This game is brilliant unfortunately i have just had a week off work ( this wasn't planned to play the game by the way :) )but after this very relaxing week i have reached the peak both a klingon character and a federation character with no missions left apart from exploring again. I want more miissions, ships, powers weapons and levels to achieve hehe
of corse all in due time i dont expect this over night although how kool would that be.

We need more neways because i give it two weeks and everyone will be admiral level 5 the only difference will b our name...(no that can be copied) maybe our ship ( no that can be copied) .... so pretty much in a couple of weeks will all be clones all fighting our new friends the borg who are so tough i timed a deep sapce encouter earlier and they lasted 23 seconds ok there was about 25 feds in the area but should be able to put up more of a fight they are the borg after all.
this aint no moan i just want more :D

Star trek online already game of the year for me but give us more so we can keep interested and continue playing. thumbs up for new patch its in the right direction accept for the weak borg its added content and thats what we want.

Based on the thread title I figured you wanted one of these, but modernized for the era the game is in.

here's what MemAlpha has to say

    http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Dreadnought!

A shot from the old tech manual

Now there is a lot of fan made updated ones, as well as the one from the Star Fleet Command vid game which was big and nasty. SFB also had a couple designs, all big and nasty.

There are Fed dreanoughts in-game. I've seen them in use by the AI. As Fed, you go on a couple missions where they are placed.

They are the most mis-begotten and fugly thing I have ever...EVER...seen. I wouldn't use one even if they were offered. I would happily use a lesser ship, and happily suffer the ramifications for being "underpowered" in order to avoid using one of these.

They are BRUTALLY ugly. Their design is COMPLETELY out of place. I hope they NEVER see the light of day as a player ship. Very very VERY bad design.

I got to blow up some Federation 'Dreadnoughts' when I took my Klingon into a fleet action. They were ridiculously huge, they made the battleships look tiny.

HERE is an excellent article which discusses good starship design. Those three nacelle mutations are, quite frankly, very lame. Ohhh! It has one extra engine! It must be so POWERFUL...please, spare me.

Even so, I would take that sloppy cop out over the THING that exists currently for a dreadnought.

Honestly what I want to see is:
    http://centurionfleet.co.cc/images/ship_typhon.jpg

The Typhon-class from Star Trek Invasion, it was basically a "Carrier" type Starfleet ship that used "Valkyries", Starfleets version of fighter-craft that were heavily armed and armored for their size. Basically imagine a cross between a danube-shuttle and the Defiant.

Looks like a shoe. I think it looks completely fugly as well. There is a design ethic to each race. This is important, as it represents cultural and psychological aspects of that race, as well as allowing easy identification of who a ship design is affiliated with.

The point being, what you want is a carrier. How about there is a carrier designed which still looks like a Fed starship, instead of some PoS box. Frankly, while the Federation has fighters, it is highly questionable as to whether they have dedicated carriers. It is more likely that those fighters are stationed on larger cruisers temporarily, when heavy combat situations are expected.

I agree, the old Fed class was ugly as sin.

I've seen some newer design ideas that seemed to work and looked nice.

http://www.treknology.org/index.htm has some excellent (and some rather bad) fan designs.

The Star Trek: Hidden Frontier Fan Film people had a dreadnought based on the one we all saw in the last episode of ST:TNG. The 3 Nacelled Galaxy with the massive spinal mount phaser cannon.

    But who knows.

I've noticed that the Majestic Class that they players get and the Majestic Class that NPCs get look different from each other.

The NPC Majestic has a bigger saucer, different neck connection, larger secondary hull, and engines that players do not get access to. Overall, it makes the NPC Majestic look like a much larger ship.

Side note: When I discuss ship size, I am generally referring to it's overall volume and mass, not any particular linear dimension.

While I'm against recycling models in this way (it indicates sloppy and lazy art direction), it does provide an excellent example of how a few proper dimension adjustments to models can give the impression of a heavier "dreanought" without the need to break the design theme for the Federation.

Also, the engines on the NPC Majestic look pretty heavy. Those would be a neat option for a large ship.

I'll have to go through that site and see some of the good (and bad) ship designs. Thank you for the link. :)

My PERSONAL opinion is that I like the idea of the Federation having nothing larger than the Galaxy (yes the Sovereign is smaller, and it is supposed to be). Instead, their higher rank ships become more technologically advanced rather than going for "friggin huge," like the Klingons and Romulans/Remans. I feel it gives them a unique feel to their design progression. It could be labeled a "Dreadnought", but its design would actually be for a Sovereign sized or even slightly smaller ship, which packs a ton of advanced technology.

    Anyways, that's my 2 credits.
