I wanted this game to be awesome.
I did not expect anything ground breaking.
I did expect it to be completed to a level of playability though.
Tried to get my friends to play.
Friend 1 logged in to a 700 person queue and after waiting 20 minutes called and said
"sorry man, I'm out, gonna go play Dragon Age, i just don't have time for this stuff."
I don't blame him.
It was 3 pm on a Thursday, hardly prime time.
Lesson 1 Cryptic- Have capacity ready for players, not on back-order.
Friend 2 logged in.
He gave it the honest college try, got to level 11.
Then called me to explain that he just does not have the patience required for inventory management.
He's right too, often you have to "click and hold" 3-4 times before you can "grab" an icon to move it.
Anytime the skill/status window is open the game lags badly, like playing through butter.
Lesson 2- clean up your code
My experience has been pretty rough.
Wheres the documentation?
Why do I have 40+ goldspammers in my mailbox?
Why does reporting them as spam NOT delete them? I have to do this? WHY?
Why did my collectors edition say it was in a "heavy duty box with a brushed aluminum finish" and then arrive in a CARDBOARD box with brushed aluminum PAINT?
Wheres my 40 page art book? I got a book but it was also the cd case AND the "manual" for the game.
(I'm going to really jab you here, I paid almost as much for my collectors edition WOW and got a REAL art book, not to mention a decent box)
I guess I'm lucky my federation pin was real metal.....
Why is acetone field 3 bugged still?
What do you plan to do about it?
You going to replace my buddies BORG that was bugged with it?
he's real ****ed

In short, I'll be using my 30 days, we'll see where we are then.
I'm not paying another dime until the game is in a playable state however.
That means no more rubber banding motion sickness.
No more showstopping bugs (like acetone field 3)
Your in game user interface won't lag.
Skills and ability's will function as intended.
PVP will be at least somewhat balanced
A couple suggestions-
Report mail also needs to delete it.
Better tool tips. (all around they suck, from the font to the way info is presented)
Transwarp to other stations- like ds9.
I'm a toon addict- get the buyable character slots in the store.
Admirals at sb24 is stupid. Scale it to level and lock it per tier.

Your personal opinion has been duly noted.
You are awarded one (1) cookie for expressing your special snowflake self.
We have had enough of these on the forums. Why don't you go and contact Cryptic about your boo-hoo stories. All of us are having fun, and we aren't going to stop because ANOTHER person doesn't like it.
Who asked you to stop?
Even I said i was using my 30 days.
It IS fun, just not Complete.
Lets face it. It's laggy and some aspects are flat out broken.
Currently I feel like I bought a three legged donkey.
I think its the rubberbanding and ui lag that bugs me the most.
Blasting things with dual heavy polaron cannons is fun.
Dragging them from my inventory to my bank ten times because i cant seem to grab them is just maddening.
It is. Your loss.
That's not the game chief. It's your computer/connection. I've been enjoying silky smooth gameplay for days.
Step one: Denial.
Umm... in the world I live in "finish" means paint. Like a car having a high gloss finish, means is has a shiny paint job.
Can I haz ur stuffs
I don't have a lifetime sub and I think most of the complaints are insane. It's a fun game. Try enjoying it.
I think maybe you love the game and are in denial about it, that would explain hanging out on the forums.
So you have no problems with the game?
Perfect is it?
1) I'm not a lifetime subscriber
2) I agree with them completely. It is an enjoyable game.
No performance problems and I've enjoyed my time so far.
Are my only choices perfection or hating it? I'd rather not be such a drama queen about it personally.
3 down, how many more to go.
I'm not saying perfect or hating it and either is the OP. You are taking that perspective.
You said the game was awesome when he said he had a few problems with it. Hence, you are implying you have no problems with it.
If you do have problems with it, then why give a guy a hard time for pointing out a few flaws that need to be fixed?
Fanboi much?
This is what I did a few weeks ago, but now its not really an issue.
