This is not a troll post or a blow to Cryptic. I actually enjoy the game very much but I feel some things could be worked on. Here is a great example.

Star Trek... I always felt this was a series based in diplomacy.

So you get this mission to deliver a Vulcan ambassador, then the Klingons hail you telling you he is not what he seems, in their normal threatening way and ask for him to be delivered unto them....

Your diplomatic response: Care to repeat that again!? -- Photon Torpedoes away!

You then beam to the planet leaving a trail of Atomized Klingon's in your wake while trying to get to the temple.. You find out that the Klingon's were right all along and the real ambassador is dead!

Oh and lets not forget the Klingon's did not harm any of the Vulcan monks on the planet!

Your Response: Chase the imposter down and Atomize as many Klingon's as you can on your way to his location since their ugly and you hate them anyways.

You then beam to space and the Klingon's actually forgive you and help you kill the imposter and let you live afterward. You vow to one day find them all again and atomize them.

Which you do quite often after this mission.

Can someone tell me what is wrong with this picture?

You didn't atomize enough Klingons :p

But seriously, I do agree. I think Cryptic needs to hire some better writers down the road as it feels rather awkward in that particular mission.

Just remember, the Klingons shoot first and don't surrender. That you might have shot at them first just makes you a bad person. :)

Picard would have frowned and called the Undine into his office to be questioned about whether he was Undine or not. This would have led to an investigation, meanwhile the Klingons would get antsy and start attacking the Enterprise, which would have needed to defend itself but not destroy the Klingons utterly, so they would have had Geordi trying to find a way to disable the Klingon ships while Data unmasked the Undine!

Then Wesley and the Traveler would have ultra warped them to Risa.

    The end!

Not counting Red Shirts, very few people (both enemy and friend) died in the Original Series. In the Next Gen more people died, but the Federation was about peace.

In STO the Imperial Earth took over and now we kill everyting that looks at us funny. :(

There is no diplomacy, no prisoners and all the overtures of peace are overshadowed by Federation Officers slaughtering people in bars, on the planet and in space.

Even in DS9, which had the big Dominion War arc, the battles were few and brief, and most of the episodes in that arc did not have people getting killed at all.

makes you wonder what nerd on the dev team got beat up in school too much and is living out his god fantasies through the storyline :D

I don't understand where people are defending killing klingons. First of all, you are in a massive war involving not just genetic engineering but freaking time travel as well. Klingons are not just trying to TRIBBLE and pillage a few home worlds here and there as they've been known to do. No, they're going to TRIBBLE the whole timeline and wipe your species and countless others outside their empire completely out of existence.

Additionally, exactly when have klingons been particularly trustworthy and NOT mainly interested in kicking the TRIBBLE out of something. If there are armed klingons between you and some critical objective, you can be damn well sure you're not going to have a rousing debate and then march forward after having some tea and biscuits with them.

Seriously, the rose colored hippies in space attitude from the fed players is hilariously out of reality even of the series they love so dearly. Almost makes me want to play as the ignorant and brash klings out of spite.

don't forget, when the undine is unmasked, Picard would have given him a stern talking to about morals and what not.

I think it is because it is to easy, and there is no honor in it, there is no reason like a dp to get a little anxiety about what some 'game told' enemy is.

just wasting things with no challenge feels like sensless violence, if it was difficult, you might try to find a choice around it, if adding choices, but with the ease and no DP, it has no honor nor heroic feel to it.

Thanks for this thread, I strongly approve and share your opinion.

Idea to limit the "evil Federation effect"

    1) The simple way

We just need two skills : "disable ship" and "stun for good", I don't care if the opponent just vanish instead of
staying down. Also, give an accolade to those who kill a lot, it is war, each playstyle should be rewarded.

    Advantages :

    * This would stop the "Federation is evil" threads
    * This would help the immersion for the diplomats / beatniks / Picards
    * A new perk is always good for those who plays hours and hours
    * This would give the option to the more warlike federation officers to get rewarded too, this is woooar after all
    * It takes almost no dev time, THINK OF THAT CRYPTIC, almost no dev time to please MANY players !

    2) A much more powerful and complex system suggested by Leviathan99

    http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=110953

Furthermore, there is a thread gathering players suggestions. Phox stickied it and said he will use it to voice our opinion to the devs. If you didn't post there already, I suggest you do so to ask for less pewpew, more IQ, more diplomacy, minigames, ships interiors etc. etc. so you can be sure your suggestions won't go unnoticed :

Want more things to blow up ? Need more subs to get more addons. Support the trekkies who want just a working stun phaser (very little dev time) and Cryptic can use their money to give you more guns, more ships, more factions, more PVP (very long dev time).

    See ? This is a win-win situation.

Many as a matter of fact since closed beta. The only way to get rid of those threads is to give the beatniks what they want :

    1) A real stun setting
    2) A skill to disable ships

    Problem solved.

I agree partly with what your saying. Cryptic does need to have a lot more missions with a more diplomatic approach to it.

However lest you forget that the federation and the klingon empire are at war. No matter what it is justifiable for you to fight klingons, even if they are right about the ambassador.

I agree that some of the adventures are a bit violent. Of course, I think they are also an MMO. And that Han Solo shot first.
