Still think game too easy?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I have never thought the game to be too easy, and there are a few places where it has been very difficult, but I saw some posts a few weeks ago (during beta) that said the game was too easy.

I have noticed that the game seems to adapt. I started using a stealth buff from one of the tactical kits, then I noticed the Klingons at the base in the Doomsday mission using the stealth ability in addition to some other things I had not seen them using. They are also attacking while I am some distance away. The Doomsday mission has been very challenging. I added a Klingon tactical officer but this did not help. I changed to a different weapon and noticed that I had recovered two firing modes for other weapons (ground combat). I got further along in the mission after this weapon change, also giving the same weapon to two members of my away team. Still, I was unable to get the last of the three doomsday weapons. I returned to requisitions in Earth space dock and purchased two more of these large guns that fire rapidly. Now each of my officers will have one and I might be able to finish the mission. It was when I added these weapons (the automatic phaser rifle MKII) that I was able to defeat various groups of Klingons and a couple of times, all my officers were unconscious and I was the last one to be taken down by the Klingons. Before this weapon, I was usually the first or second to go down. Then I noticed that the Klingons are also using the same abilities that I am using. It's kind of amusing. I also like this rifle because I can use it to hit the Klingons when they charge with their batleths.

I think another thing that has helped with ground combat is that I backed off a little so that I can see when I am being attacked from behind or from the sides. I think I was zoomed in too much.

I'm finding it quite difficult at times.(Especially when I decided to start wandering around sector blocks I shouldn't be in yet. Turns out that when you take on a Galor that's twenty-eight levels above you, you get blasted to bits very quickly. (Seriously, one phaser blast took off all my shields and half my hull strength!)

I'm currently a captain flying a Galaxy class (cruiser) and yes, its still easy. Easy as in "there is no chance to die unless you fall asleep at your keyboard, and even then its 50/50%".

Ground combat is easy as well. Just equip all your BOs with expose weapons, while you carry two exploit ones, and you're set. Use that hold/attack target command when you need to focus fire or make your team stay put, and give your BOs shield/HP healing abilities.

People are saying it gets harder at higher captain ranks, I'm looking forward to it if its indeed so.

    Space-
2x +3 Mogai Escorts beat the TRIBBLE out of me one time. It was pretty awesome. Otherwise yeah its too easy. I have nothing above uncommon on my ship, all weapons common highest tier my rank can use from exchange. 3x +3 BoPs melt in front of my sci ship like it was made for battle, even without using my sci abilities I come out without loosing a shield facing.

    Ground-
I just redid that bugged mission "Minefield". Right before you get to that room with the crates to mark there is a large open area with 3 groups of 4 - 5 enemies each. 12 - 15 enemies with 4 of those the high tier ones that set turrets and regen shields every few seconds. Came out without 1 death.

    PvE is too easy.

I'm currently playing through the game with a friend and after playing the beta we were pretty excited about early release and the live launch. Unfortunately disaster struck when we fell asleep and awoke to find we were admirals after our autofire killed every ship in the universe.

If the space combat doesn't improve by the end of the first month or so then there is no future in this game, so go fix it now please

A few times while in combat in a deep space encounter, my attention was taken from the game for a minute or so and I assumed I would be dead with the "respawn" dialog box on the screen, but was surprised that I was still in play and not even nearly dead. I thought this was a fluke and merely a testament to how bad a player I am.

Still though, the game is a challenge for me and I have no complaints. Right now I am in my first mission involving Romulans and I can't beat the last of the Romulan ships guarding a starbase. I have tried with each time of ship and I do my best consistently when I play with the science ship but I have played it several times and that last ship kills me. I will have to practice some deep space encounters against Romulans.

I was in one deep space encounter in which I saw Romulan Scimitar ships. I know now to avoid them, after engaging one and being easily destroyed in a few seconds by a weapon I had not seen before.

Still think the game is too easy? Yes, yes I do. Next question.

Some people say the game starts getting harder mid-LtCmdr levels, but I'm at Commander-1 and haven't noticed much difference. Enemy ships use more specials, but it's still too easy. Ground combat is taking longer, but it's not any harder so far.

both ground and space is too easy. espacially space: i don't need any bo-skills to win. i only use them to be a bit faster .. i guess i could equip only one beam and would win. i think it was in the right place in start of open beta. except for the tripple high yield greeting which was fixed.

It got harder for me around Lt Cmdr level 5 on the ground and also in space.
On the ground, I had to get all of my officers the same gun I have, when I got an upgrade after winning a battle with a group of Klingons with targs. I killed the targs first as they were by themselves. Even then I had to play this part of the mission a couple of times to win and I thought to have the phaser turret put up before engaging the Klingons.

It was in this same mission (the one with the Doomsday missiles) that I saw some Klingons using some new abilities like disappearing from one battle and reappearing with reinforcements after I thought I had won that engagement. I was very amused and surprised at this.

    too
    easy

    void of content
    lacking community involvement

This is more like a console game than an MMO

Too easy and I'm really not good at video games usually. I'd like a difficutly setting to make sure everyone can play and have fun.

I wouldn't say its hard come late Lt. Commander, more that its where it feels like a 'regular' difficulty setting rather then an 'easy' one. So its not hard it just a noticable increase. I think that the difficulty should have started there and probably ramped up as the game progressed. Hopefully a slider is coming soon which will solve alot of the its to easy/not easy debates.

The game was never too easy. The content was too shallow. To reach admiral in STO is equal to getting from level 1 to 20 in WoW. If STO had levels 21-80.... I'm sure the difficulty would scale with the content.

