The title says it all, of all the things we do indeed just have to tolerate by playing a massive online game, the ONE thing, the one barest minimum agreement/understanding between customer and provider, is that we at least get to play the game. It's the provider equivalent of buying in-game money online, a violation of the most basic and only true tenet the provider is essentially bound to.
Real money for one thing and one thing only, server access (the core essence of the gamer/developer relationship, all the other stuff is yeah, a varying degree of customer service be it good or bad and that's life but server crash due to overpopulation of PAYING subscribers? Super ouch, how embarrassing)! Cryptic just bought gold online...
If it were me I'd have brokered an arrangement w/Sun (or whoever...I mean c'mon, it's STAR TREK) and ensured I had extra hardware standing by, even to handle the most generous of subscriber forecasts. Primarily to stipulate that if by some chance any of the gear be deemed unneccesary, they simply return such portions unopened/untouched (for a full or nearly-full credit).
This way, the equipment to seemlessly handle any population (this game is WILDLY popular, clearly) is standing RIGHT there next to them...even after midnight on a post-launch Friday...ready to rock and roll.
Oh well, with a modest IQ (that's being modest btw) and working at IBM, I guess it's in my blood to think of World Class solutions. Maybe Cryptic/Atari should hire me...especially when you toss in successful experience (achieved socially...as much as mechanically, which is somewhat rare) playing the very finest games of all time and hmmmmmm.....PM me with a job offer lol
I have spent only two minutes of game time on the server since opening day. It's hard enough having limited time to even get to play w/o having to wait for the server to appear. $60 just to get a few extras.... i suppose I will have to cancel my subscription and come back in a few months. Hopefully they will get the bugs worked out by then.
lmao nice, the bar for wit has been lowered to default nerd rage posts, the irony of nerds being behind them is not lost on me, good stuff! more please
I am however disappointed on what I was inclined to think was a diverse universe and with so much material to work with it seems Cryptic intentionally took the "easy" route with the game as others are disappointed as well so that only adds to the frustration of the instability issues. Cryptic stated that they underestimated the level of service they would have to face. Though if anyone @ Cryptic was truly a Trek Fan and understood how big the fan base is, not to mention Sci-fi fans in general. They could have had a better scope of the monster they are playing with. That is just my opinion.

Nope. Look up the term "Service Level Agreement". Your SLA for MMO's is "best effort". You don't even have a 24/7 SLA from your ISP, power company, or phone company*. And those are all more essential than an MMO.
In the last half of last year most high pop WoW servers had regular crashes and "additional instances can't be launched" errors.
* The latter two normally at least try for five-nines reliability.

that's why i said "tenet" because it goes deeper than an SLA or EULA or any of that, it approaches the spirtual, the metaphysical even, so fundamental is the concept of server access to mah MMOz!
i hope these server crash times will be added to our ``month`` before they charge the next ``month``. After all we pay for 7/24 on line server and gaming not paying for 6hrs playing and 3 hrs off line...
Server issues... We do not accept that. If you can not support servers at the start of the game how can you support it when population increase? Oh wait, if it goes like this population will really be dense. And... please do not come up with the excuse ``we are developing and testing`` cos that ended when beta was over... If you launch a game you should be ready... If you have all these tech difficulties, you either have a very bad dev team or cryptic+atari made plans over selling the game but not having customers next month...
Wake up crytptic! eu players and american continent players will never play in peace together in same servers at the same time. With gmt when it is prime time we have no lag or tech problems at all, but when the time comes both amercan and eu players on line same time... Pufff server collapse. Be smart! get real servers that can handle both american and eu players together or divide them like blizzard did.

You see, you lost me here.... you can say you pay for 24/7 uptime, but no MMO in existence can give this 24/7 service. NONE. So I stopped reading after that ludicrous comment, because anything after that lost its weight.

I dunno man...Sony games are pretty f'n stable (SWG did reset every single morning @ 7am Eastern time, aye, but Eq2 for example is like RoadRunner cable, the **** just [basically] never ever fails).

Though Eq2 and SWG have been around a while. Not that I in any way support Cryptic.

If you're so good, why are you looking for a job on this forum? I mean with all your social success n all.
I am actually extremely, extremely happy where I am lol. There's no better company in...well...the known galaxy best part is it's true. Night comrades.
[edited] Oh yeah btw that was all posted, clearly, for everyone else's enjoyment (as for the social part that comes from being a BMOC on all the servers I play ~cracks knuckles~ epic TRIBBLE jokes help...the irony there is there isn't an epic TRIBBLE joke). Anyway if people like us worked @ Cryptic there'd be deep, rich content by now (thank God it's Star Trek though, how freakin' cool is that)?!?! I'm tired
