I have been playing this game for awhile now, and one thing that has annoyed me severely is the fact that I can have only one front facing and one rear facing weapon on auto-fire. I understand that this single auto-fire option was implimented during Beta, but only for single front and rear. What I propose is we have the option to have them all on auto-fire if we want. I tried setting up a macro for myself where I could just press one button and have all my primary weapons on autofire, but it will not work for me, and having to press the fire button over and over again is really annoying.
If you agree to the idea of having the option to put all turrets on auto-fire, and not just one for the front and one for the rear, please sign and tell anyone you know about this thread. If you disagree, please say so and why, and ask anyone you know to visit this thread.
Hopefully enough of us agree with me, and we get full auto-fire. I have carpaltunnel symptoms, and pressing the spacebar to fire bothers me. This is the main reason I am starting this thread, so please do not think of me as lazy, because I want this change as more of a convenience for those of us with carpaltunnel symptoms or full blown carpaltunnel.
Thank you, and please sign below please regardless of if you agree or disagree. Just say why if you disagree.
Ran 3 or 4 fleet actions last night and had cramp in my hand from constantly mashing the space bar down. I agree it's not the way you have to play, you can time it right and hit it less but in the middle of a frantic fleet action and steering your ship mashing the key always wins
Good god! Push a button! If the game does everything for you then why play? It takes a little (minimal) intelligence to push the right button at the right time, that's about all the thought you have to put into it.
If it's that much of a burden get someone to play for you!

Pushing the same button over, and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over isn't about intelligence. It's simply a convenience thing.

would indeed be a good thing to have the option to choose wich weapons you want on auto fire....keeping track of 14+ timers and maneuvering your ship at the same time requiers you to have atleast a very alien like hand to reach all the corresponding hot keys
I 100% agree. There is no reason every weapon, space or ground, should not have autofire. Whether it's useful or not is another question, but there is no reason not to have it.
If a strategic element of timing is lost, then so be it. Add some other strategic element to compensate.
While we're at it, please add a feature than flies around ships for me, without having to click A and D all the time, and turning my ship with the mouse.
Gosh, turning my ship is too annoying. I wish it was automated.
Now that I think about it, let us also have a thing that levels up for us, so we dont have to click those darn skill buttons and skill up.
Heck, just automate the entire game for us so that we can go watch some TV while the game plays itself. That would the best solution by far. I am tired of playing the game. I want the game to play itself for me.
Just personal taste, but I hate auto-fire and have never used it. The most notable reason being it causes some noob to pull mobs, causing wipes. So anyone using it could have a not so fun time once raiding starts.
It was demonstrated in the STO end of beta event, when some noob Feds kept shooting the Klingon players that were trying to assist in the Borg invation. The chat was full off, "STOP SHOOTING THE KLINGONS", only to be followed by "I can't, its auto-firing".
While agree the option would of course be nice in the name of "Freedom of Choice", it's use would be rather limited at higher levels when somewhat more tactical gameplay is prefereable, if not required - at least in space. It really does make a difference if one holds off that High Yield torpedo barr
The skill system in this game desn't make the regular firing obsolete.
Comparing to other "modern" MMOs where you just skillspam and have something like "Auto Attack", wich deals a small ammount of dmg.Well It's all about skill spamming there so of course the 'aa' is automated.
However in this mmo, your "Auto Attacks" get modified by skills (High yield / Fire at will etc) so literally speaking smashing spacebar is not even remotely compareable to auto attacks (thus being NOT automated). You don't need to be in control of ALL your phaser banks and torpedo at higher tiers, that's why there is limited autofire aviable.
This feels like a cry over for the sake of it. Would it help if shooting was the '1' Key, or maybe 2 and 3 like everyone seems used to from his old mmo, spamming dots mapped to 1 - 3.
Cause there is really no difference here, you are bound to smash certain buttons unless the whole "skill" system ist changed.
in short " WOW didn't let me smash spacebar, i smashed '1', gimme '1'..oh noes buttonz are ebil. Make it automated so i don't have to script a macro myself or buy a g15. Speaking of it, where are my downloadable community macros wich do everything for me?
if your constantly mashing the space bar, then you are doing something wrong, because everything is on timers.
I'm currently running a turret setup with my T3 cruiser (just wanted to try it out, turns out it's actually quite effective). I have 5 turrests mounted. Hitting the space bar (fire all beams), fires 3-4 of them, not -all- like it's supposed to. So, to get the stragglers to fire, I have to hit the space bar 2-3 times for one firing cycle. Add to that the fact that turrets have a 2 second refire cooldown, this equates to me having to spam the button to actually get all my beams to fire.
Yes, I have EPS consoles fitted, and my weapon power never goes below 40, so it's not a power issue.
In all your raid games where you raid and pull boss aggro because you're a noob... they have auto attack.
Just wanted to point that out for you.
In the options there is an option to disable auto attack upon target change. This means you will never accidentally switch targets and pull aggro. And to be honest, if you're cycling targets and not paying attention, you're just as likely to keep mashing the space bar anyway, therefore making this a moot point.
No one is asking to make this game Eve, or to automate all of combat, we are simply asking to not have to mash the space bar all the time.
Tap the space bar once, attack on, tap the space bar a second time, attack off. I would love to see an episode of trek, where Worf is sitting at his console just mashing on it non stop, then it cuts to a scene if the enterprise firing phasers at a Bird of Prey. then back to Worf still furiously mashing his console. That would be hilarity.
In summary Noobs are Noobs, and unless cryptic wants to get in the business of replacing keyboards with broken spacebars, they should implement auto fire.
Let's have autofire for most/all weapon slots, but with diminishing returns. The in-universe explanation could be increased power requirements to synchronize the regulator flow through the EPS conduits to the weapons systems, so the damage/energy ratio is less efficient (or some other technobabble). Something like:
Instead of decreasing damage, maybe it could be increased power usage, so that one can only autofire for so long before the ship runs out of weapons power:
Maybe the additional autofire slots have to be forward/aft positions depending on the vessel type (i.e. escorts more likely to be in forward, cruisers more evenly spread, and science in aft). And of course, maybe some items can be introduced to mitigate (but not negate) the decreasing damage or increased power usage.
Basically, provide the option to use autofire for most/all weapon slots, but provide a material advantage to those who prefer to use "skill" that comes more and more evident in longer battles and/or higher tier ships, if all other things remain equal (i.e. an autofire T5 cruiser vs. non-autofire T5 cruiser with same config/stats and players/NPCs of the same stats/ability should more likely result in the non-autofire winning).
We have machine guns today, you pull the trigger once, and it fires until it runs out of bullets. In any military situation the military is going to try to find ways to put the maximum firepower down range as possible, while maintaining accuracy. With the advanced computer cores presumed to be aboard these starships, the computer should be able to more accurately than a human target, time, and fire any number of weapons. This is supported in the shows, just ask Data!
maybe we could assign our BO's to do the shooting, with various bonus's or penalty's depedning who's doing the shooting. Isnt that why they are there ? i just want to shout orders at em, lol, and some kinda penalty for the number which are assigned, the more guns on auto, the greater the penalty

