Your PSU and CPU are your limiting factors. With your budget I'd suggest a GTX 260 and PSU upgrade. A faster Nvidia GPU with that CPU will just move your bottleneck to the processor. Even with the 260 you might be over what is balanced with that CPU.
You MIGHT be able to use your existing PSU especially if it is a single rail unit but it is technically 50W smaller than recommended.
If you where to get a 680W PSU you would be able to go all the way to a GTX 295 at a later date. Personally I don't like x2 cards like the 295. I like one fast GPU if you are the same way a 550W PSU is as large as you will need. Just be sure and get a good one if you upgrade your PSU.
Play with the little benchmark comparison tool at the bottom and you will see what I mean about the CPU. There is a good article over on guru 3d about matching your CPU and GPU.
I think in a few days someone posted they did a STO graphics card comparison that should be up on Tom's Hardware.
Fairly soon Nvidia is due to release their next line of cards. You might notice some good rebates on existing cards just before the new ones come out so look for that.
I prefer Nvidia myself but ATI does have a pretty good lineup of cards in their 5000 series. I would not rule them out.
Thx guys for your reply's what do you think about this items?.
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 2.66GHz Socket 775 (1066FSB) 3MB L2 Cache the highest by MB can take.
Asus Extreme 8800GS TOP Edition 384MB DDR3 PCI-E, DVI, HDTV Out.
Now I'm a bit confused about the PSU, my current one is a 450W 12cm ATX 12V +5VSB 1,5A and the MB manual it says ATX PSU 24PIN and 4PIN 12VPlugs
ATX 12 2.0 Compliant.
