Has anyone considered that eventually all the spamming of exotics will get annoying?

Im thinking about my progression toward higher Tiers and all I keep thinking about is the literal fireworks show each PvP battle will be as we have more and more exotic skills to spam. Everybody spamming, over and over again to buff this, de-buff that, blah, blah, blah.

I keep seeing each tier getting farther and farther from a Trek battle and more and more Harry Potter starships.

What if we increase the cool downs, tone down the exotics and/or create a concept of exponential deminished returns for exotic specials within a PvP session. Basically give our crews the benefit of the doubt o being able to adapt pro-activly to "new" threats over-time. So over the course of a match, exotics become much less effective. Both on the individiual, but also against the team/faction(to a lesser extent) during the match.

This would include:
Reverse Shield Polarity
Charges Particle Burst
Feedback Pulse
Viral Matrix
Scramble Sensors
Sensor Jam
All Attack Patterns
Directed Energy Modulation
Cycle Shields?
more?

Leave intact, but increase cool downs by 25-50%:
All Emergency Power to "X"
more?

Leave intact
High Yield Torps(since we can only fire 1 torp per end)
Rapid Fire
Beam Overload(including its coming tweak)
various Sensor Scan(anti-cloak counter measures)
more?

Limit severly and add very long cool downs to:
Ramming Speed
Abandon Ship
more?

The hope is to bring into play more player skill and a greater importance of conventional combat execution to the table, relegating specials to being truly special. That way it doesnt look like some kid dreamed up the combat sequences...if someone's ship transforms into a robot in PvP I'll pop!

Since all space weapons have a 'proc' of some sort, and all are low % (5% I believe) I dont see what the problem is with them?

You can load up on one you like, or mix and match, it doesnt give you any advantage over someone who DOESNT do this and sticks with 1 type. It seems to me its personal preference as to which one(s) to use.

I've tried a Mix n Match, I've tried all Phasers, I've tried all Disruptors. I dont think any of them had any benefit over the other. Now that I'm Captain I'm focusing on Phasers since its a cheap skill point to increase Phaser damage but I may eventually add another type to my list.

Well, then we would not do much other than watch our ship fire phasers (and we have to constantly tap the space bar for that). I think the game would be a bit boring if we could not use our BOs as often...

What I would probably add is that whenever we use a power, it drains energy from the related system. We transfer energy to shields, we get a big boost to shields, but the shield energy bar goes down, so we have slower regen for a few seconds (and we cannot use another special back to back). Same with aux energy when using other abilities. Just like weapons take weapon power, other powers should take other energies. A tradeoff, and a limit to special power spamming.

There certainly needs to be a trade off for our specials. As of now, they are just win-win...no liabilities to balance their advanatges.
