I've lately been experiencing very frequent ground mission crashes. Sometimes its just a CTD, but other times its a rather worrying blue screen of death after the game freezes and the sound goes crazy.
It happens when I get into frantic firefights. Wandering around a planet is pretty okay it seems, doesn't cos problems, but when I get into a fight and there's all sorts of things happening, I crash.
I don't know what's causing it, as I have a PC more than capable of maximum settings:
Intel Core i7 Extreme 965 3.2GHz 8MB, 6 gig DDR3 RAM, Dual SLI 1GB nVidia GeForce GTX 280, SoundBlaster Xfi Titanium, Windows 7 home premium 64bit
Is there any known issue causing this? Any particula graphics setting I can tweak? I had tried reducing all graphics to the bare minimum and it worked fine, no crash, but good god it looked sh*t and I'm not going to play like that.
I have been having the same issues. One thing that has helped my problems are setting the graphics properties to the default settings. The only thing I changed was the resolution, I let the game configure everything else. Even though this isn't the best solution, since I did that I have not had any more problems with the ground missions. I think this problem is pretty well known, so hopefully they will fix it eventually.
So its basically probably a graphical bug that when the game engine is forced to run at higher settings than recommended (which are low TBH) it freaks out with ground missions.
That kinda sucks. I know my system can handle the game (Q6600 @3GHz, 4GB DDR2, HD4870 and Windows 7)
Hope they fix that.
Oh and one weird thing:
I took a Vulcan Scientist as my first choice. Its a male named Vol but when I put the armor on him it gives a womans body. Kinda scary to see a womans body with a mans head that has a 5 o'clock shadow.....
Yeah, the problem is though that I am playing the game at the default settings. In the graphics options, if you have it set to "Basic", the default is the slider bar 3/4 full. The crashes are occuring with the default / recommended settings.
Yes, it happens to me too, since the head start. I had no crash at all in open beta.
The video settings I use are pretty high, but I have a rather strong system: Q9400 processor, HD5770 video card, Windows 7 64bit edition.

Running the game in highest setting, got i7 920 processor, HD4890 Crossfire, Win 7 x64 and 6GB RAM...
Q6600, HD5770, 3GB Ram, Win7 64bit
Other report turning off shadows have stopped thier crashes.
Antoher improvement is to lower world detail to 50%