You make it sound like auto firing all weapons makes an advantage to game play?
Whereas it does not. You say in the above 'who prefer to use the "skill" that comes'
What skill is that? Pressing the space bar? rofl, dude there is no skill in pressing a button.
The only skill in space combat is lining up your ship to whereever you want it to be. Pressing space bar does not add to the skill of doing this, it is just an destraction that we can do with out.

I'm not comparing today's technology with Star Trek technology; I was trying to put into in-universe words a proposal for a compromise between what Cryptic has obviously wants autofire to be like (at this time) with what most people in this thread is asking for. Feel free to suggest a different rationalization for this if it seem so "unreal" to you; I'm sure it would be more "realistic" than I wrote up.

Like I replied above to someone else, Cryptic is obviously under the belief that autofire for only 2 slots is best, and we can speculate all we want why this is the case. I propose a compromise between what's currently implemented with the full autofire that some are asking for.
I'm not convinced pressing a button is a "skill" (why do you think I put it in quotes?) relative to one's success in space combat, but I'm also equally under the belief that Cryptic thinks it is. Again, we can speculate all we want why (maybe they feel it's important to provide a feel of control over one's starship like they think a captain should have, or it's to distract us from a lack of depth in space combat, or because they hold a significant amount of shares in Logitech and other keyboard manufacturers).
My speculation is that what you find as a "destraction" in the gameplay is probably why Cryptic thinks as "immersion" into the game, hence why only partial autofire. As a combat-oriented game (hopefully it will change a bit later on), Cryptic probably thinks people want to push buttons to do stuff to kill things as with many other games involving combat (space, ground, or whatever), the "skill" of pushing the right button(s) at the right time(s) makes a difference to success in the game. So I stand by my suggestion as middle-ground between what we have and what some want.

Uh... you can auto-fire one weapon?? How?
If it's that much of a burden get someone to play for you!

you have one autofire for both ends and that should be all you need, being able to atleast autofire all beams would be nice though,
Pushing the same button over, and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over isn't about intelligence. It's simply a convenience thing.

I bind multiple weapons to one key through the software provided by this little baby...

Save the spacebars!
3 total weapon slots = 2 autofire slots @ 100% (regular) weapons damage
4 total weapon slots = 2 autofire slots @ 100% / 1 autofire slot @ 80%
5 total weapon slots = 3 autofire slots @ 100% / 1 autofire slot @ 80%
6 total weapon slots = 3 autofire slots @ 100% / 1 autofire slot @ 80% / 1 autofire slot @ 70%

Someone who hasnt advanced past Lt. I see. Only one fore and aft weapon can be set to autofire currently, not enough imo.
If two weapons are allowed to auto, why not all? I have not seen a single dev response on this yet or a valid reason why it would not work.
Just make it so cryptic!
