This has to be the most unreliable game I have ever played, I mean it. I have been playing for only a few short hours, and have already been disconnected from the server no less than three times. On top of that, my attempts to log back in have seen me disconnected from the login server and the account server about a dozen times between them, and when I do manage to log back in, it takes ages to load my character list (of 1).
On top of that, there is an incredible amount of lag in some of the more action-packed instances (That first ground battle in the tutorial and especially the battle of Station 24 spring to mind here). Comparing this with other MMOs I've played doesn't look favourably at all on STO: WOW has significantly less lag, and I didn't ever experience a disconnect from there. Eve Online, meanwhile, manages to simulate battles between dozens, sometimes even hundreds, of ships with almost no lag, far fewer disconnects, and a much quicker login process. It's a crying shame as, from what I've seen so far, this is a much, much better game than WoW, but these technical issues are really, really annoying.
I realize it's still early days, and things may not always run as smoothly as they should straight away, but Cryptic needs to sort this mess out posthaste (yes, I just said posthaste). And I hope they do because, as I said, underneath it all there is a very promising game.
As the message says when you log in, they recognize that they do not have enough server capacity to meet the current demand and plan to begin bringing more servers online this weekend.
That said, since the official release on the second, I've had no significant issues. But I think I tend to play at times that are much further from peak times.
You never got a DC in wow? nor that much lag? where you playing the same games as everyone else played? as you said its early days so why put up a topic QQing about it already? theyve already said they are putting in new hardware for us..
Since release I haven't had any real major issues, other than when servers are down.
Hugely improved game since Head Start began.
I just run into little things here and there now. Like a Romulan colony populate by Starfleet Officers. Or Hirogen with no face and flying Romulan ships...
Dont worry its beta it'll be fixed by launch.
oh wait....
Dont worry they were caught unaware with the demand and will rush order some more servers so this wont happen a second time.
oh wait....
Likewise...been on all day, no issues until the crash. The disco's you get before it actually fully goes down are simply symptoms of the impending crash.
However, ALL new MMOs are unstable and until now (excluding the head start) this one's been fine. Tonight's has probably something do with it being the EU launch and the pending uplift in capacity they mention at the launcher not being in place.
Then your gaming life is incredibly limited. This is the first 'crash' I've seen since the game "officially launched" (not counting head start).
After all the crashes in beta and head start they pulled off a frikkin miracle of stability. We're talking "Scotty" here.
I wasn't going to go down the "this is an MMO" excuse (cause I don't believe in that logic). However, since you brought it up...WoW was virtually unplayable for the first week and prone to much downtime in the first month. It took Star Wars Galaxies a good....2 and a half years to get stable where all the stuff in my house wasn't vanishing from login to login.
I understand your frustrated, but really....a little more fact and research would be advisable.
It's been a better launch of many mmo's I've played - i've even put off playing others because they've been so horrid in beta.
Yes we get outages, but give it a chance, it's not even been a week for actual launch.
And to be fair, the only time I've seen major downtime has been when everyone hits the server, say about 11pm GMT. So it has to be a capacity problem, which as has been stated is being addressed. Chill.
Never been disconnected outside of server maintenance and only crashed in the ground missions until I set maxfps to 60 to stop the runaway fps and all is good.
Dont worry its beta it'll be fixed by launch.
oh wait....

That would almost be witty if it wasn't completely off-base.
STO is doing great for its first week. If you'd rather complain than appreciate that, you've got issues.
Cryptic have totaly underestmated the following of Star Trek. even if this game gets a metacritic score of 70 people who love the idea of playing in a star trek universe will play it. but cryptic have bitten off more than they can chew. we know you are getting more server capasity but i doubt that will even be enough.
: WOW has significantly less lag, and I didn't ever experience a disconnect from there.
You obviously didn't play WoW when it was released, the first 2 weeks the servers were down more than there were up! Kudos to Cryptic for having a smoother release than MOST mmo's out there.
Sarcasm aside, yes if 3a.m. to 5a.m. happens to be when you can play then yes (truly, honestly) it sucks to be you because that seems to be when they've scheduled maintenance time. And that does suck.
Thank you to Furio and Creoleman for that rapid responce lol you beat me to it.
As for Roger.dailly open your eyes kido and the answer will be there for you. Chill our they are doing all they can the games new its bigger than they excpected thus they need new gear which they ARE getting as you can see thanks to the nice links people have posted.. so stop the QQ and go look at TRIBBLE problem solved
You know as I think about all the online games I have played I dont remember being disconnected much in any of them even whe nI played wow I never got d/c neither in SWG or UO or planetside or any others.
I actually feel like the server's been fairly reliable compared to most other MMO's the first week of release. I have complete confidence that it will only get better, especially after the increased capacity.
It says you are from the UK so i would check the options on the launcher before starting the game. I had my proxy set to Europe and faced disconnects all the time. as soon as I just changed it to none, i have had no problems what so ever.
Give it a try and let me know if it works or its just some weird thing with my machine

First problem ever.
So it has, in fact, been a MUCH better experience than I ever got with WoW.
Plus it is fun, where WoW is just dreadful.
Check your internet connection before assuming it's the game's fault.

And Saturday morning crashes for that matter, lol...

Where's this been said?
It's Friday night during super bowl weekend. You people should be watching the pre-pre-pre game show.

Right on the front page, and when you run the launcher.

Here.
Increased Server Capacity Coming Soon.
EDIT: Hehe, Furio just beat me to it....I'll get you someday, Furio
So...you typically only have time to play from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m..
Sucks to be you.
TRUST ME - there will be plenty of Super Bowl watching this weekend in Indianapolis! GO COLTS!!!
(Although as a Purdue grad I like Drew Brees too - so it won't be too bad if the Saints win.)
BUT THEY WON'T!!!
You obviously didn't play WoW when it was released, the first 2 weeks the servers were down more than there were up! Kudos to Cryptic for having a smoother release than MOST mmo's out there.
No...just sucks to be YOU.
(sorry it was right there.)
