1.) I own a laptop and a desktop. May I load the client on both computers if I won them?
2.) My son is whining and crying that he wants to play STO as well, so I am thinking about opening a second (and possible third?) account. Am I permitted to use my single client on my own computers, and allow my sons to log onto these accounts, using my computers?
I have four accounts on EVE Online and this has never been an issue...
/me is seen climbing on top of a soap box, grabbing a rather large bull horn and shouting at the top of his lungs...
BECAUSE THE EVE ONLINE USER INTERFACE/ CLIENT IS FREE!!!!!!!
/me puts away the big bull horn and steps down off of his soap box.
Considering you can download the STO client, yup. You can have the game on multiple systems. Obviously, though, only one account can be played at a time, and display settings/controls will be stored per-system/per-character.
So, if I understand this correctly, my sons and I would NOT be able to hop in our starships and go cruising around, even though we have separate accounts?
So long as you own TWO distinct copies of the software (with their own "KEY") it should be OK. I believe the client is smart enough to know if more than one copy of a key is being used. Nothing to stop you logging onto different accounts from any machine so long as it has been purchased.

Oops. Misspoke.
An account can only be logged in once. So with you having multiple accounts, you'd be fine.

Yeah, you can have the client on more than one computer. You can have it RUNNING on more than one computer at the same time, WITHOUT THE DISC even, because that's just how much Cryptic cares about people... Even if they are EVE Online cultist-er, fanatics.

You can install the client on as many machines as you like. The only rule is that you can't share accounts.

When you create an account, a unique key is required (from the box you purchased the game in) so you cannot have 2 accounts tied to the same copy. Now, if you purchased two separate games and created 2 accounts each with a different key, you could both play from one installed copy of the game (on 2 machines of course).

Typically for all MMOs, and also applying to STO, you do not actually purchase a license for the software, but the account. The client can be downloaded freely and without any limits, anyone can copy it and give it to anyone without any fear of repercussions. Thus, there is no classical "video game piracy" here.
You can download, install and run the client on as many machines you wish, but each account can be used only once at a time, i.e. two computers cannot be logged into the same account simultaneously. So you need a second for your son, obviously, but it does not matter at all who plays it on which machine.

Wait 2 months and the shops will be full of STO game packs at 9.99 or less
The licence key is bound to the online account, not the client.

You know... it's been such a long time since I started my accounts... I do believe you are right!
That would be sweet.
