Ok, here is a possible (and hopefully) simple solution to the difficulty problems with STO. How about an option to set the difficulty of the game as if we had more players in the party?
Diablo 2 has that feature. Just typing "/players 8" would set the difficulty as if you were playing with 8 other players in the party, even if you were all alone. So a setting like that in the game may be simple to implement, as the mechanic already exists. Just put a pulldown somewhere where you can select how the fights scale. 1 player for normal difficulty (or easy is some cases), 2-3 players want some challenge, 4-5 players if you whip yourself to sleep and your bed is made of nails. This should not affect when you are grouped, it would automatically scale depending on the number of players. That's all I have. Flames, bumps, whatever is welcome.
