Yes. Had that. Mine were Visa Electron and Visa Debit labelled. Even got a call from my bank asking if it was me who made so many failed payments with them... which was thoughtful!

"Please wait while we process your request."
    then:
"Your payment method was declined. Please verify the information you have provided is correct. If you believe this is an error, please try another payment method or contact us for support here."

No luck here yet either, same message
So I "contact us for support here", called support and was helped correctly, but nothing solved as the operater told me he saw no problem from his end. So I told him I'd be setting up PayPal and check with my bank.
My bank confirmed that my credit card is still good.
Setting up PayPal takes many days (ages), duh...
It's been days and i keep trying in the hope that STO's subscription thing will accept my credit card, untill PayPal is ready (and hope that will work, cos some posts didn't seem positive about that either)
I play(ed) Everquest 1 and 2, swg; they are all SoE and never had problems paying them (in fact, I never had payment problems with my credit card anywhere before)

I help run a fairly large eCommerce website, and in the past issues like this for us have turned out to be related to server certificates for the major cards [at least thats what my devs told me! :D].

doubt a PayPal account would help you

    - the first thing it does when I try to pay via my PayPal account is ask for a credit card - you cannot pay via a PayPal account that isn't linked to a credit card :(

So you'd likely get the same issue again

Make sure you are using a CREDIT card, and not a Named DEBIT card. While they have the same logo, they act in different ways.

Some billing companies may very well accept those, but others wont.

I had the same problem, and I solved it by using entropay virtual credit card (google it). I can't guarantee that it will work for you, but it worked fine for me. ;)

This is the first mmo I've tried to play that will not take my "named debit card". The whole point of me HAVING said "named debit card" is for the purpose of online usage, which I have been able to do on all sites that I have so far tried... except this one.
I hope they remedy this issue soon for my sake and their own (but mostly for mine :D) because "Debit Visas, and Debit Mastercards are very rapidly becoming the standard here" (direct quote from primary bank employee).
Why risk stuffing up your personal credit if you don't need to?

If the payment was declined, then thats due to your bank, not to cryptic.

Really, I suggest u check other posts, because as in many other mentioned cases, the issue has been cryptic not accepting the card it's self, yet I have just noticed that they have been happy to nibble out small $1ish amounts from my account every time I have tried to submit my correct card details. I, as have many other, have already spoken to my back.

I got a similar problem, except it occured when I deleted my payment method by accident as I was going to cancel my subscription. Now when I try to add it back in, it says 'Your payment method was declined.' and just only that, nothing else. I tried four times and I have typed it in all correct, but without any result. I use the same VISA card as before, but it wont accept the info again. :(

EDIT: Now it says this after 5 tries: Your payment method was declined. Please verify the information you have provided is correct. If you believe this is an error, please try another payment method or contact us for support here.

    I mean what gives?

so does that mean that STO doesn't want our buisness at all and our money is no good to them if its a visa debit instead of credit? well that just sounds stupid to me, but if they would rather i bring my buissness elsewhere so be it, less money they will get from all of us who dont like to use or dont have credit cards. i guess i will just never purchase any products from you again but i thats the stupidest thing ever to suddenly decline it when you accepted it the first time to activate.. i think anyone who you ripped off like that deserves a refund and im going to be looking into the more specific laws for false advertisement and selling people products that under these circumstances 'do not work as is' which under every law i know of acording to the united states is very illegal and i think every single one of us should take u to court and get all of our money back.

I have also had the same problems. was using my bank account to pay my STO account until Nov 2010. got a new bank card, cancelled my old card on STO and put new detials in for new card, which is a Visa Debit. automatically the sys declined payment. contacted support, they show very little concern, the excuse's I have had are (1) CVN/CW number wrong, Visa Debit in the UK or GB is a 3 digit code not 4 as indicated by USA and CS webiste. (2) my Country code is GB not United Kingdom, which is a problem caused by there Automated system not me.
    (3) My bank is blocking them from taking payment which my bank denies, even though I have tried 25+ times. the tester payments from CS go through but according to my bank, CS refuse to take payment.

The problem I'm sorry to say is lying with the CS and it's automated system, which apparntly can not be sorted by CS, I agree that they must have a head ache but if I can go to online games like EVE, WOW, Starwars Galaxies and make payments without problems, then why can I not go to CS and do the same using my Visa Debit card?

I sympathise with you also Thorp, the exact same has happened to me since November, I was given a new Visa Debit card so I tried to change the details and I got the Payment Declined error and I fought for 2 weeks with my bank and Cryptic and was told the same it was my CVN number or my address blah blah eventually my bank handed the issue over to their Fraud department as so many attempts had been made, when i made Cryptic aware of this my card details disappeared from my account and received no further help so i ended up going and getting a Mastercard and guess what same issue on that card and again all the excuses that it's my bank blah blah and the other bank confirmed nothing wrong with the card.

I ended up emailing Stormshade regarding the issue and at the same time a very helpful person on billing support looked into my issue and thought they had fixed it but today when it was supposed to re-sub off my card it hasn't gone through so i've contacted Stormshade again and billing support and getting them to investigate again.

