Seriously, Cryptic? Server Crashes from 8pm to 11pm, and then server maintenance down from 3am to 5am almost every night...? Don't you know how many copies of the games were sold and you have no idea of how to manage servers to the number of players?
Look, when people are paying up to $300 dollars for game play and $50 a game... you would think there would be more effort put into stability.
If you don't have the servers stable, people will hear by word of mouth, and will consider not playing/buying the game/continuing the service.
Please take some money... and get some servers.. .yes, I know you did this already.. but still, server crashes?

No, seriously...do you think they plan server crashes? I don't think you understand the definition of "unexpected downtime".
The standard boilerplate response. Every other MMO has had crappy start therefore it is accepted.
That is the problem, the public has now accepted mediocrity as the standard and flame anyone who expects excellence.
Fanbois may begin flaming now, your mediocrity awaits.
as far as they dont know how to manage them... I say their down alot. But I dont know why so I can't really say its even their fault...
in usa specially east coast there is REALLY bad weather... some places have record high snow and such...
if servers are any of those places or isp HQ is there then its not their fault at all but mother nature.... alltho yes that is today and tmorow only....
the rest is pretty much normal on all mmorpgs I tested and went into retail on.

rofl I wanna be the first... its not cause all other mmo's had it but because any company in the world dont feel like looesing tons of money on buying gear they dont need...
Its easier and better to do something wrong and beg forgivness then do something right and go bankrupt.
That is a saying that is FAR older then computers so....
I spoke directly to Jack Emmert (Cryptic Co Founder and Chief Creative Officer) and to Phil Dean ( Director of Customer Operations) , and one of the things i discussed with them was server issues. The servers are going off and on right now for 2 reasons:
1. They are constantly asking Atari for more money for server space and overhead. Atari has to give them the money and the "ok",so it is annoying no doubt, but we are in return getting more space on the servers. The servers are also becoming more reliable.
2. They are running like chickens with their heads cut off to fix all the bugs we've had since launch

I have half a grand invested in this game so far lol.

jesus dude... there has been AT LEAST 1 server crash every single day since headstart... there is nothing unexpected about them anymore. the day STO goes without a "unexpected" crash, well.... i dont think that day is anytime soon...
my point.. is YES they SHOULD be planning on the crashes, or at least plan around them. We all know they are gonna crash.. i see it coming hours before they do, the signs are there. problem seems to be Cryptic is kinda like you, stupid, expecting some kinda miracle where the servers do the impossible, work all by themselves without any kind of professional supervision.

Then how about you be the 1st to step up against mediocrity and cancel your subscription. Speak with your wallet!!!!!
In the mean time, I'll bathe in my mediocrity and realize the perfect MMO launch will never happen in my lifetime. Life is too short to wait for Bo Derek to come running down my beach.

It's not a matter of being a "fanboi", it's a matter of knowing Basic Network Functionality 100 (I can't even go as far as giving this a 101 course label). It's not accepted because we expect laziness, it's accepted because it's par for the course with computers... hell, life.
Does your car work 24/7 365 forever? Does your ISP never have a hiccup? Does your body get sick from time to time?
There is only one, true way to complete removal of traces of downtime: quadruple redundacy hosted in multiple locations. If you want that, we'll be paying $60/mos to play because that is one, pricey wench.
So, in short, I will redefine your use of the word "fanboi". Definition - Someone who thinks differently than you. Let me know when you became that important and I will fly my starship to the center of the galaxy so you can ask to borrow it...

No that's not the point.
There's two things that are true about implementing any kind of technology:
1. You don't know if it will work until it's under load.
2. The public doesn't know this or care to.
I'm a Systems Engineer. I've worked at NOC level. Quite frankly this has been a fairly smooth launch for an MMO. Consumer advocacy aside- you, and the general public, have no idea what kind of success this actually is. It is a big success as a launch. Cryptic should be proud.
An no.. I'm not a fanboi. I've just been there at launch for WoW, SWG, EaB, AION, and WHO.
Captain OP, the USS World's Smallest Violin is hailing you. Shall I put it on screen?
The server has been remarkably stable until now. And most of the scheduled downtime has been in early morning US/early afternoon UK to keep it away from peak hours. Seems fine to me.

I do have perspective.
I agree, this has been a really good launch as far as relases go. Can't please the masses no matter what, I suppose? They'll always find something...

You would pay 4-5 figures for a 24/7 Internet connection in the first place.
I saw a guy whining on my ISP's forum how his local DSLAM was down and that he expected 24/7 service. The ISP engineer offered to sell him a business class plan. I lol'd.

Unbelievable: The same discusion is happening in another area of the forums. If you new ahead of time and I'm not saying I didn't complain about the issues iether, but if we all new that these kind of games would happen with severs and such, then why by the game in the first place I wasn't totaly stupid in buying the game not knowing there would be issues but I bought it cause I'm a fan of StarTrek. Well a medioker fan that is.
We need to cool our heads off a bit let them do what is needed to get it working again. And I said it in one forum and someone here just said it. That the weahter in the east coast is having major problems right now. 30 inches of snow is to be falling down along with waht they may already have in other areas. So with the weather going bad and Severs work through fiber-otics and cable were going to have severs down here and in other areas of the U.S but there are issues that are happening with in the game as well so. Just be paitent with Cyptic S, there doing all they can I'm sure to address the issue at hand they didnt figure that there would be so many people would buy the game.:o

EVE takes there servers down EVERY night for 1 hour from 11:00 to 12:00 GMT, so you are just really blowing the expected downtime portion of your argument out of proportion by trying to make it sound so unheard of.
And just how many cars also fail within the first 30 days of use? I'm going to have to utter the words "Factory Recall" to make the point. Spit happens.
The point is "not every car works", same goes for ANYTHING to do with computers, even more so when you realise that there are 10,000s of confgurations out there suddenly interfacing with the game's code and hardware.

it did? entierly like you wanted? cause all new cars I ever had had kinks in them (other then one).. tires had to be tightened to even on a couple...
hell oil would even need to be filled... imagine that...
no not all cars work 100% of the time when new... they need repairs...
sure the repair might be free... but do you get money back for your cars "downtime" hell no... compensate that...
same thing here... repairs dont cost us **** but we arent getting payed for the downtime either.... just like the car you claim works 100% of the time

Funny that you mentioned that because a friend of mine bought a new jeep about, god this had to be maybe 10 years ago, and was driving and on the expressway and the tire came off because the lug nuts were not tightened. Luckily she wasn't killed.

Your car doesn't have tens of thousands of people with tens of thousands of body mass types trying use it at once.
Your car is half as complicated as a single computer system. And costs an order of magnitude more. Figure it out.
