Sounds like your firewall/router is blocking the connection.

Also check that IE (yes, IE, not Firefox) is not set to "Work Offline" mode.

Load up IE, click on the Tools menu on the right side, and make sure Work Offline is unchecked. The other stuff you can do in Internet Options (either from the IE tools menu, or the control panel).

ok idk if were missing each other here but this is exactly what is happening. I double click the icon for the STO Launcher. it says Loading please wait...Loading please wait...Loading please wait...Loading please wait... Loading please wait...Loading please wait...Loading please wait...

Then it pops up a small, about 6 x 4 in., screen that says "LOADING...PLEASE WAIT" (white is the background). and then the same exact window goes to an IE internet window error message. Like the page cannot be displayed.

This happens after I click the little icon that the 7000 megabyte download left me on my desktop. my internet works, I'm on Firefox replying to this, IE is not working offline, internet connections are fine and i have a payment to cs champions for like 54 bucks... where is my CD key too?!

It shouldn't be opening any popups, that would make me suspect there is something nasty loading into IE, maybe not a virus per se, but something that shouldn't be there. You can use HijackThis to display what BHOs are setup at least, and see if any look like they shouldn't be there.

I think I may have found the solution to your problem. I had the exact same problem but I just found a way to fix it. Open IE and open your internet options. Under Connections, check your LAN settings. Unless your ISP told you to use a proxy, the box should be unchecked. Try unchecking the proxy settings box and then starting STO. It worked for me and I hope it works for you!

think coderanger got lost somewhere along the lines :D

check internet explorer isnt set to work off line in IE file menu theres a work off line if its ticked remove the tick

if you still have the same problem try cleaning out your temporary internet files including cookies and any script files either manualy or with ccleaner or use IE to clean temporary inerent files

It was my pleasure. If you got this far then I assume your already a member and have already installed your CD key. You have the disk right? The CD key should be with it.

The problem is due to the fact that the game needs IE.
anything that stops IE from working will TRIBBLE with the game.
if all else fails goto internet options/adv/reset.
for me it was a flv viewer i installed.

I'm having issues with my IE. Both IE and Safari wont connect. I've tried everything here, also tried reinstalling IE 8 and putting my pc in DMZ plus mode. No effect :(

    Firefox works fine though.

I'd like to Formally request the game's update launcher not need any browser, OR make a manual update exe?

IS there a way to manually update the game ?? if so, I need to know how.

You will a functional MSHTML install in order to play the game at this time. If you are having issues, I would grab HijackThis and look for components and BHOs that you want to remove. Can you access our website through IE normally?
