Scrap Memory Alpha / Give us Real Crafting

Cryptic, please scrap the entire memory alpha system. It is lame and confusing and not really that useful.

Instead, please take the time to develop a robust crafting system. If you need inspiration for a good crafting system, take a look at Star Wars Galaxies. It has some of the best crafting I've ever seen. Everquest 2 has a pretty decent crafting system also.

The whole scanning for anomalies and finding rare materials thing is fine. That can stay. But what we do with those materials needs to be completely overhauled.

Not only that but I decided to see how far I could get in crafting after I hit 45, It took all of under 2 hours to read up on how the system worked, buy the base weapon from the exchange and turn them in. I capped crafting in its current form and was severely dissapointed in the rewards available for the final tier. No more than 10 weapons in Mk X, 3 of which are rifles, 2 kits, 2 torpedos and some polaron beams/cannons. Thats right, no other energy types as far as weapons go. There was more variety of rare Mk X's in the exchange 4 days after release with a few dozen admiral's than there was in the entire MAX TIER CRAFTING LIST.

I played with the Memory Alpha a bit in Open beta. I realized very quickly that it was a waste of time and effort so in Retail I haven't even bothered.

I could not give a damn about crafting and find the uproar over the current system to be hilarious.

I agree, Memory Alpha isn't crafting, it's just stupid. If they implemented a system like SWG crafting I would be in nirvana. Even a more simpler system would work out. But as it is isn't crafting and is an insult to the very idea of crafting.

In my humble opinion (not as though Cryptic will listen anyhow), I'd like to see a crafting system in which you can MAKE stuff out of the items you find in space. If it's a Radiation drop, then I'd have to break down the radiation sample to its core scientific componants. I'd then use those, or part of those to help make an item. It would take the 'randomized' base componants of lots of samples and artifacts to create something really nice. And for my effort, I should be able to customize what exactly my ship item will do better than the standard issue type prototypes. Example: The item will have stats based upon what you put into the item, and according to a recipe system, which would in turn be better than what the standard issue items would get you at that specific tier.

As far as recipes go, they should come as random rare drops ( when you break down Alien artifacts into their componants from the tougher missions in the exploration sectors), and the standard ones for exploring/helping with more of those exploration missions already in the game, in exchange for Exploration points or something.

A system like this would create a nice little group of us who like to craft, joining together into fleets for the tough areas in order to get the really good crafting recipes. This is an aspect of the game I'm sure many would enjoy who like to be creative, and join others with that mindset.

In addition to these ship items, I'd like to be able to craft ship customizations, weapons, clothing and other cool items that should only come to those who've worked hard for them in the crafting tiers or who are simply rich enough to support our efforts.

Now it is, after they decided to destroy the game to copy other MMO's.

Back at the launch of SWG the crafting system was best of any game ever made. Every item was 100% unique. Just as an example of the complexity... the major crafters on each sever had to buy resources from hundreds of players. Resources might be good one month, great the next, horrible after that. There was an entire game economy that developed not just from making and selling items but from gathering rare resources and trading, plus there was a huge market just for major components.. The original SWG crafting system should be a template every developer works from.
