolves.

Im going to quit for a while and see where it goes from here. Im not paying another month just to see what the "45 day patch" brings. (why could it not be the 29 day patch ;) ) If Cryptic turns it around and fixes alot of the issues that plague the game I will come back and check it out. If not, no sour grapes, I will just check out the next game that looks interesting. Its really in Cryptics court now, game has potential, does Cryptic have what it takes to realize it?

I intend to no longer eat cake 47 days from now.
I intend to no longer have sex 59 days from now.
I intent to no longer drive 65 days from now.
I intend to no longer wear jeans 72 days from now.
I intend to start doing up my shirts bottom to top, in lieu of the all time favoutire top to bottom, in 76 days from now.
I intend to stop wearing matching footwear 81 days from now.

Unfortunately, due to my busy planning schedule of deciding when to stop doing things I am yet to programme in my intended time to stop playing STO. As soon as I get a chance, or better still, a ****ing good reason too, I will be sure to log straight on and let you know.

    I promise.

well I am a slow lvler, and still learning bits of it, so... oh forever! yes I don't want to growup, get married and have kids, those are RL crapola right there. The game is fun. but really hrmm... I'll play the game till I'm captain, then stick around and concentrate on rp and charactor development.

Can we ever have a light discussion round here without all the drama. I mean really "I dont know" would have been a cool answer.

    Same here.

I have two chars at the moment, one a Fed and one a Klingon(both LC). No rush.
I am saving my other slots for new races, proper races like the Romulans or Cadassians for example when or if they come.
If they don't come then i will roll alts with the Feds trying other classes/ship types.

This does not mean i will not get tired of the game, and when i do i will take a break and come back later.

I doubt there will be another ST game single or multiplayer that will have this amount of content or detail, there sure hasnt been one in the last 5 years. So i am here for the duration i am afraid :-)

PS: My Fed char has all three vessels, escort, science and cruiser and my Klingon has both the Raptor and Bird of Prey, I can happily play PvP all evening just changing ships and race very now and again, not doing any of quests missions, so i have along way to go lol!!

Until I get bored is the only answer I can give to a question like this. I'l probably will get bored at some point and leave, and then come back at some point. This has been my playstyle on almost every game I've ever played and I don't expect it to change. I just hope I won't get bored of STO anytime soon. ;)

Atm not planning on staying past the free month - if that long. The part of the game that interests me is not complete and shows no signs of being completed within what I consider an acceptable time frame - I'm talking about Klingons.

I do not want to be a "monster-play" faction just because in December they realized that in order to cash in with Atari they needed to cut out 50% of the game. I do not want to sell out and switch to Federation since this is a product I bought and I will play it the way I wish.

So bottom line is - the game in its current state offers no incentive for me to pay a subscription fee. I already feel that the box price was unjustified for the amount of enjoyment I got from this game vs the mindless grind the Klingon faction has to do.

How long will you be posting in these forums? One month? Two months? Can we get a firm date on that?

For my part, I've been playing since the beginning of open beta, and based on that, bought the life sub. I also have two life subs to LOTRO and three EVE accounts. I play MMOs whenever I want to, whenever it's fun, and at a pace I find enjoyable.

STO is my fifth MMO, and one thing they all have in common, without a single exception, is the phenomenon of certain players who spend inordinate numbers of hours per day blasting through the content, then whining and trolling the forums about how there's not enough content. I imagine they also tend to wolf their food down at dinnertime, then whine about not having any food left.

For those people, nothing will ever satisfy them. Add more content and they will blow though it just as fast, never bother to actually read the quests, enjoy other aspects of the game or do anything other than compulsively grind and feel utterly miserable doing so.

They will always infest any and every online game, sing the same old tune that's been sung since MMOs were invented and accomplish nothing meaningful by doing so, other than to give other players someone to laugh at as the "powergamers" stomp their feet, pout and make idle threats nobody ever takes seriously.

The Hard Truth: MMOs are not an appropriate substitute for a meaningful life or responsible childcare.

But getting back to the rather transparent topic, I'll be playing as long as and whenever I want to, and not a moment longer. ;)

MOST people are admiral? <ROTFLOL> Only a small percentage are adm. Heh. Most.

I plan on playing 2-5 months probably. That's about how long my interest in a game lasts. Although as I get older that time gets shorter. If the game had a better PvP system in place, where we fought over and defended strategic planets, resources, etc in a way that actually MATTERED to the game then I'd probably stay longer. Heck, I stayed 6 years in DAoC, almost all of that time was spent in the frontier scouting, defending, and leading realm/relic defense. But this isn't that type of game, so yeah. Maybe 5 months. But ask again in a couple of months; new content may change my mind.

I'll probably be playing for a long time. Current end-game would be more enjoyable though if I could keep maxing out skills then being bothered by the current skill cap and the severe limitations we have currently have, skill-wise. It also doesn't help that some of the skills are broken. None of that all is a show stopper for me though. I intend to play for a long time. ^_^

I guess I am looking for that game that just the cats meow. I played WoW for a year and grew tired of it. I'll try Cataclysm there to see what it brings.

I keep searching. Right now this game is fun. Will it be 3, 6, 12 months from now? I don't know. I hope so.

For now I am here and having fun. I'll try other MMO's as they come out. The next big IP is SW-TOR. Will certainly try that but it's release isn't until spring 2011 at the earliest. So here till then at least.

But then I'll be 60 soon and have been playing these type games since Adventure in the early 70's. At my age someone better get it right soon! :)

Maybe you're right. Maybe this time it will be different. Maybe this will be the exception to the rule. Maybe this will be the One True Thread where this topic, which has only been broached ad nauseam here, elsewhere and with predictable results everywhere, will turn out differently.

So please forgive my reflexive reaction to a question that really doesn't seem to make a lot of sense in the context of a genre where content is released over time and the future is impossible to predict with any reasonable degree of assurance.

And with that, I'll go back to playing the game.

As for this thread, let's see how it goes. :)

So you troll the thread with a rant, then want to see, despite your attempt to derail it, if it stays on course. To prove your point in your rant!

    Brilliant!

    For-friggin-ever

I never get tired of Trek schwag. I started watching TOS during it's initial run. I have every episode of every series that I subject my wife too constantly (even "The New Journies"). I have my 7 year old playing the game. I'm a sad sad sad pathetic trekkie, I go to the conventions, I have Klingon Empire and Starfleet Academy hockey jerseys. I did the Village Halloween Parade in NYC as Captain Kirk and had my wife dress up as a Orion Slave Girl. I still play the Star Trek Collectable Card Game. My late uncle played Captain K'Nera on TNG "The Heart of Glory" and has been my hero every since. I'm going to be the last guy to log off the server when they finally tell us they are shutting it down. Hopefully in at least 7 years (that's a standard ST spinoff life span)
