I just want to say. That when I was beta testing this game. I liked it and you guys seemed to be motivated enough to make this game great. But as of late I'am becoming very dissapointed in the quality of the product. You have charged many people money for a game that you can not even keep online for more than 2 hours at a pop. and then your down for 2-3 hours for some unplanned maintenance.
I know people are going to flame this thread saying nonsense like that is to be expected. Well those people are ignorant and just plain stupid, and obviously have no clue. You guys have basically taken peoples money and released a game that can not even be properly played. It was mentioned many times through out beta that this game was no where near ready for final release yet you guys released it anyway. You dont even give proper communication when the servers do come down. Just telling us unexpected maintenace is not good customer service. We are paying to play the game. Not paying to keep the servers off line. I have beta tested many many games in the last 15 years and this is by far the worst launch I have ever seen.
I thought Beta testing was exactly for this kind of stuff. For you guys to get all the bugs worked out and actually release a quality product. But I guess its all just a marketing scam to get people to spend their money. You can not tell me that you did not know this game was going to draw a huge fan base. This game is a good year away from being a final release game. I would expect some kind of compensation for all this down time.
Now for the people who are going to flame this thread because their to stupid to see when they are being duped. Yes I know all games go through this. BUT they only go throughn this cause of morons who don't have the balls to stand up for them selves when they are being taken advantage of. Well its time to get a grip and wake up and smell the coffee. When you go to a store and make a purchase of a product. You expect it to work plain and simple.
I wish I had tried Champions online.... then I would have learned my lesson STO was going to be garbage.
I don't believe its garbage. I just saying they should have fixed the bugs before going to final release. The idea behind the game is awesome, and the client base has the potential to be huge. But they can't sell a product and then not have it playable and you never do patches and maintenance on a weekend. thats just plain assinine.
I don't have a problem w/your post actually, and yes I hate saying it but MMO experience does count (this is my 12th one for example, and ALL have been elite power games too, not that WoW TRIBBLE we're talking every SOE game [ever] along w/EvE, AoC, Champions Online, AION and yes I'll admit it, even Tabula Rasa). There is a balance between releasing a relatively polished and ready product (it doesn't need to be PERFECT but it should be ready to roll out to the general public without ****ing them off en masse) and between recovering some invested funds so you can reinvest in patches and hardware, new content, etc (via pre/post launch box sales).
Seriousy, it's not JUST the server either, beta testers are playing a VERY different game @ launch (and not in the good/classic way you'd want or expect. It's toned way down, too easy [perfect for the 'Where's Sulu" crowd probably, wtf] and VERY very canned...missions ARE cut & paste @ the developer level [c'mon admit it] and the game is VERY VERY VERY VERY small, I mean VERY small. Guys, this is STAR TREK! It's almost as sad [already] as when SWG went through the NGE! How can ANY game lover or general fan want ANYTHING as big as Star Wars or Star Trek to be ANYTHING but TOTALLY AWESOME! You can NOT dicker around w/something as epic as Star Trek or Star Wars, you have to bring your A-game people)!!!
Truth, plain and simple truth (that last sentence above, admit it).

Are you going to pay them to fix the bugs? Of course not... the publishers and investors pocket the monthly fees. They ONLY support the game to save their own reputations and most of the time out of pocket. I would support Cryptic 100% if they had not sold out to Atari.
Well, can not hardly say anythjing else than what i have said earlier here and of other gamees out there.
When Atari is involved, unfinished products do come out.
I hear ya there and I agree. All the gaming companys are doing it and thats the problem. It won't stop till the community finally grows a pair and start demanding the product that they payed for.
I know people are going to flame this thread saying nonsense like that is to be expected. Well those people are ignorant and just plain stupid, and obviously have no clue.
How are people stupid for pointing out a fact of the industry? Also, no need to exaggerate the downtime.
You guys have basically taken peoples money and released a game that can not even be properly played. It was mentioned many times through out beta that this game was no where near ready for final release yet you guys released it anyway.
1.) Personally, I think the game is quite playable and even rather fun -- when the servers are up, of course.
2.) Blaming Cryptic for the release date is rather disingenuous. Release dates are often the decisions of the publishers. And don't say "well Cryptic should've told Atari..." because they didn't, they shouldn't and the smart business move would be to just keep quiet, nod your head and do what your publisher tells you.

Then you've not seen many launches. Or you're full of [redacted]. Furthermore, what would you like Cryptic to tell you when there is an unexpected downtime? Would you like a full report on what exactly brought the game down for this unexpected downtime? I would imagine that unless the developers are psychics... which would be awesome... they don't know what's wrong with the game and that's why they're scrambling to figure it out.

The beta test was a chance for the devs to test the servers and fix any major bugs. These major bugs, for the most part, have been remedied though there are still a couple of missions that have issues. As far as a launch MMO is concerned, STO is quite polished by comparison.
You can not tell me that you did not know this game was going to draw a huge fan base. This game is a good year away from being a final release game. I would expect some kind of compensation for all this down time.
I expect a lot of things in life. You will learn to eventually lower your expectations. Apart from this, the more people you have using a product like STO at any given time, the more difficult it is to predict how the server will react. I summarize this in my signature.

They go through this because of technology. If you are saying that the users should rise up and revolt against their computer overlords, I'm with you. But in context to this MMO and MMOs in general, this is just how it goes. Again, explained in the sig.
Well its time to get a grip and wake up and smell the coffee. When you go to a store and make a purchase of a product. You expect it to work plain and simple.
Apart from the server downtime, which is expected around launch time whether you like it or not, I've rather enjoyed myself.
...then again, I wasn't one of these nitwits who purchased five copies of the game to get a bunch of in-game TRIBBLE I don't really need.

It's not our responsibility to pay for them to fix the bugs. its their responsibility to make sure they are taken care of. I payed for a game to play the game. Not sit in these forums looking for their excuses as to why I can not play at this time.

Neither did I purchase five games. I purchased one and it is not unreasonable to expect to beable to play, and for your information the downtime I stated is no where near over exagerated.
To Cryptic in case they read the OP's drivel: I love the game, don't change a thing, keep on rolling, and I don't mind about the downtime, I know it was a hectic first week.
To all the strange similar people in this thread: I was in beta, and the game has done nothing but improve. These thinly disguised justifications to complain because the server is down are an affront to civil discourse. Do you really think they don't want the servers to be up? Do you have any idea of what's involved in running a server farm for a hundred concurrent users, let alone a thousand, or ten thousand, or however many users Cryptic is trying to support (easily hundreds of thousands)?
The server is up far more than it is down. There is the occasional downtime. It's already gotten a lot better and will continue to improve.

Um yes I do and if the servers were down like this where I work. I would be out of a job.
The main problem for me is that when the servers go down, which is quite a lot, my mission progress doesn't frickin save! Also, space DOES feel like a little instanced box. That better be some content patch you've said is coming out in 40 days.

They are called logs. They can find out why something went down immediatlety after the incedent happens and yes I do expect some kind of report. Being as I'am a paying customer for this service I have that right.
