ST:O will be the new SW:G

Star Trek Online will be the new Star Wars Galaxies if Cryptic keep this up.

The CEO's must be very tight to not allow the purchase of appropriate hardware.

Game should not have been released for another 6 months.

I bet not many of you knew that they intended to offer Cardassian and Romulan at the retail release rather than an expansion pack in Q2 did you? They had to give us Klingons at least to satisfy the PVP promise.

And don't get me started on your website - even after the lackluster, dissatisfying and pathetic "full release" ;) by Cryptic, you still can't:

a) Get the forum servers to avoid 500 error
b) Update the main page with information on both Starfleet, Klingon and Ship's Database.

^ Actually SWG had something if I remember correctly - *uptime*.

I do not recall wondering if it was going to crash every fifteen minutes. I could be wrong about that.

I must say I have never experienced a 500 error on the forum. I may not use it enough but I do check out this category regularly.

You do realise that in the message window of the launcher, its says they are adding more server capacity?

I have never seen a post from a dev stating they intended either Cardassian or Romulan at release. They have said for a long while they would like to added them, but no ETA.

How many weeks have they been saying that for again?

    Like six weeks I think?

Try telling your landlord "the check's in the mail" when your rent is six weeks past due. See how far you get with that.

The launch was pretty rocky, not so much for outtages, but for very bad lag and really uneven gameplay. But the sandbox version was really a wonder. So much to do, so much to make. The sheer complexity of the crafting system puts every other to shame even to this day.

We'll never see games like that again. The golden era is dead, the EAing of the industry is complete so get used to **** poor games you barely play for a month. They get their money out of you and you get one forgettable experience after another.

SWG crashed some around launch, but nothing like this as far as I can remember.

LOL, we've had two crashes in a single evening. There's not been any others since US release. SWG was down quite a bit and when it wasn't it was laggy as hell.

I highly doubt it will be the new SWG. For starters the game is so linear that well it's too linear for me to make a proper algebra joke about it.

SWG was full of open ended content, it was anything BUT linear. In Galaxies you got on, and you did what you wanted. In this I've played 3 characters, and it's the same exact missions in a row to level up. Not even variety to it.

So no, it won't be the new SWG unless they make the content open ended.

Completely agree with you on this. SWG had a rocky start, but it was just amazing in its complexity and the universe you were immersed in. Today's MMO's are built on a business model to get as much money as they can over the course of 6 months to a year, then yank funding and start drawing support back. Rush the games out the door being half complete and hope enough people fall for the marketing and the IP to buy it.

SWG, as much as I loved it back in the day did not have any PvE content, other than grinding mobs. Sandbox isn't content, its a means of allowing players to make their own. There is a fundamental difference. What's needed is a balance. SWG didn't added that until years after launch, then it shortly after destroyed itself with the NGE.

Yeah. SWG was great when I played it. There was so much to do. STO has been a fun combat type game, but it feels like a single player game. There is no reason for me to pay beyond when I get bored of this gameplay.

This is exactly how I feel and I'm sure most people will after a month or two. I'm guessing this is why they pushed lifetime memberships on people so they could hedge their bets against a massive population collapse around the 2 to 3 month mark. There's just not near enough to do in this game. I'm already captain 5 and I keep doing the same essentially boring TRIBBLE over and over because there's nothing else to turn to.

Other than sitting in space and jabbering in zone chat.

this game is a rushed piece of ****.

why did they rush? 2 reasons.

1- Release early and get a bonus.

    Why release early?

    2- beat SwTOR

Don't you think its kind of odd that cryptic hasnt even worked on this game for little more than a year? Or how about there were only 2 options for subscriptions - lifetime & 12 month. the 1 month sub option takes an act of god to find that link.

cryptic knows that this game is ****.

they had to releas it before SWtor since they know swtor will demolish STO.

its a greedy corporation that just wants to suck your wallets dry while they have the chance. LIFETIME SUB LIFETIME SUB LIFETIME SUB all over the place. I'm guessing.. I dunno.. 80% of STO players will be quitting within the first 12 months. The other 20%? Stuck with lifetime/12 month subscriptions.

I admit, I am only playing this game while i wait for SWTOR. I dont know if i'll make it

I have 3 weeks left of "free" time

I might just end up back on SWG. That game looks AMAZING next to this shithole game

I played SWG when it launched. There were no actual ships, or player houses/cities, etc... I started on Rori; a moon of Naboo I'd never heard of. I started as an Artisan (I was aiming for Droid Engineer); and if you wanted resources, you had to follow percentages on a sruvey kit so you could sample resources.

I gained my resources five to seven units a time, ten seconds apart, because no one could make, much less afford, harvesters yet. I tried to take a survey mission, and my wait point was halfway across this small moon.

There weren't vehicles then. I had to cross the swamps of Rori on foot.

The survey quests were bugged, so there was nothing there after literally running across the planet.

LAter on, on Tatooine, I managed to make a great two handed staff for a friend to use as a melee weapon.

Yep. A Star Wars game without ships, vehicles, and had people beating each other with sticks.

I played SW:G until the NGE removed the game I'd played for three years; and I still miss it at times.

This game, launch week hassles and all, at least lets you captain a starship on day one. :)

Well, it does when the server is up. But you get the idea. :D

I've been posting the same thing for awhile now. The list goes on.

Where's the crafting system? Oh yeah, not implemented at launch.

Where's the voice overs after the tutorial? Just about non-existent other than the few tidbits of Leonard Nimoy.

Boring, repetitive missions that mean pretty much nothing. Confusing skill set that also means pretty much nothing.

Until WE, the gaming public, stop accepting these half baked, unfinished MMO products this trend will continue. Yes, I pre-ordered and I'm playing right now, but I'm done after the free month. There's nothing to keep me here and I've been down this road before with SWG. I had hopes, but just like SWG they've been dashed.

I wouldn't go quite that far. While the framework of what could be a good game is in some areas, it's woefully lacking in others and it remains to be seen if Cryptic actually plans on following through.

    I don't remember anything in SWG that was "kill 5 patrols...kill 5 patrols...kill 5 patrols...kill 5 patrols...server down...kill 5 patrols...server down...kill 5 patrols....kill 5 patrols....click on 5 things in a small 128x128 map...server down...kill 5 patrols..."

Of course The Old Republic was a factor in the release. They'd be stupid not to try and get out there first. Star Wars has more mainstream appeal and a better track record when it comes to video games. IF that's your game, you're welcome to it. Aside from the downtime, I've got no complaints about STO and am happy to have my 12-month subscription.

I gotta point out the obvious - nobody's forcing you to play this game. The nerd rage is really unnecessary.

STO has gotten off to a crappy start and thing s don't look like they're going to improve any time soon. SWG was miles better at the start and at least held some promise of interesting missions and several different character types. What does STO give you? Minimum content.

Over the past week I've only been able to make it to level 5 due to the constant crashes and unresponsive servers. I've been stuck in the same instance for going on two days.

What little good will I had for STO has quickly disappeared. And why am I bothering to type this now whilst I should be playing? Because I've been dumped from the server again.

    see what i did there?

i've never known an mmo to have this many problems and this little content at launch.

i've never known any large-scale game to have this many problems and this little content

i've never known any gaming company this greedy to release games this unfinished before. "half-assed" isnt even the right term, this is more like "quarter-assed"

I like it so much that I'm going to start selling cars with only 1/4 of the brake pads on them.
