Mk IV items drop only - crafting essentially broken?

Preface; After asking around in game, I have gathered numerous statements that say that the Mk IV items, (IE torpedo launchers) of common quality are drop only. If this data is erroneous then all this thread needs is data that is accurate.

Crafters face quite a few setbacks as it is, these include but are not limited to -
  • Drop Ratios that do not reflect the frequency of item use (Though this seems to improve somewhat in higher level regions, the simple truth is that we shouldn't have to be Lt. Commander to start crafting Mk II items.)
  • Fairly crowded "farming" areas relative to the number of anomalies in the area. (Though this will decrease over time as people level beyond certain regions.)
  • A lack of clear information from NPCs in Memory Alpha
  • A lack of diversity in item type and quality
  • A lack of diversity in item usage (IE pre-ordered skill lists for bridge officers rather than allowing them to use kits making kits essentially worthless)

Now I find out that common quality items for Mk IV crafting are -drop only-, which means I have to rely on a questionable loot table, and go farm Klingons for several hours hoping to find one or two items I can actually use?

I am inclined to think that this was a very poorly thought out system, and needs a fix. The obvious solution would be to put vendors in who carry the various Mk IV weapons and shields.

-CONSTRUCTIVE- Player feedback appreciated.

No, you can buy them. I bought new phaser banks and torpedos last night from the T2 vendor. There are also rare quality items you can buy at the Earth station with exploration badges. Aside from that, Ive personally been inundated with mark IV drops both in space and on the ground. Seems very random.

I'm not getting ANY gear drops anymore. I had to buy all my Mk IV stuff with exploration badges, and it was very tedious to do.

I think I got my engine from a drop, actually, but other than that, all the drops I'm getting are provisions and batteries. I'd rather not have drops at all than get teased with that junk.

At least for me, it seems very random. I'll have whole play sessions where all I seem to get is junk. Then I'll do one fleet action and get a rare console and an uncommon console within a minute or so.

Ummm...could you please clarify what you mean by the 'T2 vendor' ? Where is it at? Because I've looked at all the SBs in 4 blocks, and have not found a SINGLE common mk IV ship item for sail. The only thing I'm finding is the Ferengi in Regulas and Sirius that sell the ground weapons...

If it's Mk IV drops your looking for try doing DSE's in Alpha Centauri. It also helps if you are in a fleet to get your fleetmates involved by putting the items you need into the fleet bank. We have a couple designated crafters who are crafting T5 items already.

You can buy Mk IV and VI stuff as a Klingon.
Mail it to your Fed then and you are good to go. Unlocked the Mk VIII and X Science stuff yesterday with Deflector Arrays Mk VI which I bought with my Klingon. The NPC is in the shipyard on Qo'nos (don't know if there are more).