Rubber banding in sector space, meh I can live with it, all I do is set a caurse to system x and go make a cuppa tea
The work around for the Queing system is easy, just cancel the attempt and do it again <You may have to do it 3-4 times but it will let you in instantly. I belive this Que system is purly to stop the login sever getting swamped not a que becuase the game server cannot handle it.
The rest of the things are just bugs and are getting hammerd out, heck patches are flying out every other day so just give it some time, and evan WoW STILL has bugs <be it very minor ones> left over from 6 years ago lol.
Whitewolf
Yes, I'm clearly the only one complaining about rubberbanding.
No champ, it's the game or it's cryptics connection.
It's not the only game i play online, nor the only mmo.
it's the only one with problems like this, and everyone I know in town on sto (5 people) all have the ui lag and the rubberbanding effect. Especially at peak times.
I do agree it's awesome, provided it works right.
During beta I had the silky smooth game play you speak of, it can be done.
Now that i'm supposed to pay for it-
I want that back.
Woa. Giving him problems? Fanboi? He said he wanted the game to be awesome, I said I though it was. His problems are obviously on his end. Somehow you twist this into something completely different. You have issues.
You've been trolled into oblivion and back apparently.
Please explain how so many are playing without issue. I rarely lag. I rarely rubberband. It's as stable as WoW is for me. I've actually been surprised at how smooth everything has been.
Actually I think this is what it is. These quitting-rants are coming from people who realize now that this game is going to rock for years to come and are ****ed that they didn't get the cheap lifetime membership when they had the chance and are now trying to find reasons to hate the game. Problem is, if they were really going to leave, then why are they still here in the forums trolling? Quitting the game is simple. Just don't log on and don't come into the forums, then they will prove their point to Cryptic. Cryptic isn't going to worry about some rant that sounds like a 3 year old who missed naptime, they are going to worry if they see their user numbers plummet. The 'quitters' keep coming back over and over pointing out every detail that they find not to their standards and saying that that is the reason they are quitting, but instead they are proving that they are in the game running around looking for flaws.
I haven't had any rubberbanding in quite a while, I've been mostly logged in about 8 or so hours a day while I'm working. The game seems quite stable. And uhh...it just came out, so why don't you give them time to get some of the TRIBBLE worked out, lol. I am a lifetime subscriber and while yes there are things in the game that need work, Cryptic will work them out. I'm happy with the choice I made to get the lifetime sub.
That part will resolve itself both by the always the mmo population decrease post launch and Cryptic stating everywhere including on the launcher of more servers on the way.
I have just started playing this game and have found it quite enjoyable. Coming from another MMO (or supposed MMO), this is far superior to that in numerous ways.
As far as your "rubberbanding" and UI lag ... not getting that here on my end; must be you. And just to put it into perspective for you - I play on a laptop that just falls short of the BARE MINIMUM requirements to even play this game. Every time I load up the game, I get a warning from the software telling me my laptop is TRIBBLE and won't run the software ... in not so many words. However ... she runs like a gem. I can't run EVERY graphic setting at max; although, I can run the graphics at a Medium-High setting and still get smooth, silky, sexeh graphics and gameplay. No stutters, stops, rubberbands or anything else in fleet battles - just endless AI deaths to mah lazors.
Stop whining. I don't blame Cryptic, since I didn't really expect much buying the software. I only hoped that it would be better than what I was playing before - and it is. You hyped it up way too much for yourself and the dev's couldn't deliver that ... hell, no one can. So basically ... you let yourself down here. GG
We need a multi-tabbed inventory list that lets us separate weapons, armor, ship installations, ship weapons, ship consoles, food and other items, utilities (hypos, batteries), etc.
I am being forced to spend way too much time trying to figure out what I want to keep so I can keep doing routine trips to a vendor to sell off excess items, otherwise my personal inventory becomes completely full. My bank is already full.
