Ok this is just my view. Not bash just some thoughts..
first of all I am starting to have flashbacks to Star Wars Galaxies at this point.
I realize its only been live for a few days but come on already.. did the "open" beta and pre-launch not show the most common of issues? I swear to god if you guys issue me a plaque that reads "i survived the initial week" or some such like SWG did then Im out lol
Next the game has some bugs, all do anymore upon release but wow you guys missed some major ones. QA? are they hiring? I have no exp at all, so maybe i would fit right in.
The newb starter mission thing whatever.. AoC may suck but they have the right idea about newb tutorials. The entire thing shouls be a single player instance. Sorry but i hate trying to learn the system to have someone run by and shoot all the targets and force me to wait for a respawn. 1 star out of 5 there
Graphics.. In the immortal words of Ceaser.. Nice. Not thrilling... but nice. Player models and general ground stuff looks like a 5 year old FPS. Just not impressed. Spacve is a little better but to be honest so far I am so busy mashing buttons that i don't seem to have time to admire anything.
over all game play... I am a vetern of many MMORPGs. EQ1 and 2, WoW, SWG, AoC, AO, DAoC to name just a few. This by far is the most complicated. I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing yet. At first glance I am over whelmed but as I learn its getting a little easier. I just hope it continues that trait otherwise its just going to be too much to keep track of and the fun level is going to drop.
Conent.. did I miss a memo? was'nt there supposed to be a lot more stuff for launch? Im not talking a few thigns here it seems like half the stuff i read and went "WOW!" about is not here..what happened there?
I wish the servers were up so I could play instead of critique. But these are my views on the game so far. I love the idea of a Star Trek MMO. I WANT so much to enjoy it. I really pray that the few hours i have spent have just been a weak prelude to a much better game. I guess we'll see... when the severs are working. Wait sorry.. let me rephrase. SERVER.
back up? maybe add another? just a thought guys.
This is the most complicated? Damn .. were all the MMO's you played games that did everything for you? As in, you never had to touch the keyboard? I say that because, this isn't a really hard game to grasp. There's a button that shoots your weapons in space. There's a button that shifts your shields around if you're dying. When you're on the ground .. there's a button that shoots your phaser .. and a secondary mode that also shoots your phaser, but has an effect. You get some bridge officers, but they wean you into that a little at a time .. honestly, I have no idea what is so daunting about playing STO that's so confusing.
I'll give you, it's a little bit more complex than WoW .. but really, that was the simplest game this side of Candyland. The Oregon Trail game I has for my Apple II GS required more thought than playing WoW .. lest I have people die from dysentary.
Maybe it would help you to create another character, and go back through the tutorial again .. maybe there's a few things that you missed that will make the game a little easier. Just a thought. Personally, I don't subscribe to the "Constantly doing the same mission over and over to get expz". I find that stupid. Star Trek is about exploring, so I only do a mission once, regardless of if it's repeatable or not. That could also help .. because I've noticed that as I do other missions, I'm told more things about the game and gameplay itself. That might help you too.
