Two Weeks To Find a Reason

well 11 days in and just over a week after official release i find myself bored. With a klink admiral with no prupose, and a smattering of guild mates across the level range (becus its so easy to lvl), there is little reason i see at this time to subscribe to this game. I doubt ill have trouble doing everything in the game (twice) before the end of the month, and considering how many fed admirals are queued for pvp i dont think im alone. This isnt another "i quit, you suck" thread. This is a "game over, what now" thread. So heres to hoping by the end of the month, they add some meaningful purpose to log in. whos with me?

How did you get to Admiral so quickly? I play 4-5 hours a day and still haven't reached level 20.

OR AT THE VERY LEAST A PVP RECORD/RANKING system. even in their promises nothing is spoken of what this game truly lacks

quickly? one guy got it on fed in 2days 10 hours. it took me over 10 days rl probably about 70-75 hrs game time. and it was a horrible drag, with only 4 "pve" "missions" for klink (non autoteaming instance ones, where everyone has to rescan again ad again, and you cant hop for a timer reset!) and a dearth of opoonents in pvp, i friggin earned it! every klink who ggets adrmiral should get a gold medal in rl for their suffering at the hands of TRIBBLE developers

I enjoy the game. I have no serious issues with gameplay, and I am optimistic about the content to come.

But I doubt if I'll renew, sine it has been three days since I have been "allowed to log in at this time" to play and my interest is fading fast.

So it would seem that Cryptic will be losing some who enjoy teh game as well as those who don't.

Dude you need to spend that time looking for a job. If 15 bucks is going to break the bank stop immediately!

Meanwhile I am having a blast with the federation ships like an escort T2, science T2, and a cruiser at T2.

Admittedly I've only been playing myself for a few days, but I've come to STO from WOW and LOTRO, so I was expecting a lot more variety in an MMORPG. So far I've had the same battle around a different coloured planets and beamed down to the surface to run around touching flashing things (while having the same battle with different coloured aliens). I'm hoping that I've missed a large chunk of gameplay, because surely it isn't just that, is it?

Am I just picking up the wrong quests, or is that essentially the game?

I don't get how people run into this problem. I can see just hitting cap about now if you play quite a bit. I get in ~2 hours a day on weekdays and ~4 on weekends so far, and I'll just be hitting commander after my post patch playing session if I'm lucky.

You went in knowing Klinks had 0 content. I really don't get that issue.

If someone like myself who plays fairly casually was at cap.. that would be a serious issue. This isn't a mature game, there is nothing to rush to cap for. I don't want to defend the lack of release content but I only know of 1 game that had more end game hours than 1 - cap hours at launch. That was only due to horrid drops making it necessary for you to grind the event for many, many months.

    Joe don't go!!!

If you leave now you'll miss the chance to shoot down the TF and the RSC plus us noobs in ELITE!

Get yourself a job but then come back and have some fun like we all used to in SFC3.... Who knows by then we may even have convinced the DEVs to put true FFA games in with the option to refit your ship before each battle.

If this is the end though it was good to chat with you again and all the best for the future :)

You know...I sometimes wonder why people join new MMOs. But I just have a hard time understanding the need stop RL activities and play a game to the point where your mom must bring you a bed pan and the other major piece of hardware in your room is the microwave for the endless Hot Pockets (yeah, I stole this from South Park) But really try to immerse yourself in the game a bit more, and maybe, make it to the gym and sweat a little.

The problem with this supposed "content" is that it's just a few more missions. How long will those take you, another day maybe two. there is no possible way that they can crank out missions fast enough when a huge amount of people have already completed everything within two weeks. the point of an MMO is that you always have something you can do, MMO also used to mean a game with a persistant world that the player actions effected which is what allowed them to be such long term games. When cryptic chose to make a grind engine instead of a real MMO they gave up the longevity of the game.

solution. a real pvp system with territory control and an actual star trek universe at war that we were sold. When there is no persistant end game content an MMO will flop just like.......CO. couldn't have seen that one coming.

So they can either add in a robust actual PvP game, make certain systems contestable with rewards and goals....or they can try to appease people with a couple new missions every month which will still mean 28 days a month no one will have anything to do and eventually quit.

I agree this would be a great PvP endgame, ala DAoC, but the problem is, I don't think there's anyway they can pull it off with this crappy engine/server set up. Either there is one instance of the controllable area that you'd sit in a queue all day to participate in because of the low zone caps, or there'd be 50 instances of the area, and the outcome would be as equally meaningless as the current PvP setup.

I don't know, that might actually work. With the unending number of instances, I mean. Think about it, a constantly shifting number of fights tilting the balance one way or the other. Each fight ending and tipping the scale 1% or the other, with a maximum influence of 99% (let's face it, unless you're on Qo'Nos or Earth, nothing is 100% ;)). Preset the minimum balance of the contested area at 33% per faction, so that you're never unable to overcome the odds, and allow for 33% influence to be spread out amongst the two factions. That would also allow for the introduction of a third faction down the road (hint hint).

Perhaps allow for incursions further into enemy territory if your faction holds more of the contested area?

