Warp trail options

Video options need settings for warp trails. The most disturbing of them is center red trail that just dont seem to belong in there, blue trails from nacelles could actually look quite good but that red one is just red.

Red means bad.

Options like disable or enable warptrails could be cool. Also adjusting intensity of effect in question could be very good also option to show only blue or red or blue and red would be very welcome.

Most important, these options should affect clientside only so if you choose not to see them, other still see if they wish.

I am quite sure that there are quite a few captains that would like to stop this endless plasma leak :)

So please do some improvement in that part as well.

Just for clarity's sake, the trails you refer to are your ship's engines at full impulse power, not warp. The only time you see your ship at warp is when it turns into a flash of light on the horizon after hitting the "leave sector/zone/etc" button. ;)

That being said, the "red engines" are your impulse engines, while the "blue nacelles" are your warp engines. So, if anything should be changed, it's that impulse power should only leave red trails, not blue.

I'd like the option to turn the "trails" off as well. Maybe only have them at "full impulse" or something, but they look kind of ridiculous.

For a while there in Open beta, I stopped seeing them from the nacelles (The blue "trails") and I loved it. Now if only I could make them go away again. And the red ones too.

Devs descriped them as "warp trails" when this was in discussion long before CB. Their purpose is supposedly give you orientation of moving, which they do but in the cost of "Trek" looks.

To speak the truth, there should be no trails at all. Starships in Star Trek do not leave visible exhaust of any kind. They can went plasma if they want and bit more but that is nothing everyday happening. Ships in series never leave these trails unless they are engaging to warp but thats totally different thing.

But since there are many kinds of players there needs to be an option to turn them off, simple as that.

They don't leave trails because all of their propulsion technology, including impulse drives, are field-based, not thrust-based. So there really shouldn't be a visible trail. Especially one that bends...

Not true; you're at warp whenever you're moving through a sector block.

Clearly the Devs' idea of what they collectively call 'warp trails' doesn't quite match what decades of Star Trek canon have established. If anything we should never see trails coming from our warp drives in sub-light and at best there might be a bit of a trail from our impulse engines at full impulse (because as ion-based drives they do emit ion exhaust visable or not).

Regardless I agree the Devs should give us options to toggle the warp trails and the impulse trails on and off separately to let us decide what is "appropriate" or not. ;)
