Someone didn't play Star Wars Galaxies during it's first two weeks of nearly constant downtime. When I say "nearly constant" that's not hyperbole. The game was literally impossible to actually play. It got so bad that I made an AVI that effectively just consisted of a looped animation that replicated the look of the "Connecting to Galaxy" screen. So what you'd do is you'd play that AVI full screen on loop and it was an "SWG Server Emulator". Har har.
I beg to differ. I've played more than a dozen MMOs at launch and never saw any that was even close in downtime. I said week but it's only been 3 days so far and the amount of crashes and "scheduled" downtimes has been like 2-3 every day.
It's OK, I can't claim to know about every MMO, but I have a larger experience than many and never saw anything this bad. Granted, the game is not very buggy, there have been far worse launches in that department. But that's not the accolade I granted, it was about downtime and I stick to it
PS: No, SWG was not a game I ever played, so can't have an opinion. Maybe then my accolade should go to it and STO gets the silver medal hehe
I hereby grant STO its first big accolade: Most downtime in the first week ever in an MMO
The amount of downtime we've been getting is becoming ridiculous.
The only thing still keeping this boat going is the IP and a lot of ST fans who are new to MMOs, otherwise it would be in a coma already.
I bought a lifetime sub for a terminal patient! LOL
So this is your first MMO that you have played at launch. Hope you don't play any others, this way you can always think that STO is the worst launch ever.
The downtime has actually been VERY reduced compared to other MMO's during their launch week.
People are being deluded when saying sentences like the most downtime and trying to moan about the servers down. When you want to play say you want to play but don't say otherwise. I played every retail mmorpg on their release date and none has a stellar launch for network balancing and stuff like that. I don't agree that people vent on public area like forums. Forums are to talk about the game and help others. I wish that American people and some gamers would learn manners and etiquette. You don't slam a clerk at a store next day before it had to close temporarily because you just come back when the store is open again.
I don't think I've ever seen an MMO that didn't come down every morning for the first few weeks after launch. And this is the first crash since launch. What MMOs are you comparing it to?
Obviously the STO that goes down 2-3 times a day.
It seems he counts the times he's disconnected for being idle or something, too.

I have no idea where you picked that from, since I not only didn't say it but I actually stated the exact opposite
World of warcraft when they launched the game was insane on their networks. They had long time queues and servers added left and right because they couldn't handle the load and their network wasn't ready one bit. Took them weeks to get it right. It's the same for all online games with at least some popularity.
They had to completely review their networking and buy brand new POWERED UP computers... eh, planned ahead.. really did...well it didn't work seems so hehe :P?

Guess this is in actuallity your first MMO..has to be or you have a very short memory..
SWG
WoW
CoH
All the above had frequent downtimes in the first few weeks.
Dark Age of Camelot European servers. Even if STO was off line for the next week it would still need to go some to beat GOA and their sub par service. Hell we were still getting launch day hiccups a year down the line.
Sorry to disappoint you, I played WoW from day one and the downtime was not even comparable. It was really smooth in comparison.
Except the whole "I can't loot" for the first three days, and the fact that stability was **** because we were playing on literally *****-rigged Bnet servers...

anyway, I love stirring the pot to amuse myself during server crashes and you guys all seem to love biting bait
That doesn't mean this game hasn't had a lot more downtime than most others. It has.
Nice try but we all know you were genuine but then realized your folly and now are trying to pass it off as a troll. You think I don't know what's going on in your mind now?

I've faced more downtime when WoW first came out.
Archimond 4 teh win.
Playerbase:
1) Forgets the bad things that happened in other MMO histories, resorting to only comparing new MMOs (that was common for Aion, WAR and now STO) to the existing ones (DAoC, WoW are the significant ones) as they exist NOW. After years and years of development, ****ed off players, "This game is going to fail, I'm sure of it" - type post filled forums and ... rather amusing class action lawsuit threats.
I agree, this isn't the worst I've ever played but this isn't Blizzard and they aren't launching their first MMO. Crypic should know better. Hell, its even the same graphics engine they used in Champions. This SHOULD have been a no brainer to launch. But Cryptic did drop the ball big time.
And for everyone that says this is the first crash, the game has been publicly available for 7 days. Its had 3 stable days of play. Head Start was a nightmare but like most patches, they cause nearly as many problems as they solved. Hence the crash today.

Other than that, we've had two maintenace windows to apply patches. Lasting around 5 hours in total.
This is even more true if you don't count head start.

this is light compaired to that pile

And they are adding new stuff every day, so they are also working hard to make things better.
I have no idea where you picked that from, since I not only didn't say it but I actually stated the exact opposite
Pick one:
a) You're a fanboi
b) You have no clue
c) You have a real talent to pick bad MMOs
I would counter argue that one can't be too much of an idiot if they were smart enough to avoid WoW.

Maintenence and patching is excused...you aren't against fixing the game/servers, are you?
Don't be a troll. If you're going to complain, be constructive.

lets see
2 maintneneces that we were told about half a day before they happened, nothing new there
1 crash
wow, thats ALOT for the first week
You have to be kidding, lol. WoW was down so much they gave everyone nearly a month's free subscription time to compensate.
I've faced more downtime when WoW first came out.
