Good god, 3 crashes in one day?!?!

What the TRIBBLE is going on?

For a finished product that people are spending $50 a pop on, this is TOTALLY unacceptable.

This kind of server instability TRIBBLE should have been handled in BETA.

Geez, get it together....

They should just take down the server until the new equipment can be installed. 3 in one day?? That was like 3 in 7 hrs.

You know Cryptic... normally, I've been backing you... but people are now paying good money to play this game. Sure... the first month is "Free" but they still had to pay the $50 for the game.

Get your server issues under control, cause you're really making it difficult for those of us that do shift work to actually play the damn game.

I love posts like this so much. They ordered a LOT more servers during the end of open beta. It takes time to set them up. I don't know how many times Cryptic has to tell morons like you that they are setting them up during this week and weekend.

I bet you have no earthly idea how hard it is to set up a new server. These guys must be putting in 16 hour days to get these servers up and running.

There will be issues as they do this... if you can't handle it, then just log out.. and come back next week

All the Nerdrage is rediculous. Go outside.. read a book.. have a OUNCE of freaking patience.

I don't know of ONE MMO that has EVER.. E-V-E-R had a smooth launch... E--V--E--R!!!!!!!

    /rant off

Lets see, one mmo that had a smooth launch...

No, cannot think of one. That is why I normally wait for a while before subscribing, but then lifetimes came along.

Probably do less damage to goodwill if they just left it down tonight and setup the hardware.

Any company that spends the kind of time, resource and engergy to pump out an MMO, should have had their RD working out potential issues with servers ahead of time. That being said, This isn't Cryptic's first rodeo. Having had CoH/CoV and then Champions, You would think these desk jokies would have come to the concluesion that ONE SERVER will not support a few thousand people and that in the advent that it does begin to demonstrait problems, they already have a set of back up servers fired up and ready to take on the masses. Now... why is that so hard to think of those things. "Boss we got one server think that will do the trick?" "Umm huck huck..yep.. nooooo problem." Server crash.... "Boss servers are down again." "Uhhhh huck huck... uhhhhhhhh" Thats about the some of it in Cryptic's think tank.

I know of some school kids that could come in and help out.. I'm sure they couldn't do any worse and might actually get stuff running smoother than they are at the moment.

Really? Totally unacceptable? Obviously you are new. New to the game, new to mmo's, new to life in general.

Well basically, Cryptic didn't buy enough server space. Not because they didn't know the demand. That's baloney. Ever notice how EVERY MMO launch has server capacity issues? It's because companies don't want to over buy on servers and take a loss on any excess. They'd rather buy conservatively, and buy more afterward as needed to cut costs. To hell with the customers.

Not cryptic's fault per se. This is business as usual for any company in any field.

As a veteran mmo player I LOL at threads like this, especially during launches. Name one mmo launch (with a decent amount of players) that didn't have the same problems.

Star Trek IP = Zillions of fans! Duh!

Did you folks at Cryptic and Atari not realize this? Do you all live in a bubble? Just imagine how many more might join the game if and when you guys come out with a television commercial for STO (I've never seen one)...c'mon WoW has what, 12 million subscribers currently? You could have at least that many for STO although I'm not sure how you're gonna fit them all on one server for the entire planet.

    You should have been prepared....
    Here endeth the lesson.

P.S. Wasting your time giving me infraction points for saying "idiot" in a post is just another example of how far out of whack your priorities are. You could give me 10,000 infraction points if it makes you happy but it won't save your behind when 10,000 more subscriptions go by the wayside.

Then they shouldn't have started live play until this was implemented. It's called LIVE PLAY, not Live Wait-Around-For-Us-To-Install-Stuff-We-Should-Have-Months-Ago.

As I said, every MMO has this problem for the same reason.

Again, I don't really blame them. Infact if I were a Cryptic shareholder I would expect nothing less.

Working in the computer field I know people try to do things half TRIBBLE as possible, Always trying to turn an easy buck, I bet they even use DELL servers (cheap and garbage), Employ as few people as possible (not enough to properly do the job), get the talent for as cheap as possible (less qualified, quality suffers) and only think short term. Because forget the customers they need constant profits for their corporate masters.

And I'm qouteing you because they could have easily over bought servers cause the ones they didn't use could be used on their next MMO which is coming out in less than a year, but since that wouldnt look good on the books because of short term thinking and weird accounting, we suffer.

Exactly. The weird thing is... as I said, I would expect nothing less if I were a shareholder in Cryptic. Hell, I'd probably even sue if they took some big loss on excess servers.

    But I'm a predatory *******, so... yeah.

    .

The server actually ran -better- near the end of Open Beta than it does now after all the ridiculously large number of 100MB/200MB patches. I still don't understand how, but whatever.

As for the people talking about Cryptic servers like they keep them in their building or something... smart companies don't run their servers inhouse anymore for these games. They just rent them from another company much like you do with a ventrilo server. You can just be like "I wantz me a OC-23 connected server with these specs!" and they'll be like "****, that's $18,000 a month" or whatever it costs. They have full electronical access to them, and can adjust things to their liking, but they don't physically see it. At least that's how blizzard does it. I've seen them mention their ISP before too.

The last people I heard of watching over their servers and upholding crazy TRIBBLE security around them was NCsoft of Korea with Lineage II. They had those things sealed up in some kind of biometrically locked vault, but that's cause they gotta' worry about suffering Real-Life PK from those crazy disgruntled Korean players.

Atari wanted to go live now to start bringing in revenue. A game in development doesn't generate any of that. You shouldn't have started playing for at least another six months if you weren't ready for this. That makes your dissatisfaction with the current spate of downtimes your own fault.

Those of us who aren't stupid or MMO ignorant know to expect these downtimes.

I'm not MMO ignorant, TYVM. Any DECENT company doesn't release a product for immediate use (Live Play) if the consumer cannot immediately use it. It generates dissatisfaction not only in the product, but in the retailer itself. That leads to a loss of revenue due to a drop in the customer base.

    Welcome to simple Economics 101.

I guess you not realizing that bit of common sense is YOUR own fault.
