I've played both and from my point of view this is the superior game all around. This is probably because I way more identify with Star Trek than I do Champions (which is a tucked away type of title).
Don't get me wrong, I dig superheros and liked CoH. I just believe from a familarity standpoint I identify with this game more than I have with any previous Cryptic titles. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the previous Cryptic titles but got no connection from them. This game I do have a connection with and I feel lucky I bought the lifetime deal.
Has Cryptic messed up on a couple of things? Yes, but so have other companies that I used for MMORPGness.
AC2 gone, sad about that one
Auto Assault, fun but not enough stuff
Horizons, man talk about messing it up with billing
Shadowbane, I actually still wish this one was around, great concept (I Kill You!!!)
Warhammer, I just didn't gel with that game, seemed to be missing something.
Conan, seemed to all over the place for me to really get into.
SWG, well that was really a fubar on the developers part, I liked being an entertainer (non-combat for once)
WoW, there is only so long you can trot out the same content wraped in a different package.
All of those game have things that STO does not have at the moment but "the game is still young my friends". I take my glass as half full (not half empty) and I would like to believe with an IP as big as Star Trek that Cryptic will do what they can when they can to give us a great title.
I did expect a smoother launch based on CoH and the lessons learned from Champions but maybe Cryptic totally underestimated the popularity of the Star Trek franchise, many others have in the past, cough , cough, CBS lol.
All in all I hope this game will grow into more than it is at the present. I believe that Cryptic will make it happen.
The game has started out ok I guess, but wait until you hit level 45, you can't respec, you can faceroll over anything in the game and there's ZERO endgame content- after only 36 hours of gameplay.
It's a good combat engine, but not much else so far.

The only way you could've gotten to Admiral in 36 hours is if you grinded and skipped most of the game's content. Blame yourself for that, not Cryptic.
I'd like to see your /played, mine is at 3 days 20 hours for Commander 8.
Honestly said, I'm impressed by the content they're already lobbing in. If this keeps up, the game will be up to specs in no time. I'm rather surprised that there's so little in the way of bugged missions also, only had an issue with about 3 of them on my way lvling to Rear Admiral 5. Well Cryptic, just fix the servers up a bit, and keep at it as you are now and give us the best Sci-Fi MMO since Star Wars Galaxies (or you preferred Sci-Fi MMO here)!

So, you are totally dismissing the stories that go along with the missions? I play at a fairly good clip comparied to most and I've only reaced Capt. 4. What I can say is that the stories that come with the game do get better and more involved, (heck even the patrol missions help with the stories at later levels). I guess if all you are about is leveling then this game does fly right by you.
So did STO during beta.. but people complained (rightfully in some places), but when stuff was difficult patrol missions took forever. I'm not sure exactly when stuff got so weak, because I played PVP only in beta once that was open. It is possible for them to have challenging combat (borg at end of beta for example), and hopefully that shows up in the raids.

I have played from the headstart and i am sonn Ltc 5, so at this speed it will take me some time to get to lvl45.
By that time i hope they have implemented respec of skills and more content for max lvl.
If not then i guess i will quit, but i think they will come up with these things by then. I have some faith in Cryptic.

Don't exploit exp glitches next time on a brand new mmo. DUH.

So you're the reason why they put a 30 minute lock out timer on the deep space encounters.

That's a gem right there.
I don't know if you could set the bar any lower than the other Cryptic MMO. At least Champions had some unique properties. Here's to Cryptic (takes a sip). Let's all hope they wake up and start altering the game soon to be something better than it currently is.

I'm sorry but I am just not believing this. I just looked: I've been playing 89 hours on my main character, haven't done nearly any exploration missions and very few sensor contact encounters, and haven't run any missions from Naomi Wildman at K-7, and I'm just now to Lt. Commander 10. I don't know what you all did to level up so fast, but I sure don't believe it was 'play the game normally'.
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I just don't believe it.

DDO is better than CO, and it is F2P
I think DDO is good by any standards, they just got screwed by Atari.

Some awesome moves and punches also

If cryptic spent HALF the time working on STO on CO...CO would be twice
the game STO is.....
because, cryptic uses a super hero geared game engine...the game engine is (should be)
perfect for that game.
in the end, they should have MADE a new engine for STO or licenced someone elses
that was better suited for it.

although to be fair a good chunk of that time has to be me afk, still though...