We have starships with cargo holds, we have starships in drydock that aren't even staffed by crew (one would think). Inventory space has no business being restricted.
But they'll get to inventory management eventually. It's a PITA now, but the game is most certainly ready and this starship has sailed, my friend. It's a little late to say "it's not ready".

Just as an aside, I knew 3 of my friends were already playing the game without any prodding from me. A fourth friend has been watching a few of the others and now he wants to get into it himself, and his wife even thought it looked cool and was interested.
And now through one of these friends, I've learned another friend is also playing the game, talked with him tonight, and he's a lifetime sub too. We all love it.
Your friend mileage may vary!
No you can't Richard Cranium.
Because I don't like you.
Also Kuber and Rotary are both 100% correct.
I want to like the game too.
I just feel like it was tooo soon.
Pretty smooth launch sure.
Some of the bugs are REALLY bad.
I'm sorry that me putting away my wallet until the game is finished is too much drama for some of you...uh...more passionate folks;)
I like it, its the year 2010, out with "Fanboi" in with "Passionate folks".
ive got to agree with this guy here, its been smooth sailing since the last oatch really no lag no crashes insta response even on my inventory....
I am playing the game and having fun so it certainly isn't unplayable. There are things that anoy me, the huge lag in inventory management at biusy times being the worst, but they do not stop me from having fun. The more anoying problems do need to get fixed soon, and I expect they will be. If the more anoying probkems are still here in a month or two I will join the complainers, but not yet.
My advice to anyone with a low tolerance for anoyance and bugs is quite simple. Never buy a new MMORPG in the first month after release.
The connection issues aren't effecting everyone, or even most people. Tell your friends to drop the resolution, or go to the tech forum. People have some answers to those issues.
Gold spammers are like cockroaches; impossible to get rid of. It WOULD be nice if ignorring them also deleted their spam but c'mon, it's not all THAT hard to click the delete button, is it?
Good point about the inv. issue. It gets annoying trying to move stuff around. But at least we have a replicator to sell stuff from.
Next time you log in, I beleive you'll see a button near the top of the log in window that says "manual'. Pretty sure it's there. Documentation exists.
Were you promised a 40 page artbook?
Sorry for answering in no particular order, it's late. Overall, the game IS finished in that it is in a releasable form. It needs more content and they're adding it, as well as fixing bugs. Ultimately though, MMOs aren't ever truly finished until they close down.
- the bots from the away team still behave like @-%£$.
- Inventory management is way too time consuming
- skill tab is not very helpful if you dont have a clue what to do since some of the tooltips are not very precise.
- some quest descriptions lack vital information. I know it is Star Trek and you have to boldly go where blablabla but we are also in the future with a lot of technologie at our hands. At least they could say in which block the systems are located. Man nowadays you google ur location and you get a fine description on how to get there, so you could expect the same here. Mister Chekov knew the whole known Galaxy by heart for crying out loud.
- the exchange is not even worth mentioning since it lacks all the basic management tools.
- Officer Training: There could be aswel some kind of Filter to make the search a tad less time consuming.
- xp gaining is way too easy.
- there is no help whatsoever coming from the "manual" and in my view a manual is supposed to do just that.
- in crafting it would be nice to have some kind of progress report. I mean come on we are in the future and we are talking about Memory Alpha and not in the Stone Age..
- the quest rewards should be accesible even after you accepted it. Maybe there is a way but i havent found it yet..
- Naming the Ships should be restricted. It is kind of silly to have 5 USS Tribbles flying around.
- Deep Space Encounters. It is kind of lame when you jump in an encounter and you are surrounded by 7-8 ships blasting you away in 2 seconds. Some kind of gathering Area would be nice..
Since it is quite timeconsuming to do basic things here i start to wonder if that wasnt done on purpose to give the Devs time to add some content..
For the Rest, the game is quite pleasant with awesome moments. The Episodes are a great Idea but only if you read every bit of Text.
