Heres my issue with bridge view as is: its cool, but useless. And for those that only have a limited amount of time to play, its actually a waste of time. That said, travel time in sector space is something you HAVE to do. That being the case, why not allow players to be in bridge view WHILE they travel in sector space? It would allow people to enjoy their ship's bridge while waiting to reach their location.
I'm not sure I'd call that trivially cosmetic. I'd call that "delivering on the dream people have always had of sitting on the bridge of their Enterprise flying through space." The more Cryptic can deliver on the dreams and desires of long time Trek fans the longer the game will last. With or without Klingon PVP. But that's just my view.
I'm with you on this one. I thought this was going to be a big part of the game. allow us to perhaps access a crew members skills and items by talking to them. I hoping they eventually allow a lot more ship access.

Content goes far longer for a game than cosmetic. Only reason WOW, EQ, and LOTRO last as long is fresh content.
If you played Klingon faction, ITS really that bad as far as content, bork missions, and outfit clipping issues.
Don't get me wrong though, I do agree with OP, even to go as far as the game Bridge Commander. Even cool in battles to have NPC boarding parties on your bridge.
If Atari/Cryptic went aggressive and strategically enhanced the game with different game aspects many of the threads suggest, over a period of 1-2 years....STO can easily kill WOW and give SWTOR a run. Bug Free Game content however needs to be top priority at all times though.
I agree wholeheartedly !
I've been thinking about the very same idea when I first accessed the bridge view.
It'd go a long way towards a proper immersion.
I'd prefer they add actual physical content to the game (eg Klingon PvE) before they waste time on something so trivially cosmetic.
While I agree that Klingon PvE should be the first priority, that doesnt mean they cant work on small things along the way(like fixing BO uniforms for one). As far as this particular issue goes, consider the fact that the bridge is already in game. Now imagine if they simply allowed us to bring up the map interface while on the bridge and set a course to whatever system we want to go to, and then we simply 'travel" at the same speed we normally would in sector space.
I don't think they will ever be able to do this, as they chose probably the worst engine imaginable to do a space game. Your bridge is not part of or anywhere in your ship, its a seperate instance, a smallish map just the same as a planetary surface, or starbase you beam too. Its why when you go to your bridge from any location, you always go right back to that location, instead of in your ship in space.
The problem is that basically, to get a bridge view like most of us want, the current system is totally unusable. You can't load two entirely seperate maps/instances (sector space and your bridge) at the same time, let alone both avatars.

I'm not sure it would even be possible in STO. As it is, your ship and your avatar do not exist at the same time; you only have one or the other. If you are on your bridge, then you are not in sector space; therefore you cannot travel anywhere.
Still, it would be nice if Cryptic can find a way to work it in; never know.

No. They need to make PvP actually matter. Make it exciting (death penalty, and real rewards for winning), we're supposed to be at war, so why can't klingons or federation players openly engage one another? The sector map is perfect for this. Have conquerable systems, too.

Keep in mind that I'm not talking about combat, just movement here. And for that matter, it could simply be simulated movement. If the game could just track the course and speed of your ship on its current course, then it could just display moving stars(like at warp) while you are on the bridge and simply alert you when you arrive at the system you were heading to.
Mhm... mmmm...
It's hard for me to articulate my thoughts on this point.
I agree and I don't. How's that?
I would like to see the bridge as a replacement for Sector Space. BUT. And it's a big "but". It needs to be very functional.
It needs to include the ability to see Sector Space, preferably as a sensor readout. It needs to let you see nearby ships and, if you're away from that view, some notification of nearby enemies.
Okay... that's all I have articulated at the moment. The viewscreen having a starfield suffices for me.
While this would be fantastic, I agree with other posters - I don't believe it's technically feasible due to the game engine being used.
Maybe in the interim though, they could have maximum zoom in go to a point slightly in front of the ship (rather than slightly behind as it is now) so we can at least fly in first person view (and maybe force a zoom out for combat or something?)

This would actually solve a few problems people have with the game in its current state.
Still wish the bridges were shrunk around 25%
Very strange seeing bridges that immense.
Had this same exact thought, lol, was about to post it as I saw yours.

ehh?? sorry but that made no sense at all!!
