....... there is technically no "up or down" in space. but its "canonized" that beam down always referrs to leaving the ship and beaming up is always getting on your ship.

I agree! This is an outrage!
We need to mobilize and put a stop to this now before it ruins the game as we know it!
Act now or forever know it was YOUR inaction that doomed STO!

By that logic, we shouldn't be downloading or uploading over the internet either, it should all be sideloading

Unless you use Satellite (amongst other things). Goes to show how silly this thread is,

or at the top of a mountain, then it would be downloading instead of uploading and uploading instead of downloading.... that would really confuse people.

I'm tired of it too, but every time I try to land my ship on a planet I bounce off!

What's a space adventurer to do?

So, if I was next to the object it would be

    "One to beam sideways"

    or

    "One to beam diagonally"

    or my favorite

    "One to beam kitty corner"

    Come to think of it,

one of the classic Star Trek tropes involves shuttlecrafts crash-landing. Techno-babble radiation prevents operation of the techno babble in the shuttlecraft's tecno-babble, and so shuttlecraft's must be used instead of transporters. But suddenly a routine flight turns into...

That's more of a mission idea but landing/leaving via shuttle craft would be kinda neat once in a while.

Yeah, I am sick of beaming down as well!

All the running around and shooting at people only to get a sword to the face...

I say nuke em from orbit, it is the only way to be sure!

To be more accurate, when the transport destination is the place that is doing the transporting, you are "beaming up". When the destination is away from the source of the transport, you are beaming down. There's also the concept of the site to site transport, where neither or both the source and destination are the source of the transporter beam.

    Both slang terms are corret.

    From Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

    Main Entry: kit·ty–cor·ner
    Variant(s): also cat·ty–cor·ner or cat·er·cor·ner \ˈki-tē-ˌkȯr-nər, ˈka-tē-, ˈka-tə-\ or kit·ty–cor·nered or cat·ty–cor·nered or cat·er·cor·nered \-nərd\
    Function: adverb or adjective
Etymology: kitty-corner alteration of cater-corner, from obsolete cater four + corner
    Date: 1838
: in a diagonal or oblique position <the house stood kitty–corner across the square>

-Way to much infor for a minor point. I will shut-up now and go away.
