The New Exploration Timer

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Is it me, or is it now "too fast" to have the timer start from when you accept it. Because now, one could literally do nothing but exploration missions back to back, get badges, get better gear than through the normal patrol and storyline missions. Of course, this might make it even more boring and repetitive, but for the gear-minded folks...

For example, I could hit a new level (like, say, LT to LCDR), do nothing but exploration missions, and in a relatively short amount of time, have the higher level of Mk VI greens pretty early on in the LCDR leveling process.

It makes the quest rewards for the "normal" quests almost irrelevant, except for the occassional blue quest reward.

Working as intended?

Hmm... most of the green quest rewards for storyline quests are on par with the green items from the exploration badges at the same Mk level.

I actually like the change personally. Nothing was worse than having to wait to do a mission, although I am not sure I agree with the change to the defend missions. I guess in a way the defend missions were a way to level WAY too fast, but it was also repetitive and boring.

The problem is that there are actually spots where you run out of storyline/patrol missions and have to do defend/explore missions for exp, if you only focus on patrols and storyline.

I love doing explore missions, even though I've seen each one a zillion times over. Except for the aid ones...I just warp out and leave those planets to their doom.

I think it's too short of a timer since i went from Captain 7 to Captain 9, 2 full levels in 3 hours at that rank seems a bit too speedy. My own fault for racing through since there's not much to do in later levels even with the little update today. So if any one wants to power level and update gear they did a good job at helping that today...

The good part about exploration badge rewards is not that they are superior, because they are not, but that you have a very broad choice in terms of consoles, shields, engines, and a moderate choice of weapons.*

*Really, who at Cryptic thought we'd need a whole lot of 12 different shields that are mostly only slight variations of each other, similarly with engines and deflectors, when on the other hand you cannot get a complete set of different weapons of a given energy type (for example, disruptor and tetryon give no beams, while polaron give both beam types etc.).

did you just figure out you could farm those for badges?

but the explore missions are not how you power level.... they are just good for the badges... once you have the gear you need you can just skip them until the next rank....there are way faster ways to level than wasting time scanning.

What is your point? I mean seriously I can't believe if the speed up the pace on anything we have wingnuts go ape-TRIBBLE...NO SAID YOU HAVE TO DO IT THIS WAY. Play the game yourself, if people want to do nothing but exploration mission, or just PvP, or just regular mission LET THEM!!

Although imo they set the standard for what kind of non-combat mission we should have. I mean the Investigate planet/base that feature no combat.

Nah, I'm working on my 2nd toon. Even with the "new content" - the only thing worth doing at the moment is logging in, doing the daily on the RADM5, then back to the other guy. Farming those badges is what got my first guy leveled so damned fast,

Now my 2nd guy is leveling even faster with the new timers. it just seems odd that, given the lack of real end game content at the moment, they'd implement something that would make people level and gear up even faster.

Hes got a point though. Some people enjoy the exploration missions more than the convoluted story missions or the shoebox pvp arenas. Its one of the few places in the game you can run into something that almost reminds you that this is a Star Trek game. Limiting it is not a good idea.

I am annoyed that once again people just simpliy want to shutdown the flow of the game, and your assuming it will be abused, how? tell me? if I can retaken the exploration mission two seconds after turning it in, that saves me 30 mins, why did you even care? Thats what annoys me, you care about what I do, how I play and I don;t fracking know you. So casual gamers can make a bit of progress, get more bang for their buck and this annoys you, I just don't get it.
