I been at this game for about 4-5 days now and i'm kinda enjoying it i'm a big star trek nut so just being in game is a lil thrilling.

But i got my resolution set to 1080 and i feel like and old man with my face up to the screen trying to read mission debriefings

This is 2010 and its a game about Star Trek and i'm still reading text like its D&D :p

I don't get it they paid both Spoks to do cameo voice-overs, they cant get some nobody to read the rest of this for me.

i find my self now just skipping over most of the text now sadly and probably missing out of some decent story-lines cause I'm done try, i think the quest would be 100% times better if they could hear it rather then reading white walls of text.

just my thoughts i'm sure i'm not alone in this, I would proudly do the voice over FOR FREE if they need volunteers

Are you seriously complaining about READING? My god, what has this world come to... Every day I have less and less faith in the future of humanity. I see "Idiocracy" becoming a reality....

When people are complaining about having to read, I think it's time for that cataclysmic meteorite to take us all out on this planet and start over, because clearly there is no hope for us.

I was reading the OP, thinking it was intentional sarcasm, and was waiting for the punchline.

Then I realized they were serious. :(

Even with a "nobody", voice overs are very expansive. Cryptic's STO didn't have the same budget as Bioware's TOR unfortunately.

Well, to answer your question and actually try and be helpfull unlike some people who apparently are only after a higher post count, you can resize both the UI and Font Size in the options screen. If i'm not mistaken it's under the Controls tab.

Im not after a higher post count, I am out to shake my finger in the face of someone complaining about reading. Whats next? "Oh noes, this game makes me think too much, can we get someone to think for me?" Or, how about "OMG its SOOOOO hard to move my mouse, it makes my fat arms tired, can someone move the mouse for me?" Remember WALL-E, the fat, amorphous people who were turned into unthinking, unmoving blobs of retardism? Well......

I love the voice work from the Spocks. More voice work for mission content = WIN.

I like the voice additions that have been added to a number of the missions. I couldn't believe how many people were knocking the Gatekeeper voiceover from City on the Edge of Never - I was lovin' it. Keep it coming. Please do continue to add voiceovers to the mission content for existing missions. As long as the text is still present in our logs if we need to go back and check something it enhances the game immensely.

Please do not, however, reduce the amount of mission background and briefing info because of complaints on the amount or size of text. I believe it is possible for players to change the font size in the pop-ups?

I don't know if they intend do add more mission voice-over, but i know indeed that we will see more voice-work in this game, particularly for the bridge officers. The system is already in place, only it's broken. ATM they are fixing it.

NICE. Hopefully they will at least have it flagged for faction specific voices before they release it. I do remember seeing the drop-down box in the BO screen to choose a voice..

I vote for a braille text ability for the blind players. Its hard enough flying by touch, but not being able to know whats going on in the game has got to be nerve-wracking.

alot of u missed my point, I'm not against reading, I'm against having to read when i'm setting infornt of a monitor playing a game like STAR TREK and have to read tons of npc chat when it would have been a much better experience if it was actually said to me.

sorry if some of u disagree with that or maybe you just didn't READ it correctly

Have you considered something like this =)

But yea more voiceovers would be nice too. AoC quests 1-25 were awesome w/ cinematic view and voiceovers.

I too would like to see more voice-overs on the episode missions. The warp into the first system and hear "Captian's Log: Stardate 12345 Starfleet Command has ordered us to patrol the TRIBBLE system.... "

If someone could just get text to speech working good enough to sound like a natural voice. Voice modulation software is out to make the voices change, just need a natural sounding voice from a computer "reading" text. So far text-to-speech sounds like... well a Computer.

I'd like to see an option to change font size.

Considering how much dialog is redundant in the patrols and the exploration missions, I really think they could voice over most of those... clearly they only change a variable or two...

And frankly, they use that pop-up window as a crutch...it's an old programmer / UI trick for locking out things while you do other stuff behind the scenes... "old" as in "sucky"... They need to clean the whole mission presentation up... It's unpolished and pragmatic....sorta amateur actually...and I doubt that it does the developers justice...

I wonder if the community would be interested in doing voiceovers. I'm gonna have to practice my klingon voice!

Guys seriously... why doesn't this game come with a neural plug so I can just get all the information input directly into my brain?! Seriously... having to read is so last century...

Being able to read and easily comprehend whats being read means you're better off than more than 50% of the worlds population, and you're complaining about it? ...

    There's nothing wrong with reading...

Although more voice overs would add some nice immersion.

And really, how many times do you really need to read:

"Captain, we're ready to warp out now."

I actually understand what the OP is trying to say. That popup in the middle of the screen everytime someone wants to say something to you diminishes the gaming experience. A voice over with subtitles (toggle on/off) in lieu of a pop-up would be better, IMHO.

    Yeah, pretty much true.

Even if you lok at it from a pure business/logistical sense... That much VO & download is an ignorant/irresponsible plan. How much more wasteful on resources can you get? EQ2 did it at great expense & they won't do it again.

How much is "[t]hat much?" Most of the stuff is repeated over and over. Some basic sound files wouldn't be too much.

You gotta be kidding... you probably think that there is little to no quests text in MMOs. the last EXPANSION for EQ2 had 90 thousand words in ITEM TEXT. And you don't think there is much QUEST text.. Localized? Sorry, no.

    .

This should have been in the game for every mission. Even if it was just to start it out, then you read the rest. It would be great if that statement was said by your BO's voice when you start a mission.

I didn't want to read it. I wanted someone to say it out to me.

This is a STAR TREK forum after all.
