YEs I am new... but, this seems just like any third person shooter with a story, like Elite Force- How do you interact with real people on this (besides chatting)
What am I missing?

Playing the game how you want, get into or build a fleet that teams up if thats what you want, or do you need to be forced to do things you seem to find fault in?

Missions automatically adjust to teams. It's set to keep a balance, so if you go in alone into one space battle you might just see a few escort ships, but if you are in a team and you enter the same battle you may find a cruider or battleship waiting for you instead.

Then there are also fleet actions, and some random instances which dont tell you they are instances until you join them.

No, its just I want to interact but it isn't clear how to. There are no instructions on how to join fleets or do missions together... When you ask people they are *******s because I "should" know.

Where is there clear instructions on what and how you do things?

Right, I did a mission and it keeps saying "Joing an Original Instance team." But i kicked off the map after 45 seconds?

How do you know what you know about this? Thanks

he does make a valid point.. with all the damn instancing its impossible to group unless u keep it open and then once the mission is gone 99% of the time everyone leaves not saying en entire word in the mission. This game does feel like a giant chat room with avatars and ships we go off on to fight something that has no effect on anything anywhere and come back to chat. one reason WOW and SWG are so loved by people on this forum... ALOT more interaction. ALOT of things you do effect others. You can be minning for gold in WOW or setting up harvies in swg and still have an effect on the economy and what goes on.. this game lacks that I really wish they would have thought about that part

    He didn't mention any MMOs.

As to the OP yeah I do agree that there are no interactions unless you get into a Fleet. Try looking in the Fleet section of the forum if that is something you are interested in.

just click the little down arrow on your minimap and join a pvp queue. They are nearly instant and you are grouped. You will start seeing the same people. People often often stay grouped after the match and continue on as a team. You all can spawn in together regardless of zones and what not

Ok, i get that, but even in a group, whats the point? We cant change the outcome or make choices that affect the virtual world around us... I dont have experience with other MMO's, but, I thought people affected the game environment around them. For example, if I wanted to be a jerk and blow people up and steel their stuff I could, until others banded together and stopped me... Or, if a mission comes and I make a choice to do something different I could change my relationships. I dont know, maybe its me not getting it. But, the lack of instructions and explaination is annoying.

So tell me. How does being in a fleet change the experience?

That's not true. They actually give you quests to MAKE parties even. I've done it in WoW as both horde/alliance, and I've done it in other MMOs.

You are somewhat uninformed as to what an MMO is. All MMO means is Massive Multiplayer Online. Meaning you are there with alot of other people. In most MMOs your actions rarely change the world around you. There are exceptions (usually when content is released, but then you are playing the part of a script). All a fleet will do is get you to play with more people and you might start to enjoy being around them. The only time you can blow other players up is in PvP and you don't get any of their stuff. Pretty much anything that you do NPC related is a script and only has one or two types of outcomes that won't impact the actual game environment.

you get to hear about the daily lives of specific strangers rather than random strangers.

Other than powerleveling or doing the same stale PVP maps there is no point to fleets in this game.

Off the main page, check the teaming tab..

Ignore the fanboy and yes this game is missing ALOT of things. Best thing I can say is make some friends or find a friendly fleet to join... one that has upper level people who don't mind helping out those new to the game.

I am in a huge and active fleet, we run lots of missions in teams and do pvp on regular basis. MMO is what you make of it my friend. Its all about choices. if you want to solo the entire game its up to you.

OP: All I hear is you're too lazy to make friends. You want to interact with people? Have you tried interacting? The game has people all over the place. It doesn't force you to play with others, nor does it force to play alone, the only reason some people feel there is no interaction between people is because they don't interact. You get as much as you give.

If you give nothing expect nothing.

there are quests in wow that have recommended party sizes iirc, but they don't say how to form them really. there have even been various LFG systems in wow which make forming groups easier and easier, but you still have to take the initiative to try them out.

MMOs have always been about taking the initiative to form parties yourself, even in ones that pretty much force you to group up.

STO is the first mmo i've played that automatically puts you in team by default upon joining the instance for your particular mission- no effort required, although it's broken past a certain point.

I painfully agree here. the over-instancing ruins the scope of the MMO genre of this game. I liked champions online a LOT, but found it extremely difficult to get together with friends that I was talking to on vent and play with al the time. Most of the time we could not get together because the instancing did not allow some of us to enter it or see the others. Sure we can change instances but if someone has already completed it or has not completed the previous mission then we're NOT going in together.

Star Trek is doing that too. they're not too friendly when it comes to playin with others whether they're strangers or long time friends that KNOW how to play together. Cryptic's instancing system is soooooo NOT multi-user friendly from the customer point of view.
