Ok, right after the patch there was this quest "Win a pvp engagement" - which motivated me to try out the queue.
Impression #1: Everywhere Fed-Players, VERY low amount of Klingon Players. (guess fed is more appealing to players)
Impression #2: In spite of #1 waiting time seemed to be short.
Then it started:
spawn - right into 5 Klingon Players + 20 Mines + ONE (!) Fed-Player just getting killed. (Score was 6:0 for Klingons)
Needless to say, I didnt do much except "high yield, fire... KAZOOM" dead I was.
In the next minutes I tried respawning - but as there seemed to be no other Fed around, I was shot from the skies every time.
So (questions:)
This is it? No safe spawning place where you could at least gather forces? Do we have to depend on our luck to get at least a chance to survive the first 3 seconds? I mean: this applies to Klingon players, too: If Feds have the luck to be there first, they win.
I really liked the pvp-mission with Borg, which unfortunately was SEVERELY bugged and therefore could not be completed. But this ... arena-like thing ... without giving you a chance whatsoever... this is not fun. To me it isnt, at least.
A lot of the klingon's have tiered up, which leaves the lower feds with few opponents. They're going to add FvF pvp at some point, I believe. That will more or less fix the issue, but will probably break the FvK pvp, as feds always think that klingons are overpowered and klingons always think that feds have too many balls, so feds will just queue up against feds and klingons against klingons.

The problem is not finding no opponents. The problem is: You spawn alone - 5 klingons are already there.
This could be the other way round of course, too.
The maps need adjustment. There needs to be a timer when the map starts - and the overview needs to reflect if a map has already started or not.

Like he already said, try the LARGE map. It says it's the large one in the title of the queue. You will spawn next to turrets and mines in a relatively safe area. As for not having other feds in there the scenario shouldn't start unless there are a certain amount from each faction in the queue. If you didn't see friends it means you were too far away to see them or they left. Either way by doing the large map with objectives it solves your problems. Though T1 kinda sucks for feds since we're still stuck in Light Cruisers at the time and the klingons can pretty much group up, call a target and all decloak at once to light up that target. Apparently it gets better in T2 which I should get to tonight.
From what I have experienced the best type of pvp match to play on the federation side is salvage operations we tend to win allot of the time and you re-spawn at your base which is mostly safe the Klingon's cloak ambush tactic is too well setup for arena matches for feds to win without being well organized oh and not to mention the T5 Klingon carriers make arena matches pretty difficult at admiral.
PvP is going to be pretty brutal for a while. I just hope that the Cryptic devs don't follow the Mythic pattern and allow grossly overpowered, one side dominates pvp for months and months at a time before fixing it. This is what killed Warhammer so fast. I strongly advise the Crytpic pvp devs to learn from that costly blunder on Mythic's part. You simply MUST endeavor to balance pvp at all times. It will cost you millions in sub fees if you refuse to acknowledge overpowered pvp mechanics and adjust them accordingly.

I think those small maps are the problem with safe respawn.
Also give ground PVP a try. Its not for everyone, but I enjoy it.
