Why do you defend micro-transactions? Why do you defend constant server crashes?
The thing is, its okay to love the game, its okay to be fine with crashes, its okay to be willing to be overcharged to play a game you want to play.
What I don't get is defending these things. Even if you are willing to be charged a monthly fee, and then have micro-transactions on top of it (dont say its only for cosmetic things or stuff of that nature, you dont know what they will make you pay for next if it is successful) WHY would defend being charged money? This baffles me. I simply do not believe you are an adult that earns your own money if you defend being charged more for anything. Your willing to spend your money? Great! Defending the right of a company to charge more for things after already paying a ridiculous amount of $15 a month (doesnt matter if all MMO's do this- $50 + $15 a month for 1 game is too much)? Absurd!
And the crashes... okay you willing to accept this as part of launch (I dont know why, but it's fine that you are)... but to defend that they happen? Does that mean you dont like the game and enjoy not being able to play it when you want to?
Im not attacking this game, Im saying anyhting about the game- just that people who defend this company for charging more while they are already charging you, and even though you keep getting charged the server crashes.... It's just silly.
money isnt everyting...
it really does not bother me at all, if i did not spend my money on these items then i would waste it on sometjhing equally useless but still fun
fun is more important than money, life is to short to be worried about money.
and more importantly, it means that i can get that extra item that you will never buy thus makng me cooler!
OP - you value things differently. Should we broach the subject of what else you might have spent your entertainment dollars on besides some video game? Did you really have to have that window-shattering multi-thousand dollar sound system just to listen to music that could be heard just as loudly by you using earphones? Do you really have to have all of those cable-channels that you'll never watch but at least you get some sports and movie channels? Huge TV when a small one works just as well? Fancy expensive crotch-rocket race bike that belongs on a track and not the streets?
People spend their money the way they wish to, even as you do.
Because I don't think 15$ is much for a months entertainment, I spend a great deal more than that in an hour down the pub. 15$ for a months entertainment is tremendous value for money, and a tiny monetary amount to pay out.
The microtransactions are a personal choice, if you want it pay for it. If you don't then don't. They are never required, they are always cosmetic. IF that changes in the future, then again, I vote with my wallet and stop playing and paying. Simples.
Crashes happen to every PC on the planet and that includes my PC and every MMO. They are part of life. They do not need to be defended, and I am fine with them. What needs to happen is less nerd rage from geeks who cannot go without a game for a couple of hours when these things do happen, and the same applies to downtime to maintain servers (to help stop them crashing) or to implement patches (to improve the game).
In short, if you don't like it don't pay for it, and if you can't put up with the occasional server crash or downtime stop playing online games and throw your PC out. because that is the only way you will ever be free of them.

It's really this simple -- the more money the game makes, the more development it will get, the longer it will stay running, and the more likely it is that similar games will be developed in the future. If you like a product, you should want its manufacturer to make as much money as possible from it.
Also, your whole general principle is one I reject. At least speaking for myself, I say things because I believe they are *true*. Are you suggesting that I should lie or refrain from speaking the truth just because it benefits me? Suppose you were right, not defending these things would make Cryptic stop doing them and that would somehow be better for me -- do you think that means I should lie, not say the things I believe, and instead say things I don't believe?
Seriously, are your morals so gone that it puzzles you why people would be honest and say what they believe?!
In a lot of cases its not so much that people are defending blindly although I agree this happens.
However in many cases people are just not bothered by these things to the same degree that you may be. For example Microtransactions, some people are against them with every fiber of their being while those like myself I'm not bothered by it, if its worth my money I'll spend it, if not I won't and if it becomes an issue of game breaking items I'll vote with my wallet and quit.
As for server stability, yes I am annoyed by it but I'm not even close to being angry enough to rant and rave or quit or anything like that. Does that make me a fanboy or an apologist... I don't feel that way. There is a limit to my patience but I'm no where near that point yet.
Because they are kids and do not understand nor care about the value of hard earned money. I too love the game and understand the crashes. Been around for many a MMO start-up. But I don't defend nor care for in the least the micro-transactions or poor customer service. And if they aren't kids and don't mind then I am at a loss to understand why anyone wouldn't.
If a month or two later the severs still crash then I would whine and complain...however being that this is launch and being a MMO gamer I am used to games being jacked up or servers crashing during launch...its not a big issue to me. Yes I'd like to be tooling around the galaxy in my new Galaxy class ship but its an inconvienance to me

The MT's are for cosmetic fluff gear that doesn't effect game play and you think that no one should be able to purchase any additional cosmetic fluff gear because you can't or won't? I'm going to have to assume that you never ever buy any name-brand items and only purchase the cheapest generic items that you can find. That's what I'm perceiving your attitude about MT's to be.
As for the "poor customer service", based on my limited lifetime of 47 years, I really do think that Cryptic is doing a heckuva job trying to resolve every user issue that they can possibly get to with the limited staff, funding and time that they have available.
IMHO, folks need to have a little more patience with the game, the servers, the developers and life in general.

Wrong. In fact the opposite is true for me.
As an adult I have people asking me for money everyday. Rent, Tax, Gas, Electricity, Bus Fares, Train Fares, Phone bills... you name it.
So when a company comes along and says "guess what, I want your money too.... but the difference is I've made a product that you'll actually enjoy using and I promise you'll get hours of fun out of it" then thats ok in my books. Refreshing, even.
Even if I paid a subscription every month to Cryptic and paid for a few c-store items too, that is still less money than I would spend on an average 3 hour trip to the movies.
Its pretty rare that I'll buy MT items as Cryptics commitment is that this will be mainly cosmetic things or account services and that anything game-affecting will also be available to earn (not including expansions, I'm sure). W ehave that in writting - and whilst I'm sure it could one day change, it will be a lot harder for them to justify it given the commitments that have made on this point.
If that did ever changed, or if MTs became more significant than they are expected to be, or they start providing players with major advantages over me, then I'm sure I would re-evaluate whether I felt that was a good thing for them to be doing and whether I wanted to participate in a game that is running with that type of model.
I don't "defend" paying money to anyone. But I do accept that a product has to be sold to me and that the company making that product has a right to choose *how* that product is sold to me and for how much. Whilst the product is something I actually enjoy and the policies and principles they have around how they operate MTs are fair and reasonable (in my opinion) then I have no real issues with this.
If people would quit whining, we'd quit defending.
Mostly this.
I don't mind microtransactions most of the time(though I am a bit annoyed by things held back at launch for immediate DLC), and Cryptic isn't the only offender there. Most of the time I weigh my cash vs percieved quality of the MS. If Im enjoying Borderlands multiplayer, the DLC that adds to that multiplayer experience is going to be looked at. If I think CoH has too many custom emotes, Im not going to buy the pack containing more of them.
About the only thing I won't buy on 'principle' for microtranasactions are things like "on the box promised functionality held back" for a cash grab, or DLC from a company that has proven itself incapable of delivering my monies worth for their content.
Most of these things cost as 'much' as my gal and I skipping starbucks one day on the way to work.

To annoy you.
This is probably as near to the truth as you're ever going to get.
People either troll or try to make you look stoopid, there is the
occasional rational poster. Look out for them, they're a rarity.
