I like STo, but.....

Yes,

I have admitted to it, I actually like STO!

BUT...

It does have some major issues -

1. Content - Once you getup to LT.Comander you start to get missions that have interesting storylines (even the patrol missions are related to storyline ones and tell you stuff), however the first 10-15 levels are not that interesting in comparion, this is where you need to hook people in.

2. Content (ground) - ARGH! We all know what is wrong here, its either move around scanning stuff on a tiny map, move around shooting stuff on a tiny map, or both on a tiny map.

3.Its not an MMORPG! - Sorry, but there is NO sense of community while playing. Yes, you may end up in a team in an "instance", but why bother talking to them or forming a new online partnership to take on the galaxy, when you will probably never see them agan. Instances are TRIBBLE. Yes, I do understand that if there werent instances then every area would be full of players, but make things bigger then, space is meant to be big (the only big thing in the game is DS9 and thats cause its far too big on the outside in comparison to ships). I get more players with me when I play counterstrike, and they talk much more as they dont disappear and get replaced everytime a new map loads. Also, see content above.

4. Skill cap - What on earth where you thinking, putting a skill cap on a game that is so obviously designed to be open. I mean, its so bollixed now that when im in T3 I can take my T3 skill points and put them to T1 skills (as if i could fill everything and there was no cap). Even worse, there is no (except player made) explanations of skills that helps anywhere in game, so I have NO idea how to plan out my final build.

5. Launch issues - Yes, I know some people will say no MMORPG (this isnt an MMORPG, see above) launches without lots of problems. Well, here is the thing, maybe they should learn from others mistakes, maybe they should factor in that Star Trek is a big IP and might have a few people wanting to play. Hell, imagine the publicity an MMORPG (which this isnt, see above) would get if it opened and actually worked really well!

6. Levels - levels are TRIBBLE, especially in an instanced game, especially when you are forced to play against your own level (skills). What could be more fun than just killing a few low level mobs just to get rid of some tension, or helping out a lower level (skills) guy with a hard mission (and showing off), or being a low level (skills) and helping in a high level (skills) mission, of course you cant help the guy cause you have to find him, and the instance he is in, and then be the same level, and if you are a different level, it makes his level much harder than it was before!.

7. Instances - See above. Plus, the game will never, ever have any dynamics built upon the so-called war going on, or player interaction. Never will you see a Klingon fleet gaining territory in fed space, that will probably be in another nstance anyway!.

Dont get me wrong, i like the game. But, I think that is just because it takes "Star Trek : Away Team" and "StarFleet Command" and joins them up together pretty well. Its certainly not meant to be taken too seriously!

Flame away.

All of these things above I give my agreement on.

I also want to have : Star Trek trivia at the bars like you don't know jack, a phaser range, and dabbo for my latinum. I would also like to visit the academy down on earth to teach cadets while learning more about the star fleet universe and real life science. People say this can't be done in a game but Star Trek has won awards for science I believe this game could live up to these expectations.

I would like to see archeology where you actually examine items , stellar cartography where you study stars, and missions that actually involve piloting. I was surprised that examining objects yields so little information. There is no in game fluff except what NPC mindlessly yammer on about.

I am refusing to go online and play till more intelligent content is added .
I have a life time subscription
so I will be freeing up space for people who have to pay monthly .
With all the lag on they will need it.

In my opinion this game is actual Star Fleet Academy or some holodeck simulation and not really the world of Star Trek.

ST games the makers should look at : Star Fleet Academy , Star Trek Judgment rights, 25th anniversary, and Star Fleet Command (this one they OBVIOUSLY have seen)

Yep I have to agree with the OP. My question is at this rate, does anyone who does not have a lifetime sub really expect to be playing this game 6 months down the road? There is just not enough content and there are still MANY rampant glitches.

Many other games have released with twice as much content with the same price. Now dont get me wrong I still like the game, but I highly doubt I am going to renew my sub after the first month.

These are all AMAZING ideas, I agree 100%. I'm enjoying the game, but it would be so much cooler if they added the types of things you mention. Those additions would really set the game apart form the other MMORPG's out there.

Its not just the content they make, but the freedom you have to do stuff.

I mean, you never really had to go see the Sarlacc on Tatooiine in SWG, but it was there if you wanted to, you could walk about for hours, just tripping over things that you saw from the film and where there in game, oh look, whats that, it looks like a crashed escape pod.

Nowhere in STO do you really get that feeling, except when you go back in time and team up with the original series enterprise. Thats the only "WOW, this IS Star Trek" moment I have seen SO FAR, and im lvl25 (which is basically halfway through the game).

I mean, in STO, when you warp into a star system, does it feel like a star system? Why cant you travel to the other planets in the system and beam down? Why cant you beam down to an interesting planet instead of a tiny map?

I mean, they dont need this for every sytem, but for Earth, Vulcan, and Qonos at least!

By the way, I use SWG as a comparison as it is the only other SciFi IP that can compare to Star Trek.
