Why won't my Klingon Bridge Officer use his Bat'leth?

As the subject states, why won't my Klingon Bridge Officer use his Bat'leth?

He's a Lieutenant Commander with a Bat'leth Mk IV. When we go into battle, he just stands around using his powers and won't attack anyone.

Any ideas?

Tell him that only cowards and Feds use range? :p A REAL Klingon uses his bat'leth.

Melee for BO's seems to be bugged at the moment except for a good ol' rifle butt to the face. They won't engage if unarmed, or armed with a melee weapon that I've noticed, and (not sure about this as I swapped these skills out some time ago) won't use melee ground skills like lunge or legsweep either.

are you sure you don't have him set to passive? Check he has a wee cross box to the left of his portrait and not a circle thingy (click to change between the 2).

I have seen my Tac BO use leg sweep more than once. Never equipped them with hand to hand weapons so not sure about this though.

I keep all of my BO's on aggressive. There are other posts that have noted the same thing, though with unarmed BO's rather than melee weapons. Nice to know at least they are using melee powers when they have them

Yeah, ive noticed this. You give a melee weapon to a BO (I tried a batleth with my saurian feddy tac officer) and she just stood there. Worse, when I unequiped the batleth and gave her back her rifle, she still stood there. It required me to abort the mish and beam back in to 'reset' her behavior. It would be nice to have BOs use batleths, then I could see the point in investing in a tac officer's melee related skills (Lunge, leg sweep, etc) Plus, nowadays I seem to run into npcs with shield ratings that require my entire pack to focus fire on them, while a nice melee weapon'd officer in close range would be useful in whittling away health through shields.

I tried giving my BOF all melee powers and giving him a batleth. He used it intermittently. So I started using it instead. Basically the AI for it doesn't seem to work.

I noticed the same with mine...my Klingon BO wouldn't use his Bat'leth much and spent most of combat crouching. I pulled it off him and gave him a rifle back.

exact same problem. Is this a known bug that is being fixed? Has anyone heard anything from the devs?

My BO is just sitting there crouched, not using the bat'leth at all.

Yeah, he crouches a lot and uses his skills, but won't fight with his bat'leth.

I guess its a bug, but have we heard such from Cryptic? I hope they fix it soon. Would love to have my Klingon Tac Officer be a ground tank while the rest of us are range.

Yes, it's quite frustrating. I spent quite a few merits and credits (buying a nice blue officer with melee stats) to set up my tac officer to be a melee machine, promoted them up to Commander and everything, just to have them crouch and pretend to be exposed and get completely ignored.

    bleh.

Yea, I've tested this on NPC party members, on both sides (red/blue) and it's all bugged. If you want some one to melee, equip it yourself, otherwise they just run around doing nothing. (melee weapons and skills)

Melee AI is broken. Just as much as pathfinding is broken.

If you're lucky, and if you have a BO standing right next to you and an opponent in melee, he might swing at him. Might.

So yes, your BOs won't use melee weapons unless you're in melee range as well. And even then it's a roll of the dice.

Why would anyone still use a sword in space - what is this Star Wars? j/k :P

But how does one get a klingon sword into the hands of a Fed? Can I mail one from my Klingon toon to my Fed toon? That would seem odd to me. I haven't seen one drop though.

    Simple, the exchange

One thing of note, is when you crouch, your whole team crouches... including someone with melee weapons.

Easy, it bypasses personal shields. I can't tell you how many times I was sitting their minding my own business shooting up someone, and a Swordmaster comes up and fillets me in seconds flat even though my shield was full.

Made dealing with the Swordmasters much easier when I started up my Orion character. Instead of shooting him, I cut him up! :D

What I did was grab an old item off of my ship that sold for about 1k energy credits (or send weapons or stuff) over the mail to my Orion (just put @Radkip in my mail and it sent it to her instantly), picked up and sold the item, bought a Bat'leth MK IV, and mailed it back to my Federation character.

i think the reason is ...batleths were intended to be used in pvp and BO's weren't intended to use them ?

    just my guess..

Or, you can buy them from the weapon vendor on DS9.

There are melee skills for BO and they do not use those skills either. AI is horribly broken and you cant really say that Bat'leths were not intended for BO's because the whole mess is broken.

I would like to suggest that one of the Dev's volenteer to work exclusively on the ground combat AI issues. This is only going to get fixed by a dedicated person who takes on the responsibility. This will not be fixed by a commitee of dabbliers each looking at it for a little while and making a few changes.
