Retrieving list of maps... forever?

I've been pretty lucky in STO so far, having been around since the early release and only seeing the lighter side of a lot of glitches (my roommate still has the "line in the sand" mission from tutorial stuck in his mission list and can't delete it, even with GM help!), however, I think karma might have finally caught up with me.

Is anyone else completely stuck at the "retrieving list of maps" part of logging in, right after selecting character? Is it because of the flood of new European players, or something else? Weird thing is, I don't see many posts about this problem quite yet.

So, anyone else waiting for the server to retrieve a list of maps?

Been having this problem when ever I try logging in of an evening 6pm GMT onwards, have been testing a few things, just before work around 6.30am GMT i'll log with no problems at all, left the computer to d/l the patch last night as was taking a long time. Got up around 2am GMT to see if it had finished, which it had then logged on to the game for 5 mins and again no problems with lag, rubberbanding or being stuck on the screen of "retreiving list of maps".

Conclusion for me is that, as soon as people start logging on of an evening, the servers aren't able to cope with everyone, so until more servers are added to increase the palyer capacity, we will continue to have this problem at peak time.

But guessing Cryptic already know this and are working hard to rectify

Located in the USA and have not received this issue, I've even exited game and gotten back in several times when people have reported this and still haven't encountered it. If you have the interest you might want to do a packet capture of the traffic and see what is happening between your client and their server(s) during this.
