Where´s auto-grouping?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
as topic says: where has it gone?

The first levels were FULL of it - now even in pvp you dont group automatically.

Has it been turned off? If so: why?

I too am wondering where grouping has gone.
especially in the space encounters. you can look at the instances and there can be 10 with 1 player.
You need more than one to take down the bigger groups.

This ia an mmo where's the multilayer aspect?

i noticed this too....early levels you are autogrouped (started a new char yesterday) but in higher levels...it seems gone..even if i see another player just entering the system.

Well, lucky it wasn't me going crazy. As I noticed it too.

Not that people communicate anyway. But at least you shared the loot when auto grouped. And not having solo high level players obliterate everything and taking all the loot, like what's going on now.

I'm Lt Commander level 9 and since Lt Level 6 I've probably only been auto grouped about 3-4 times. I think something is broken, though last time I asked about this in here people said it was my fault for not forming teams and going in to missions with them....

Most players, myself included turned off auto grouping, as IMO, its a waste of time. I hate going into a mission and getting put with someone I have to babysit because they full impulse in then get lit up by Romulans who aren't mindless spawns of retardation that is Klingon enemies. So, off is suto grouping, along with most other players. Because inevitably, the, how do I put this, lower end of the scale will eventuall catch up, and I for one don't want to be lumped with them, no offence.

You cannot blame people for playing that way. The whole game promotes it even.

There are no penalties. No risks. Nothing. You can be blown up over and over and over again, without a single concequence.

So yeah. You really that suprised people start developing a Kamikaze playstyle, because Cryptic encourages you to do so?

So far, all missions I have done so far, I could do with 2 fingers in my nose and my other hand scratching my butt. (figure of speach)

Ever since I hit Lt Comm theres no more auto-grouping and no-one seems to want to join a team, the few instances I do are full of solo players. I do see Kamikaze style tactics but I tend to try and keep my ship running as long as poss even it means asking people for help or putting all power to shields and engines to fly away to recover my hull and shields.

For the sake of my sanity auto grouping was the first feature I turned off. :D

I can blame for playing that way, it takes longer. In the 15 seconds you wait to respawn, if I was solo, I could have been done already instead of being curtious and waiting for your lame TRIBBLE. So, off it went the moment I made a character in retail. I'd rather go solo, not share loot, and be in my own world then have Mr.NoSkillAtAll just die, die, die because it's too much effort to change from attack to shield power modes when he is dying.

On some missions I think ow, I should change weapons, exploit attack available, and I realize my hands are rolling a cigarette as I have been just watching the combat. LOL

Although to be fair, I have not tried missions above my level, they might be harder. Although I still think there should be different rewards for different ways to complete a mission.

I love the auto grouping feature and find it sad people turn it off. During Lt levels I never played ANY instance alone this way and I had only ONE bad experience with a random group. Since I became LC, I never had a group again on this char. Yes a significant portion of humans is inept about life in general, and there is always the chance that a few stupids will ruin a mission. But to be frank, if I wanted to avoid those, I'd play Mass Effect.

I am saying this, because the game is just too easy and people can die over and over again, without any concequence.

Now if they would implement a death penalty in form of a temporary debuff (like -10% shield strength and -10% hull and -10% damage output), wich lasts 5 minutes and stacks on top of eachother.
So you are forced to either sit out or go to a starbase to get it repaired (repair costs wouldn't even be nessessary).

Then you will see, that people will actually start to use their brain a little bit more and willing to pay attention to group mates and help eachother out and employ more tactics.

Its broken :( For most Sirius missions the auto grouping works fine, but soon as you hit Regulus and beyond, it simply stops working. I loved grouping with people, it makes it so much more fun....Solo? Who pays to play a Solo player game..

Death penalty is a good idea on paper, but currently its just not viable. The entire game would need to be redone in order for it to work. Imagine all the major whines from people being one-shotted when they join a DSE for instance? What about when the auto-grouping actually works and you join a group filled with AFKers? I think the penalty needs to come in the future, but not at the moment.

I highly doubt the whole STO community turned off this feature.

At LTC I found no one else when I did patrol instances, previously at LT it was very easy and you could get 5 people at any time.

It's quite odd, is there just not enough people doing the patrols? I don't really think thats the case becuase at some patrols you can see several people just sitting around, and I'm sure one or two would enter. In the new instances they added yesterday, even the regular missions have 'teams', which is quite fun!

I don't know, I think somethings bugged out or the missions don't support it properly.

It is bugged, as yesterday I did some fleet actions and people were screaming in chats for group invites.

You are not going to turn off auto group and then start screaming chats to be invited by anyone willing to.

I don't miss that feature because there is nothing to earn from it.

Everything gets harder exponentially with each extra member on your side so why bother autogrouping with someone who sometimes turn out to be a cripple from Vietnam with only one arm and only one finger on that arm?

When cryptic installs some kind of % experience bonus or item bonus to promote grouping, then I will consider it but for now, everything I do I do faster alone or with rl friends I can count on and speak to on skype.

Actually, the drops ARE better in groups - since enemies have hgher level for every group member. So, instead of getting a lots crappy items, you get less better items.

And, as a matter of fact, just check the system you are in. LOTS of ppl have auto grouping on, it simply does not work. Kinda sucks. Both my GM and bug tickets are like 5 days old, and ofc no1 even thought about reading them, not mentioning replying or working on it. Way to go...

It grouped me yesterday just fine on my alt. Until I remembered and turned it off.

I loved (hated) being in a fight, then it "adds" a group member and I'm suddenly blown up by the newly-spawned enemies. Or that ship that plows into the fight at Full Impulse, then "Jam Sensor"s the biggest ship so it turns from him to me. While I'm already trying to peel the rest of the TRIBBLE off his escort.

AFAIK it only works fine in sirius sector - and still, not for every mission. No autoteaming since then, and i hit commander 3, so something is wrong i guess?

First thing I did with my live characters was turn off auto grouping. I got sick of trying to do missions scaled to 5 people solo or maybe with one other person in OB. I'll gladly group for fleet actions or DSE's, but for normal missions, solo is king.

I'm guessing a big chunk of the population also has turned it off, which is why you're not getting autogrouped much.

Press O, it shows all the people in the instance along with info if they have autogrouping on. Then switch instances. That's what i did, and believe me, lots of ppl have it turned on. Still, it's not working.

Anyway, i don't play MMO to solo all the time, and having contact with ppl only in PvP and fleet chat.
Secondly, soloing is just too easy, at least up until hitting commander, since that's the point where i am. Not a single mission gave me any trouble, so i don't mind "babysitting" other players, at least it's more challenging.
