In an effort to get away from the usual post (we need a death penalty / no, we don't, x is too hard / boring, etc.), I thought I'd try something a little different, maybe a bit more positive. So, here goes:
We've just completed the first week of live STO. While there are bugs, and improvements to be made, what's your favorite part of the game so far?
Please try to be positive- sure, you can mention a pet peeve (mine are the questing interface and the GUI), but tell us about something you really enjoy.
My favorites so far:
Space combat! I was pleasantly surprised with this. In my opinion, it's neither too long nor overly complicated. I've really enjoyed the fleet actions I've joined.
Exploration and patrol missions. Although they can be repetitive at times, there are enough varieties of these missions that I enjoy repeating them.
Ship customization! I just got my cruiser, but I'm not sure I'll like it as much as my light cruiser, which just looked great to me. I loved zipping around in the little guy.
How seriously most people have named their Captains and ships.
I didn't think it was possible in an mmo to have this ratio of good to bad names... but it happened.
For every Captain Jizzer of the USS I'm on a boat...
...there are ten Captain Enkidus of the USS Uruk
I love the feel of the missions. After reading lots of previews and forum rants, I was worried I wouldn't get the true Star Trek feel. I was warned I would never explore, never find diplomatic missions, but I did, and I enjoyed all of them.
I also love the ship combat, as I can watch other captains in our fleet actions and watch them be destroyed in situations where I survived. I LOVE juggling my various power levels, rotating my **** to protect certain shields, keeping track of my enemies shields so I can fire a torpedo in a gap, and managing bridge officer abilities. It is easily the most dynamic and entertaining combat system I have ever experienced in an MMO.
Currently, my only negative is the player base. No one talks to anyone. I try to bring up a conversation in my random fleet actions or mission teams, but everyone is deaf, mute, or both.
Space combat - Can't get enough. After spending a lot time in EVE, this is a wonderful change of pace.
Ships - Notably, my Defiant. I'm going to get a Dervish once I hit Admiral, but I'll still be flying my Vigilante as my secondary.
Exploration/Diplomacy missions (non-ground) - It's a nice break from the killing....
Visiting the places from the shows and movies - Seeing DS9 was great, although the station itself seems a bit....small. Also still need to visit Risa.
Story - There are some great story arcs that I've been wanting to follow. Now that I've reached my goal of getting the defiant class ship, I'm going through and revisiting everything that I skipped.
Hitting Lt. Commander yesterday; the game got harder, way more interesting and fun.
Using my cruiser's "Extend Shields" to help heal others in combat; very useful and fun (if not rewarding...I'm looking at you, Mr. Cryptic DPS-Rewards-Only developer).
The increasing amount of teamwork I'm seeing in encounters - always a good thing.
Some of the missions are well written, and often very funny. "Looks like this bar is overdue for its annual Federation-mandated safety inspection..."
Buying some Mk IV sidearms from a Mudd Co. freighter. Long live Harry Mudd!

Yes, this surprised me, too, and I'm glad to see it.

Leonard Nimoy's voice.
I agree. it's nice to see that some attention was paid to the lore, and visiting those famous places is fantastic!
I love the space combat. Anyone who complains about circiling around is silly, simply because these are meant to be NAVAL battles, and I ain't ever heard of a Battleship with +10 agility stopping, jumping and doing a 180 in the same space.
I also love getting the account server timeouts and spedning hours trying to get online to play ..... oh, wait....
I love the ship combat, to me just the right amount of two handed involvement...
And I'm using ALL my skills which is different from some other MMOs I'm playing.
The amount of optical customization is AWESOME... ships, character, bridge officers...
Even if I'm only visiting the tailor to add another rank pin after a promotion...
The socalled episodes are fun, I'm always a sucker for storylines.
Sadly, my fave part of the game is playing an alt.
The BO skill I want for one of my Tac's doesn't exist & after searching -EVERY- tactical BO on the exchange for 3 days straight (over 3 hours per session of searching, I can say it either doesn't exist or is bound & can't be trained). I have MkX equipment all over my Fleet escort. I tried flying a cruiser...I spent an hour Tokyo Drifting around Sirius Sector space in a Sovereign...I needed some 222" tires and fuzzy dice. I've polished the look of my Fleet escort to where it doesn't look like TOTAL TRIBBLE, just mostly. Crafting is pointless, I'm up over 3 dozen phasers and still unable to progress so skip that. I have PVP.
I really enjoy the episode content, especially when I went back in time and came to the aid of the Enterprise.
That mission will never get any better than the first time I did it during beta, before they added Nimoy's voice. I got my butt kicked by the D7's blocking the portal on the way out--down to about 15% hull and no shields. When I saw the two more BoPs decloak, I thought I was done for until I saw those blue phasers come out of nowhere. So wherever you are, thanks Captain Kirk.
I really like the space combat. I was initially looking forward to the ground based action prior to launch. I looked at the space combat as just a way to get into the ground content. Now I love both. I have as much fun fighting my way through enemy ships on my way to a beam down point. The space battles seem very intuitive. Broadsiding the enemy or barreling in headfirst wearing down their forward shields and hammering them with torps, very basic concepts. I love all the teamwork and seriousness of the players so far. It's terrific and it's only just begun. Glad I bought a lifetime subscription when I had the chance!! Nice work DEVs!!!:D
The klingon faction, pvp and how much awsm fun it is. SHIP INTERIORZ the bridge is awesome one of my very favorite things, i like how it changes ship to ship. Disruptors!!!!! disruptors diruptors, diruptors. Um what else,, Klingon sashs, I like showin off my Captiny bling bling. My vorcha cruiser!!! Oh Oh and my Ktinga Cruiser CLASSIC. Photon torpedoes... why go with anything else?? Stick to the classic fire photons.
Last but not least my Batleth and my Orion slave girl crew members..Now if only they had bikinis................

You want me to be positive so I need to stop there.

I love both combats, I get bored with space sometimes as it fills 70% of the game so ground is a nice resbite, plus I like being with my bridge crew.
Really like some of the uniforms people have designed for themselves, but please, everyone, HIDE YOUR ARMOUR/KITS!!
We cant see the awesome uniforms if your covering them

And I can't wait to get a T4 escort

Story missions are pretty cool and I like that you dont have to group to play this game. Almost captain 7 now
Same here. The arcs are pretty well made.