Well that's kinda true in some places, However the content difficulty was decent at the start of Open Beta. Shame it went down hill from there

I could not win on the ground without the BO's. I have an older computer (4 yrs old) and perhaps this makes the game more difficult. A challenge is fine but I don't want a game where it is impossible to win. Perhaps there should be a more difficult route for those who think the game is too easy but for me it's just about right.

The truth of the entire difficulty debate is the same here as it is in every bar, or Chuck E Cheese in the continental United States...:

Some people just have to insist they are awesome, and cannot stand even the thought that they aren't awesome... We all know where they are coming from, and we all know what their motivation is... We just like to think we are more open to the idea that we are wrong about it, when we aren't... It's all about budding young egos ....

(But I still think Cryptic is *insane* if they don't put in a difficulty slider to give people the option of nutty-insanely-difficult... )

How can you win with out using your Bo's????? I use mine all the time................. I use one as a paperweight and another I shoot out of the torpedo tube so he can latch onto the mobs hull and start making a annoying tapping sound that would drive the mob's crew insane wondering " Wheres that tapping coming from???", then i make the others get out of the ship and have them push my ship so i can turn faster

I knew there was a reason I should find a Chuck E Cheese and go there.

Yep, still very easy at Captain. I can destroy classic group of 3 BoPs/escort/battleship in one attack (meaning I dont have to turn). Only what is fun are two more escorts at the same time (especially Mogai). Most dangerous encounter for me was when I was without front shields (yes, my shields are like paper on my escort, but who needs shields) and an D'derix hit me with Viral matrix a I got hit by Heavy plasma torp.

Ground I think is as difficult as you make it by choosing weapons and skills.

I find the game too easy. I spend half my time AFK puttering around the house than I do playing the game. Getting boring. Especially the super easy 0/5 kill squadrons in space during patrol missions. I just did a sector patrol where all three systems were 0/5 kill squadrons. Dull.

Death happens occasionally, yes, but it's rare and not really much of a problem.

I was unable to survive until I equipped all my officers with the same weapon I was using.
The "brace for impact" option helps with the heavy plasma torpedoes, but some of the larger Reman or Romulan ships have a wide beam weapon I only encountered once yesterday after I had beaten most of the other enemy ships. This beam destroys my ship quickly and I am not sure how to get past it, perhaps by not getting too close to the ship during battle. I find the Romulan/Reman ships much more difficult to beat than Klingon ships.

I am puzzled as to why some people find the game so easy. Could part of the reason have to do with hardware? I will find out when I buy a newer computer.

Well I just started my second character. Right off the bat I ditched the miranda and got him into a runabout and... soloing is VERY hard.

Ever tried fighting a battleship npc in a runabout? yeah... not easy.

But that's the only was so far I can think of to make it somewhat of a challenge for my self. I blew through my first character to admiral without even a single moment of panic.

I have zero points in any ground abilities of any of my BO's and have yet to wipe in a ground combat. I've never had more than two go unconscious and that happened a grand total of once. Usually never even have one go down, even when the tards aggro a second set of baddies with all their mindless running around. I probably shouldn't complain because ground combat is so bad I'm glad I can faceroll through it just to get it over with.

Space combat is a LITTLE harder now because of more enemy specials, but 3 equal level ships is still no problem.

I don't claim to be some leet player. The game is just...too...easy.

what games are you playing that are hard?

RPG type game are especially easy with the right character build/party comp.

FPS take more twitch skill, especially in multiplayer, but still have winning strategies.

i've never played a challenging mmo. they don't exist except for wow hardmodes before the nerfs.

It's more than just easy- it's an accumulation of useless worthless stuff.

Why craft when badges get you the highest tier loot in the game?
Energy credits can't buy anything that is superior to the exploration badge system.
Starfleet merits? No need for those since you are offered blue and purple crew for free.
BOFF training points? Well since one BOFF is pretty much as good as another, I just used my first 5 original ones- and have 20k points now leftover.
Stims and shield batteries? Worthless, just use a tribble, and thats assuming you can even get damaged in ground combat.
Device batteries? I stopped using them pretty much as a Lt., although if I really needed one I could use my Red matter device. And besides, why use 4 device slots when they are all on the same timer anyway.
Ground gear? Worthless, just beat your opponent with a rifle butt until he exposes and poof one shot kill him.

Just as a test I set one tube to auto and one beam to auto and just went afk- yah, it won the battle up until +1.

My grind time to Admiral 5? About 3 days, 12 hours- and that included the new borg content missions.

So what am I paying 15 bucks a month for again? maybe I roll Klingon next, and get another 3 days gameplay out of it.

They need to increase the difficulty and increase the amount of things to do. Better yet, open up the servers to open PVP for pete's sake. At least that will keep me busy for awhile.

We are taking out 3-4 (0 to+2) borg cubes in under 1 minute with 7-8 players.

I can solo a +2 borg cube in about 1 minute.

Yes the game is still too easy.

The game is very easy to say the least. I think there are just alot of gamers on different levels of in-game competency and familiarity, though some people just want to purposefully take their time also. I have a job/wife and all that jive, yet I can still dedicate a decent amount of time to gaming, but i've also played 80% of the major MMOs out there.

To be honest there is rarely any extreme amount of dramatic differences between how the different genre of online games are played anyways. Most of us who have been playing MMOs for the last 6-7 years have no excuse not to complete the current version of this game in a week or two.
