For the First Time in 3 days I logged on to the forums and Didn't have messages in my in-box from Gold Spammers. Were they finally able to cut back on these guys? Lets hope so.
I too do not want to jinx it but CS has been actively working behind the scenes to ensure we try and combat spam in-game and out of game. We have implemented several processes that has helped deflect the amount of spam in-game. I am not saying you will never see spam in-game or in your mailbox but we are doing everything we can to combat this annoyance.
I am also pleased to announce that in the next several days we will be adding the functionality for you to report spammers from your in-box from the website.

if cryptic is banning the gold spammers accounts in game, at 50 bucks a pop how could they possibly make money. I mean with no trials at this time it would be to expensive for them to spam ingame.

Charge backs. Basically they contest the charge with their credit card company. Costs devs money. Gold sellers are true vultures.

Well I was laughing when I actually got farmer spam in BETA lol. Sadly it's something that will always be around. I'm used to it from playing WoW. At least in that game they PM you instead of open chat spam. I am pleased to see the "report" option when you click on their name. I also like how it blocks their handle and not just toon name. I must have deleted 100 or so spam emails and around the same from in game spammers.
I played for 5 hours today without a SINGLE spammer bugging me. Last night, before the patch I had dealt with 3 from tells and 2 from mail (not the worst it has gotten, but still). This is a major improvement. Thanks a LOT Cryptic, keep up the great work.

This seems common practice these days. I wonder if not Cryptic and the cardcompanies have som deal to sort these frauds out?
I loathe the goldspammers. But I think the people buying their services are even worse.
Last night i did not see any goldspammers at all in-game around sirius and alpha centauri. I even saw a GM ensuring the players that he was here to take care of them.

You're assuming they actually pay for such accounts with their own money. Stolen credit cards can be used to create such accounts.

Great news. Thanks for the information. It is appreciated to say the least.
I'm they are rich just from selling the codes on Ebay. Couldnt even get them in st louis while game was still in beta. People came in and bought 100s at a time.

I didn't get any /tells or emails from spammers last night, but when I logged off at around 11pm PST, zone chat in Sirius Sector Block and Earth Spacedock (in space and on the station) was ridiculous. There were literally between 1 and 2 spam messages per second.
I mean, zone chat is easy enough to ignore, but if anyone had a legitimate question to ask it would have been impossible.

This pleases me.

The power of taking things out of context.
Do you work for Fox news?
Well if I worked them, I would have somehow included that it was Obama's fault for the spam.
Hahahaha touch
Maybe they bought hundreds of Del Taco cups?
