Ive heard things like you can sell Bridge Officers that I get as rewards etc. Can I sell them?
I notice some are green, some are blue. What does that mean?
Ive trained up the first bridge officers I came across in the game, and am hesitant to try and replace them because I have spent points training up my original crew.
Should I be replacing them with blue or green officers? Why?
Im assuming I would have to retrain these new officers all over again.
I looked around in the online manual and didnt get much explanation on these questions. Any input would be great. Thanks.
The rarity level (colors white, green, blue, purple) are based on what skills/traits they get.
To me, these rarities arent all that because, you can buy one for cheap, and customize the boff to your liking by buying another cheap one, and ultimately build a boff that is better than a 'rarer' boff.
Yes, you can sell your boffs (only those who haven't been commissioned yet). If you already commissioned them, then they are now bound to your character.
To sell them you can click on the button in the sell tab and it will list out what boffs you can sell.
when you commission an officer and he happens to be an engineer for instance and you have an engineer already, you are given a join choice and a train up choice. (join is only if you have space for them in your roster), train up is if you want to replace an existing boff's power with ONE of the powers offered by the new boff. So if you get a guy that you really like, and has all the stats you want. Be careful not to select train, because you can only choose ONE of the powers and then he disappears after he trains your existing boff.
When shopping on the AH, look for boffs with abilities you want your existing ones to have/replaced with.

THANK YOU. So nice. And to be told this info by HER, just makes my day. *Swoon*
The color codes for bridge officers are just like the items - they denote both quality and rarity.
A rarer bridge officers has better chances of having the following:
~ Better ground traits. Aside from the very first bridge officer you get in the tutorial (whom is actually decent), most of the bridge officers you'll commission will have their non-racial traits labeled as basic. Basic traits provide half the percentile bonus a captain character could get with traits on creation. The rarer your bridge officer, the better the chances are that their traits might be trait name only (usually twice better than basic) or superior (which is three times better than basic).
~ Some may have better Skills in their list. The skills you usually want to pay attention to are the level 3s (Lunge III, for example). Those are, to my knowledge, only skills that your bridge officers can have if you happen to be able to train them with it... and that by sharing thier profession and having a capped 9-level skill that teaches them that skill (ex.: the Shield Efficiency skill teaches Emergency Power to the Shields III). Seeing that you only have one profession, but three kinds of bridge officers serving under you, and that you can max out only so many skills, the skills the rarer bridge officers provide can be precious opportunities to teach them to your prefered crew members.
I understand your reticence to train your first bridge officers and then have them replaced by supposedly new and better ones. You should take under consideration, though, that bridge officer skill points are an unlimited resource in comparison to captain skill points. When you will level cap, you'll still be able to obtain those.
I know the first bridge officer you get is decent (either the andorian tactical, the bolian engineer or the vulcan science) so I know I can stick with him/her for a good while. In early levels, that officer is the only one I'll invest in once I've decided on his/her ensign skill (trained via the bridge officer trainer in Earth Starbase).
I have it easier for my second bridge officer seeing it's by Amazon-preordered Borg drone. I know I'll keep her and I know her traits, so I'm not shy about investing in her either.
However, for all those that follow, I tend to be a miser on skill points until level 11, when I get to decide what my ship will be and the stations available to me. When that comes up, I go and get what I consider my long term crew, invest in having them learn the skills I want them to know, and then upgrade them.
Generally, when I see new candidates, I check them out to see if they have skills I like. If they do, I train my current bridge officers with them. If they don't, I'll put them up in the Exchange for a good price (I imagine using Energy credits to obtain bridge officers for training purpose is an attractive solution, seeing Merit is harder to come by than Energy Credits). If they happen to share the exact same race, profession and gender as one of my present bridge officers... I'll consider using the new one as a replacement.
Around Commander rank, I've also found out that I had a good quantity of skill points to play around with, so I had room for experimentation and to try things out. Therefore, I wouldn't worry to much about having to retrain new bridge officers. Eventually, trial and error will all work out. That's my impression anyways.

Ive been searching around but still cant get a comprehensive explanation on many of my general questions regarding Bridge officers.

Again, seriously thank you.

I hope me writing this will help you out, Reed.
