Display Name?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
As strange as the Name@Name system is, I have never once in the game received a clear explanation of how it works. Upon creating my character, I named him Zodack (surprise), and then proceeded to make his full name Barsidious Anil Proctor - my roleplaying name, because I assumed the first would be a login name for my character or something of the like.

My question is: how do I change my display from Zodack@Zodack to Barsidious@Zodack? I was hoping your roleplaying name slot would come in handy, but now I even have NPCs calling me "Captain Zodack", which I am not.

The @name is your game name, or account handle. It is not your account name, unless you made it the same. It is what every single character on your account is tied to. It is like this, so you can have any name you want for a character without fear of having it taken by someone else.

To change your name in the way you want is simple. Create a new character. The first part is the character name, and the second part is your game handle. The second part will always be the same unless accounts and billing chages it.

I know this, but the game never gave me a clear description on how this was determined. The character sheet has the full name box and the display name box. I filled both out and logged into the game as Zodack@Zodack. I never found out how that happened - I filled out one box as Zodack and suddenly my display name was both.
How do I change it, if I can change it? It's getting a little old being called "Captain Zodack" by some NPCs and the proper "Captain Barsidious" by others.

I think the OP is referring to the character naming process, where the player picks their 'displayed' name first, then the characters first, middle, and last names. I haven't changed mine, but supposedly they fixed the "rename" issues with the patch today.

Maybe try renaming your character and see if that handle field opens up to be edited?

I could very well try that. My full name is fine, but the display name is what I am confused about. Nowhere on character creation was I ever shown anything along the lines of "Zodack@Zodack", just the Display Name box. I put Zodack in as my display name and thought nothing of it until I logged in and saw otherwise. I'll try renaming right now.

Edit: Another thing that the Devs might want to address is that some NPCs call you by your display name, while other, more mission-oriented NPCs will call you by your full name. It's a bit confusing.

In the Rename option, the Display name box is greyed out and it says "You must select the Rename Option at the log in screen."

The only problem? There is no such thing, or I have not been able to find it.

I thought that renaming your characters "short name", as the OP wishes, was going to be a micro-transaction in the C-Store down the road...I couldn't find a link for you, but I remember reading it.

You probably won't be able to change your name until a later date...that's why you can't do it right now. Your only option is to make a new character with the "short name" you want...

Send a ticket to billing with your top 3 choices, listed in preferential order.

Damok@Tanagra would be an epic handle.

really ?? the only way is via billing support?

I sent them a ticket about my being billed for my account the day i signed up ( no 30 days free) 3 days ago and have not heard back from them! sans auto reply. I am not going to start yelling beacuse i am sure they are over loaded. but 3 days is a little long by today's standards.

BTW how do you create a support ticket. When I try on the website inside my account, I can't. It that just me?

Or do i just email billing?

    Thanks
