Starship Captain Skill PROBLEM

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I have noticed this problem and they need to fix it

The problem being that (this is just an example)
[ Starship command ] + [Cruiser Captain] = works
[ Starship command ] + [Cruiser Captain] + [Heavy Cruiser Captain] = DOES NOT WORK it doesn't bleed over the bonus to the next tier of ship, or atleast it does not seem to do it for me.

being only a commander i cant speculate about the next tiers
but it would seem that it would be simplier and much more effective to do
Starship command > Cruiser Captain > Cruiser Captain II > Cruiser Captain III > Cruiser Captain IV > Cruiser Captain V

And make the system build up and across itself and carry over

because i can only speculate, but based on what other players are stating it makes sense...
the current system would mean at level 40/50 when i spend points on the specific tier 4 and 5 ships that i want... the tier 2 and 3 points i spent into cruiser captain and heavy cruiser captain would be absolutely worthless...

This wouldn't be a problem if the skill cap accomodated for the possibility of spending points in EVERY SINGLE SQUARE.....
but at the current system why bother spending points (granted yes its nice that it boosts my Hull by 4000 at level 9 Heavy Cruiser captain...
but when i take my tier 3 Escort and throw 1 point into the tier 2... and watch no change... this aint gonna be good... cause thats making people waste points... and respecs.... right....

So i say this to you cryptic
Your facing a two way delima
1 no skill cap breaks the game the very second the next bit of content is released (say you break the rank trees down even further... second people spend all the points you got a person going from level 50 to level 80.... *BROKE*, player loves it... but it be brokered to hell)
or
2 the current problem, You've got talents that stack, you've got talents that dont stack, and then you've got a limited number of skill points that are gonna make people very ****ed cause they are gonna demand one of two things....
Enough Skill points to cover everything under the current cap... or REspecs(which is a bandage cause what appealed to so many people WAS the fact that you could end up getting every single point if u worked hard enough for it...)(this was also the thought of the Dual/Triple specing cause it wouldn't require a respec to just get the points....)

SUGGESTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT GETS OUT OF HAND
So Cryptic I humbley Request you go over the current skills tree options and what not. the fairest method to not just quell the respec calls, and the multi spec calls would be to set the skill cap high enough to cover the current entire skill lists, this would solve the problem of going back on your word of letting us get everything, as well as keep it from breaking the game to banking points to the next expansion/release.

Now i know the 4 year olds are gonna cry I Want my OP though... but it comes down to what works and what makes the game retardedly simple...

I hope you take my suggestion and think about it.

Heavy cruiser is an example of a specialist skill. If you look through your trees, you can see other skills (like Distruptor Weapons) that follow the same point progression. Those are also specialist skills.

Essentially, this is working as intended.

My suggestion on the captain skills is to not bother with the specialist skills until either you are in a ship you want to keep for a long time, OR until Cryptic includes the respeccing system.

EDIT: For the record, I like your captaining skill tree suggestion better than the one that is currently in use.

Whether or not Cryptic thinks this is working as intended or not, it's wrong. Skills shouldn't become obsolete just because you're a higher level. Every other skill available can be beneficial at Admiral, except the ship specialization skills.

Having to either ignore the ship skills or respec upon hitting cap is just unfair.

Agreed. The OP's suggested skill system would be much better.

I have to wonder if Cryptic intends for top rank players to use T3-T5 ships all together, rather than dropping one for the next higher rank. We should look and see if their trade offs make them relatively balanced with one another, or if Cryptic got lost in between that idea and its implementation.

The game was intended with no cap in mind and the current system is still built that way. Cryptic needs to Either

    A. Not have a skill cap and adjust future content accordinally.

    B. Redo the trees like suggested in the OP and give much better information on skill progression and apply the trees so they stack, without us wasting points and having to buy respecs with real money to fix their design flaws.

I'm not sure what you mean by unfair. If we all suffer the same then it is fair. It's not like another player has an advantage over you. I think what you meant to say is that you don't like it.

well what would work would be the system that i suggested of Cruiser/Escort/Science captain I - V then put the Specializations at the end...