I totally agree with the above. If this is all there is to the game... it won't last. Even the hard core trekkers will go somewhere else to play games. What have I missed? All the ground and space missions seem exactly the same with different window dressing. All the "exploration" missions just devolve into the same ground or space missions.

Star Trek- where is all the intrigue, diplomacy, moral choices and interaction with your crew that we see in every episode of every series and every movie? This is an "MMO" but there is rarely a need or benefit to interact with other players. Adding more "missions" to the game will just make the game more boring, the game needs some real content additions to keep the subscribers coming back for more.

I won't be the first to admit that the Klingons did get the short end of the stick with regards to content - almost all pvp stuff and very little pve - but, to draw on my time from Eve, instead of asking for somthing, go make somthing up for yourself!

    Here's a few thoughts

    - Hop into a new ship, even a lower tier one and see how you like it in the fleet actions
    - Hop into a vor'cha and go visit the romulans, cardassians or borg (is it possible? Heck, find out and report back to us!)
    - PvP and earn rewards to buy yourself a perfect fit - all purple stuff from the exchange
    - Join a fleet and drill yourselves into an effective fighting unit - become the masters of PvP! And then drop fleet, join another and beat your old fleet at their own game!

If all else fails, roll a new character and try a different path.

The only thing keeping you bored is yourself.

You can't compare yourself as the "norm" of casual players, when everyone is unique and able to comprehend and go through content faster even in fewer hours. Read the posts from all the captains up through Admiral, and most will show that they were by no means a "power gamer".

They were simply accustomed to playing MMO's and know how to move through content by selecting the "green text" which indicates to everyone that is how to move the plot forward and get the NPC to tell you what you need to do.

    ~ Examples:

    1. Go beam down to planet X and scan 5 shiny objects associated with a little would be smart talk from your <insert BO here> stating why these shiny objects do.... well whatever they do!

    2. Rid the sector of galactic trash, ie: the bad aliens who are being meanies to the mining colony, the lost freighter, etc.

    3. Scan local sector space flying around and look for the 5 scanning points that give you some random items + complete the mission.

It honestly feels like the part in Star Trek - First Contact, were the Enterprise is off scanning the Neutral Zone while the rest of the fleet is off preparing for war with the Borg.

So for the great many posts I have seen daily from new players who are genuinely experiencing boredom because of a major lack of game content, that is in fact truthful. Having played DAOC, LoTRO, SWG, WoW, AoC, I have to say this content is far lacking in comparison to any other MMO I have played when in comes to content.

This is constructive feedback as to why myself and many other players all share the same frustrations... I am glad others are enjoying their time, or leveling slower... but please do not flame players who utilize their time differently and manage to progress faster in the same amount of time as someone else.

For those that bothered to read this post is full of win.

Each instance of a battle zone effecting the overall outcome of a zone.
YOU HAVE THE NEUTRAL ZONE ALREADY use it Cryptic.
If a zone becomes 'captured' by the faction they gain access to a strabase or planet with vendors or what ever where you can get gear, equipment etc.

Lore wise you could say it as

We have captured Starbase 130. Starfleet Command want this to be our forward operations base for the Klingon campaign. Shipyards are being constructed and engineers from all over the Federation are meeting here to outfit our fleet in the most state of the art weaponry.

That gives us some meaningful endgame without actually having to build much content. Pick a planet or two near the middle of the Neutral zone that can be captured via PVP influence battles and plop some NPCs with some gear.

They need to up the difficulty in STO.. plain and simple..

With the lack of any real DP (yea right i lost some crew, big ****in deal) and the joke that is ground battle.. Seriously, i dont think its possible to fail anything in this game, whether your solo or grouped..

Whats the point of giving us a quest to escort a ship or defend a position if you cant fail no matter how long or badly you play.. Yea defend this ship, off i go make diner for the kids, come back and the ships still alive flying and fighting pointlessly..

Ive played alot of MMO's and never before seen this kind of setup.. How can there be a mission/quest where there is no hope of failure???

I dont care if i die in this game, bleh, 30 seconds and im back in the fight.. no group damage/heal reports to gloat about or to improve fleet members, im an escort so if i get a shot at something, generally i get the loot.. which is good for me, dumb for cryptic..

In wow if i die, its a pain in the TRIBBLE!!!.. i have to run all the way back to my body to rez loosing alot of time and if grouped, also causing the death of my party at higher level dungeons/raids.. My death means alot to my party in wow, in STO.. who gives 2 shiats, im back before you know it, and the fact that the game is just ridiculously easy means my groups still there blowing things up anyways..

Now ground battles.. well there is where they really screwed the pooch.. All these lovely skills and BO options and exploits and to be honest, i dont need to use a single one of them.. Hell i am Captain and havent put a single point into either my BO's skills or my skill tree for ground battle and im walking around killing everything in easy mode.. Sure fun to vaporize a enemy when an exploit comes up, but after weeks of the same battles different scenes and at Captain level with no need for improvement on myself or team skills, where is the fun/challenge.. I seriously cringe each time i beam down now.. its bring repetative and just plain insulting as a gamer to not have the option to fail...