I'm not setting up a paypal account as i hear too many horror stories regarding paypal and i'm not buying time cards as all i want to do is setup a subscription and forget about it and i'm defaintly not dropping £200 on the lifetime when no one knows when the game will go free to play.

Think the tech heads at cryptic / Atari need to look at these posts which keep popping up regarding the payment system and actually fix it or move to another system as players who are affected will vote with their feet and leave the game.

As i'm a Major Incident / Problem manager for a huge financial bank in the UK I could probaly determine the root cause to their issue in a few hours, so I'd like to see if the people that are affected are from the UK and countries outwith the USA, so if your affected put down what card your using and the country your from and lets pull together as a community and do Cryptic's tech support on this issue.

If your in discussions with billing support point them to this thread also as I would like to see this issue resolved.

Same issue for me today. I've been using the same Visa Debt Card issued from my bank with Star Trek Online since launch. I go to buy Atari Tokens today, and I get the declined, all info needs verified red box. I check my information, make sure all my info is correct, submit it, and it tells me my Payment info is updated successfully, which the system verifies that your using a real card. I go back to purchase the Atari Tokens, and again the Red Box.

I contact the Live Support chat, and they tell me my bank is declining the charge from Cryptic Studios. I call my bank, they tell me that there is no problem at all with my card, verify my recent transactions, as I have no problem whatsoever with using my card all over the internet, and my city, and my bank informs me that for every time I click submit, and was declined to purchase the Atari Tokens, they however successfully charged my account a dollar $$$ for every attempt. I Contact Live Support again, inform them that my bank has no issue at all, and will accept charges from Cryptic Studios, and the new Customer Service Associate I deal with tells me that their "Automated" system is not verifying my information/declining my card. He tells me I should use another payment method, Paypal, ect, the same old run around answers. When I ask why is there not an issue with charging me $1 for every attempt, and it reading as "Champions Online" on my account, he tells me it's a temperary hold, and that it will be refunded.

Now.... I've been with Cryptic since the old City of Heroes days, I've subscribed to Champions, and I've been with Star Trek Online for well over a year, since Beta. I bought multiple copies of Star Trek Online for the Pre-Order bonuses, and to help support the Game, I've made numerous purchases via the Cryptic Store. I feel this has something to do with the recent Atari Token change. I know the problem is not with my bank, and it is a problem with Atari/Cryptic, and this very well may cause me to leave the game.

I've tried looking in to how I would use Paypal, as the CSR from Live chat suggested, but I don't see anything directing me to establish a Paypal Account for payment via the My Account tab on the Website. All it asks for is credit cards.

Seriously... why hasn't there been any response to this by a Cryptic Team Member? I can only think how many customers are having this problem, and haven't taken the time to contact support, or check the forums, and just quit all together.

I pay my subscription via PayPal, when I go to my account I can use the "Change this subscription" option under "Subscriptions". On this page there is an option to "Enter a new Credit Card payment method" and beneath this is "Pay with PayPal", selecting the PayPal option allows a person to pay via PayPal and the Credit Card Information entry text box's are replaced with PayPal Information text box's.

I hope this answers your query. And sorry to everyone who is having payment problems... I'd hate to miss out on STO.

I also have problem when I attemp to subscript.

Could it cause by one of this.
    -I haven't validate my e-mail address.
-Incorrect Billing address language (English or my language?).
-I live outside US and Europe (Since there are no single word of "ASIA" in subscript option page).
-Problem with browser (I use google chrome).

WOW!!!! So I go and try Firefox, and wouldn't you know it, my purchase went through no problems! It is an Internet Explorer issue, not my Card, or the Website. Someone should nform the people at Live Support, because they don't have a clue, and who knows how many people are quiting the game over this.

Thank you so much for replying to the thread, and letting us know to try FireFox!

So i've just purchase STO and I cant even play it. My credit card keeps getting decline. Nothing wrong on my end. I tried opening a ticket and it keeps telling me that I need to select a language. Umm dont know what that means, as i cant find anything that might suggest that i can even choose a language. From what i can see cryptic isnt being very helpful with this situation. Id honestly just like money back for the game at this point.
Ive also attempted to use 2 different credit cards. I called the credit card companies and they say theres nothing on thier end. From what i can see here in this forum others have done the same thing. So quite obviously its a problem on cyptics end. I had also purchased Champions online awhile back using the same payment method and it went though fine for that game. Some response would be appreciated.

you are not going to get any billing answers on the fourm. billing does not even look at the forums. you might try using the online chat when it is up since you are having problems creating a ticket to billing.

    http://www.atari.com/support/startrekonline#help
note you have to login at the site page with your game account beofre being able to create a ticket.

Yes, they would have, because we check if there is a bank account connected. You'll also see that the 1$ (or 1€) will bounce back to your account.

However, please do not bump up old threads. Start a new one if you have a question or concern about PC and Technical issues and please note that Billing questions cannot be answered on the forums.

    Thank you!
